“So, he can’t move at all?” Oriana asks curiously.
“Yup, completely immovable,” Dian says disinterestedly.
The pair stands in the middle of a hospital room with Kenji laying in the bed with his eyes closed. Oriana stares at him confused with Dian searching through various channels on the TV. As the various machines tick, Dian occasionally glances at Kenji but keeps her eyes squarely on the TV screen.
“So how often does this happen?”
“Whenever Repi exhausts himself Kenji doubles over as well. As I explained their Bond is odder than any other Kaiju and Brawler.”
Oriana pokes Kenji. “This is unbelievable. Completely unprecedented.” She lifts up. “This would mean a synchro coefficient higher than any other we’ve ever come across.”
“Yup.”
“Who performed it?”
“What?”
“The Bonding Ceremony? We have to find the one who performed the ritual, they should have some insight into how this happened and if they can replicate it.”
“Good luck with that,” Dian says turning off the TV. “There’s nothing good on, anyway.”
“What do you mean?”
“Kenji has no memories of how the Bond happened. All he remembers is meeting Repi somewhere in the mountains in Japan and then he beelined it to our warehouse.”
“JAPAN!?”
“Yup, he and Repi traveled all the way from Japan to America,” Dian says.
Oriana stares at Kenji trying to wrap her head around the situation. “This kid is insane; how did he manage to do that?”
Dian stands and points at Oriana. “At this rate, we’re going to have a ton of questions and I hate explaining things so since we’re probably going to working together for a while let me tell you everything I know.”
“If you would Ms. Saegusa.”
“Call me Dian,” Dian says. “Anyway, let’s start at the beginning of this mess or at least the beginning of how I understand it.”
Months ago, in the depths of the snow-covered mountains with the mist around him, Kenji wanders around with no idea where he is or how he got there. He just wanders deeper and deeper into the mountains with staring at the surroundings as a figure appears in the mists. Kenji stares in awe unable to turn away as odd lights appear around the figure and a burst of lightning extends into the air.
“Awesome!” Kenji yells out.
The figure moves and the mist dissipates with their movements. A loud rumbling comes as a giant lizard-like Kaiju stares down Kenji as he stares up at it.
“A Kaiju, to think I’d find a wild one.” He says to himself as he stares up at it.
The large Kaiju continues to stare at Kenji as Kenji steps towards it. It lets out a loud bark sending a shock wave across the area knocking him back. However, Kenji withstands the attack and moves forward towards it.
“Can you understand me? If you can, then let me say I mean you no harm. I just want to get a better look at you.” He says cautiously.
The Kaiju turns away swinging its tails as they twirl into one limb and it rushes ahead ignoring Kenji. However, he rushes ahead chasing after the enormous creature as fast as his legs carry him through the snow.
“Come on slow down, there’s nothing wrong with…”
A jolt of electricity hits Kenji and causes him to stop. “Do you really hate humans that much?”
The Kaiju turns around and stares at him unmoving and then turns around marching off into the snow.
“Well, I’ll show you. Not all humans are bad no matter what you’ve been through, I promise one day we’ll be friends!” Kenji yells as it fades away from view.
Over the next few days, Kenji wanders the mountains chasing after the mysterious Kaiju and somehow finding it every time. Over time the creature saw him less of a threat and more of an annoyance letting him closer and closer as it ignored him. And Kenji for his art loved it, growing closer and closer to the Kaiju as he tried to form some form of a friendship.
However, over their time together a mysterious phenomenon occurred, the Kaiju seemed to like Kenji. It would seem to look forward to his visits and even lead him to its lair a cave on the mountainside. Kenji’s visits felt natural and both him and it felt an odd closeness to one another not felt anywhere else.
“How about Lizargedon?” Kenji asks looking up at the Kaiju in its cave. “Come on I can’t keep yelling Kaiju at you, you need a name, all the cool Kaiju have names!”
Kenji reaches into a nearby bag and pulls out a book. “Check this out.” He opens it showing off many pictures of Kaiju fighting one another. “You see this, this is Kaiju Brawling.”
The Kaiju turns away disinterestedly.
“Listen!” Kenji yells trying to get its attention. “The world loves Kaiju, you don’t have to hold yourself up in this cave or up in these mountains. If we find the right people, they can give you a proper home a place where you can truly belong.”
The Kaiju turns away and ignores Kenji not wanting to pay attention to him.
“Fine then, I’ll come back later.” Kenji stands and walks out of the cavern. “I’ll see you later and then the two of us will come up with your name!”
Kenji walks away, and the Kaiju turns towards him showing some minor sign of curiosity. As it stares the winds and snow outside grows harsher and stronger.
In the midst of the growing snowstorm, Kenji wanders about unable to get his bearings as he looks around. He wanders about still searching for anything familiar as his body grows colder and the world around him goes white. He falls into the snow unable to move as he stares off into the distance.
“Well, this sucks. Maybe I should’ve brought a coat.” Kenji whispers to himself as his thoughts wander. “I still never came up with a name, oh well, hopefully, he won’t stay up here by himself forever.”
As his eyes close a figure appears over him and then everything goes black.
Kenji’s eyes open and he jolts up awake with an odd warmth covering his body. Above him, the roof of the cavern blocks the sky as a raging nearby fire warms his body. He looks around and sees the Kaiju laying near the fire it’s body barely moving as it pants.
“Hey, are you okay?” Kenji asks rushing to its side. “Did you come to get me?”
The Kaiju slowly turns towards him and lowers its head. “Wait what? What’s this feeling?”
After the storm passes Kenji and the Kaiju stand at the front of the cave staring out into the distance. The now clear sky beautifully showing off the starry night’s sky as Kenji stares up at it in amazement.
“What do you think of it Repigigas?” Kenji asks.
Repigigas stares down at him. “Do you like it? I got it from an old word for lizard and another world for big. I think it works for you since you’re a big lizard and what not. How about I call you Repi for short?”
Repi turns to face the distance and Kenji joins him as they stare out into the horizon.
“Alright, Repi. Let’s get out there.” Kenji says happily. “Once we’re out there we’ll find our footing and start or journey, after all, we have to become the Kaiju King.”
Repi grins happily as it lets out a quick bark and then a loud excitable roar.
“Let’s do this!” Kenji yells. “We’re going to show everyone just what we can do!”
In the present Dian finishes her tale and stares down at Kenji as Oriana stares at her in amazement.
“So that’s all you know?” Oriana asks curiously.
“Yeah, that’s all Kenji will tell us. He’s not lying, so that’s the truth as much as concerns him.” Dian says disinterestedly. “As far as I’m concerned it’s the truth for me as well.”
“Well as long as your both okay with it,” Oriana says nervously. “I’ll head out, for now, you stay by his side in case he wakes up.”
Dian looks up. “I will, at least for now. I have to make sure his brain isn’t fried after all.”
Oriana leaves the room and pulls out her phone. “I have to report this, this is all too strange.” She whispers to herself.
