Oriana stands outside of the association building pacing around nervously as she tries to focus and calm herself. Her thoughts of Kenji and Repi charging into battle inspires her somewhat as she takes a deep breath and stares ahead. She steps ahead and walks into the building with a stern expression on her face.
Let’s do this! She thinks to herself seriously.
She rushes in towards the front desk where the receptionist waits. “Welcome Agent Sumre, the board is ready to see you.”
“The board!?” She yells out nearly falling back. “But I thought that…”
“Reports about uncategorized Kaiju are to be handled directly by the board, that’s basic knowledge.” She says dryly.
Oriana lowers her head. “Sorry, I just….”
“Well, aren’t you going?”
“Of course!” She yells out seriously. “Tell them I’ll be right up.”
She moves ahead, and the receptionist looks back staring at her. “Good luck to you, hopefully, you won’t pass out this time.”
Oriana moves further into the building as she enters an elevator confidently and presses the button for the top floor. As the door closes, she breathes deeply trying to maintain her cool only for the facade to drop instantly as the elevator moves. She slowly panics as it raises floor after floor as her internal panic rapidly becomes unbearable as she struggles to contain herself.
What do I do? I talked all big and I’ve never even met the board before, this is impossible! What am I going to do?
“First of all, calm down.” A voice says in front of her.
She opens her eyes and sees and an older woman with short blond hair stands in front of her. “Hello?”
“Second, you're going to think on the details of your report and give it to the board, anything less is foolishness.” The woman says.
Oriana nods. “Yes Maim, but um, who are you?”
“I’m an Agent, just like yourself. Just a little higher up than you are now.”
Oriana chases after her down the halls. “Do you report to the board directly?”
“Yes, my activities are a bit more important than just monitoring already registered Kaiju.”
“Amazing!” Oriana yells out. “That’s so cool Ms. Senior.”
“Ms. Senior?”
“Um well, you’re my senior as an agent, and you already report directly to the board so your way higher up on the food chain than me so….”
She smirks. “Well I do appreciate the admiration, but if you want my name it’s Harry, call me that to start.”
“Yes, Maim, or Ms. Harry.”
“And we’re here.” She says happily.
Oriana looks around and notices a large door in front of them as she pants. “Alright, I can do this.”
“And don’t pass out this time.”
“Why is everyone saying that?” Oriana asks as she faces the doors.
Harry taps on the doors and they open wide with Oriana entering the room. Inside seven large monitors sit on desks lining the far end of the room. As she enters each of the monitors turn on with figures of six people appearing on each of the screens.
“Hello there Ms. Sumre.” One figure says. “It would appear that you are dealing with a rather interesting team and an uncategorized Kaiju.” A woman’s voice says over the monitor.
Oriana snaps into attention and stares ahead. “Yes Maim, I have come into contact with Team Saurian, they are quite interesting.”
“Ah!” A husky male voice yells out. “I knew I had heard of you before, you’re the Agent who passed out on her first day of field training.”
A forgotten memory goes through Oriana’s mind as she thinks back to her first day. Running for hours on end with the other trainees as they test stamina, her refusal to give up leading to her collapsing onto the ground. A flash of embarrassment comes to her, and she bows her head toward the monitors.
“Please don’t mention that!” She yells out.
“Calm down, you’re not at fault for that. The Instructor should’ve realized you were at your limits and let ordered you to rest.” A calm-voiced man says. “Your will to keep pushing past your limits is impressive albeit foolhardy.”
Oriana blushes and salutes. “Thank you… I think.”
“Either way we’ve called you here for something important.” Harry says walking into the room glancing at Oriana.
“Wait, what about my report?” Oriana says.
“Did you really think we’d all gather together for a simple report!? I myself only read a report after about a week after it’s been given as a matter of choice.” The husky-voiced male says seriously.
“Really now is that pertinent information?” The woman asks.
“Um, so if I’m not here to give a report, then why am I here?” Oriana asks nervously.
“Toshiro Saegusa,” Harry says as she turns her head away. “That man is an odd fixture, his retirement shook the world of Brawling and him suddenly reappearing has everyone slightly on edge.”
“Toshiro? I know he was a Brawler previously, and he was a good one, but he doesn’t even have a Kaiju anymore.”
“That’s not the point, it’s that Kenji kid. We’ve looked into his past and we can’t find a single thing, and that Kaiju also has no records about it at all. We can’t even trace a region of origin outside of somewhere in Japan.” The calm man says.
“And Toshiro getting himself involved only makes things more suspicious,” Harry says. “He’s a shrewd man, be careful in interacting with him.”
Oriana nods. “Yes, Ms. Harry! But what about Kenji, shouldn’t he and Repigigas take more priority?”
“We have a secondary team looking into the two of them, and we already have a ton of information on Dian Saegusa, it’s her daddy and the new kid we’re wary of.” The husky voice man says.
“Okay, so you want me to take a particular look at Toshiro and keep an eye out for Kenji,” Oriana says. “But can I at least ask why?”
“Sorry, but a ton of that is confidential. We can’t say anything more than you need to know.” Harry says seriously. “So, do you understand?”
Oriana salutes. “Yes Maim!” She yells out seriously.
“Good dismissed,” Harry says with a grin on her face.
Oriana leaves the room and all the screens turn black as the figures disappear with Harry still remaining in the room. “Good, now Toshiro, just what are you planning out there?”
Oriana walks down the hallway with a large grin on her face as she moves toward the elevator. She sees her reflection in the metal and calms herself trying her hardest to be serious as she’s unable to repress her smile. She happily enters the elevator as it opens and begins its descent down to the bottom floor.
All right, I’ll prove myself. I’ll prove to them that I can do this, that I can be a successful Agent above all others. Oriana thinks to herself with her grin growing wider. “I’ll prove myself, and then I’ll prove to everyone just how strong I am.”
The elevator opens, and she walks into the lobby with the receptionist looking at her curiously. “So how did it go?”
“It went well, and now I’m ready to show everyone what I can do!” She shouts.
“Well, hopefully, you don’t pass out again.”
Oriana blushes. “Come on, I’m trying here. And how do you know about that?”
“I’m pretty sure everyone knows. It’s been a good talking point about the newest batch of recruits.”
“Well, I promise to leave that part of me behind!” She yells out seriously.
