Kenji sits in his hospital room staring out of a window as Dian hands him a piece of fruit. Kenji ignores her and continues staring out of the window as she pulls her hand away. She sighs loudly and grabs his head turning it slowly.
“Kenji, are you in there!?” She yells out staring into his eyes.
Kenji for his part continues simply staring unable to do anything but look into the distance. Dian releases his head, and he turns to face the window once again.
“Great his brain is fried. Hopefully, the stupid thing can start working again soon, we have no idea when our next match will be.” She sighs and sits down staring off into the distance. “Come on, Dad come back already, I don’t know how to handle this by myself.” She says annoyed.
Elsewhere Toshiro sits in a bar drinking from a mug with a large grin on his face. By his side, a woman with long blond hair in a dark suit sighs as she turns away from Toshiro. As he finished his drink, he raises his hand and calls the bartender with a large grin on his face.
“Another please good sir!” Toshiro yells out excitedly.
“Of course, but don’t you think you’ve had enough already?” The bartender, a large but meek looking man asks.
“Trust me, sir, this man has a handful of amazing talents, and one of those is his sheer ability to drink copious amounts of alcohol with no effects.”
“Okay, if you say so.” He says walking away taking on of Toshiro’s glasses with him. “So, what do you want to talk about?”
“Come on Harry, can’t we talk to each other for a while?”
“No.”
“Well since we both lost her, I figured we could use a drink to relax a bit,” Toshiro says happily.
Harry rolls her eyes. “Listen, we can’t waste time to sitting around here. You have Diana and your team to worry about, and I have to help organize the battles.”
“It’s about Kenji.”
“The boy you took in?”
“Yes,” Toshiro says. “I would like all of you to leave this alone.”
“What?”
“I know earplugs is an Uncategorized, and you're bound to leap into investigation mode, but I want you guys to step away.”
Harry sighs loudly. “We can’t. A Kaiju with unknown abilities is dangerous, extremely dangerous, and you know this so why….”
“Can’t you just trust the instincts of an old Brawler?” Toshiro asks.
“No. This is our duty, we have no choice but to do this to understand everything about any Kaiju we discover.” She says coldly. “And don’t you remember that our last time listening to your instincts lead to a tragedy.”
Toshiro smirks. “Yeah sorry about that.”
“You say that, but I doubt you actually are.” She says disinterestedly. “Anyway, I’m curious as to why you’ve taken him in. You’re not exactly hurting for money, even if you act like you are.”
“Well just the sway of fate, nothing but a simple whim,” Toshiro says.
She sighs and stands. “If that’s all you have to say then I’ll be leaving. I’ll pay for what I’ve consumed, but nothing more.”
“Listen I just want you to calm down on the kid, he’s not a bad guy. I just want you to remember that.” Toshiro says putting his drink down. “I’ve always been a good judge of character after all.”
She sighs. “Alright, whatever. You know something don’t you?”
“Maybe I do, maybe I don’t.” He says jokingly. “So let’s all have ourselves a good time because this year's battles seem like they could be interesting.”
“Whatever you’ll tell me what’s going on eventually, you always do.” She says walking away.
Toshiro sips his drink happily. “You’ve done good Kenji, the world and beyond now all have their eyes on you.”
Dian sits in the hospital room pocking Kenji’s face repeatedly out of boredom. As she goes in for another poke Kenji’s eyes open and he turns towards her as she pokes him in the nose. Kenji glares at her and she smirks staring into his face.
“Were you that bored?” Kenji asks.
“Yes, but your awake now so now we don’t have to worry about it.” She says as she turns away and looks towards the door. “So, shall we get out of here?”
Kenji sits up and gets out of the bed. “Of course!” Kenji yells out excitedly. “I’d love to see Repi again, it feels like forever.”
“Of course, since your up, Repi should be up to so the three of us can get to work right away readying for the next foe.” She says opening the door. “And with that let’s leave.”
“Wait, a minute!” Kenji yells out.
Dian stands outside of the door with Kenji walking out changing out of a hospital gown into his jumpsuit. “You done?” She asks.
“Yup let’s go, but what should we do about the nurse?” Kenji asks. “Won’t she be worried if we just randomly leave?”
Dian holds out a pen. “I wrote a note, Oriana will take care of explaining things for us.”
“Okay then, let’s go!” Kenji says happily.
Kenji and Dian rush out of the hospital into the cold night, with Kenji running with extra energy outpacing Diana as she strives to keep up. As the two run a figure stares down from above keeping their eyes on the two as a bus pulls out to the hospital.
“The subject has left the hospital, examinations were inconclusive, we need to examine the Kaiju for definite results.” They say into a phone calmly.
Meanwhile somewhere in the streets of New York Toshiro wanders about with a smirk on his face. He pulls out a map and circles a spot with a smirk on his face as she stands next to a large wall.
“Well now let’s do a little of research.” He leaps up over the wall landing on the other side almost falling over to the ground. “As they say to know your enemy is to know yourself.” He says regaining his composure.
