Kenji and Repi sit inside of the hanger staring up at the ceiling as Kenji tosses balls into the air. Repi follows the balls with its eyes blinking every so often as it does. Kenji smirks as he throws one ball into the air towards the far end of the room. Before it can hit the ground Repi shoots out a small shot of lightning racing across the room hitting the ball and frying it. It’s charred remains falling on the floor as it turns to ash.
“Good job, now let’s try it with a few more!” Kenji says excitedly holding up several more balls.
“What are you doing?” Dian asks walking into the warehouse.
Kenji stands up dropping the balls. “Oh, Dian. Last night I was thinking of ways to improve Repi’s accuracy, so I came up with this training exercise.”
“Okay, that I understand. But where did you get the balls?”
“I ran to a store early this morning and bought a few.”
“With what money?” She asks.
Kenji smirks and pulls out a card. “You left this behind so…”
She snatches the card from his hand and glares. “How much.”
“Fifteen dollars.” He says nervously.
She sighs. “I’ll write it off as a training expense.” She turns towards Repigigas. “Any results?”
“Somewhat, we manage to come up with a smaller faster attack, but it doesn’t have much power behind it, unfortunately,” Kenji says.
“Well, I’m sure it can be effective in annoying a foe in the middle of a battle,” Dian says thinking on the subject. “But anyway, we have to figure out how we’re going to deal with the next opponent when we don’t even know who we’ll be fighting.”
“Maybe we can ask Oriana for any assistance?”
“I doubt it, the Agents can only divulge so much information when dealing with the various teams. Anything we learn will be an advantage over an opponent, so they have to be careful and decisive with what they share.” Dian says.
“Well, that’s not necessarily true,” Oriana says walking into the warehouse. “Really, it’s just up to the agent, for most of us, we want our team to win so we’ll help in any way we can.”
The pair turns towards Oriana as she walks up to the two. “Good morning everyone.”
“Um good morning,” Dian says nervously. “Can you repeat that?”
“I said I can share information about your opponents with you. Especially considering unless something is expressly being held secret then after a match it would be public knowledge, anyway.”
Kenji thinks on the subject. “She’s right. If it’s about the battles, they’re recorded and we can watch them at any time.”
Dian lowers her head. “Damn it, and I here I was thinking of some clever plan to trick you.”
“Um, how do you see me?” Oriana asks. “But I’m sorry to say I don’t know who’s competing in the Registration Bout?”
“Is there anywhere this information is kept?” Dian asks.
“It should be kept in association headquarters, so all we need to do is go there and snatch them up,” Kenji says excitedly.
Oriana lowers her head. “Well, I’ve forgotten.”
“What?” Dian asks walking up to her. “What did you forget?”
“I forgot the password for my office where the files would be. They just recently changed my office and if it’s anywhere it’s there, but unfortunately, they haven’t given me a password to access those floors only a temporary access code.”
“And you forgot it?” Kenji asks.
“Yes.”
Dian rolls her eyes. “Well, Kenji get ready for anything we’ll be rolling in blind as we planned earlier.”
“I’m so sorry!” Oriana yells out.
“Well it’s a good thing, I’m good at picking locks.” Toshiro walks in with a wide grin on his face as he walks up to Dian handing her a flash drive.
“Dad, where were you?” Dian asks.
“I had a chat with an old friend, and I went to get some information we might need.” He says happily.
Kenji rushes up to him. “You broke into an association office Boss!?” Kenji yells out.
“Kind of, it was more sneaking around and less awesome than you think. I was even thrown out of the building at the very end of it all.” Toshiro says with a wide grin.
Repi moves over the group and barks happily looking down on the group. Toshiro looks up at it and smiles as he looks down at Kenji and Dian.
“Looks like you three held it down really well while I was gone. That was very impressive, and that win was pretty well done too.” He says with a soft grin on his face.
Dian turns her head away. “Of course, Dad, you should have more faith in your team. After all, you helped us reach this point so…”
“Um, you really broke into my office?” Oriana asks.
“Well not exactly your office, but it was someone’s.” He says. “Now Dian, let’s crack open those files and check out our competition.”
“Fine,” Dian says taking the drive.
She moves to a desk and pulls her laptop out of a bag plugging in the drive after she turns it on. After a moment a file pops onto the screen and with a click, it opens up revealing a bevy of different files.
“What did you grab!?” Oriana yells out nervously.
“Just stuff I found interesting, it should be titled ‘Newbie Kaiju’, let’s try cracking that one open.” He says happily.
With a quick search, the file is found and opened with ten images of ten separate Kaiju.
“There’s Repi!” Kenji yells out tapping against the screen.
“Don’t touch the screen!” Dian yells out to Kenji before turning back to the screen. “But yeah, this must be the right file. I mean there’s also the bear from earlier we fought.”
Toshiro smiles. “Alright, let’s dig for clues little ones.”
“I guess since we don’t know who we’ll be fighting let’s go over all the opponents,” Dian says.
She clocks on a file and an image appears. A large bug-like Kaiju with massive rapidly flapping wings appears on screen with Kenji staring at it.
“Wow, a flyer. And it’s a giant bug!” Kenji yells out.
“It’s called Warble,” Dian says. “It’s a massive fly who’s claim to fame is its quick speed. It can flap its wings rapidly to create sonic attacks as well, it seems like it doesn’t do well in close range though.”
“But Repi is more of a long-range fighter,” Kenji says. “We need to come up with a plan to counter that.”
“Agreed, of course, the potential for flying enemies was always a possibility so I have a few of my own countermeasures,” Dian says.
Oriana watches the pair as they talk and a large smile overcomes her face as she’s unable to contain her excitement. Her smile widens as Toshiro looks at her excitable as he moves closer to her side.
“Excited?” He asks.
“What?”
“I can tell, this is what you wanted? This rush of strategizing before an important battle, any warrior would feel it.”
Oriana shakes her head nervously. “No that’s not it. I’m not excited, I’m just happy that your all taking this so seriously.”
“Of course, we are, even Repi is fired up.”
She turns to see Repigigas staring on them from above as it tries to stare at the laptop. It barks and Kenji turns up to it with a large excitable smile on his face.
“Hey Dian, Repi has a plan.”
“Well, he better give it to me, because we’ll need all the help we can get for these upcoming battles,” Dian says.
Oriana watches and steps forward looking down on Dian. “Um, I have a few ideas.”
“About the battle?” Kenji asks.
“Yes, for flying enemies they have trouble seeing at night or dark places with lots of shadows. So, if you hide in the shadows of buildings then there’s a chance you can sneak up on them.” Oriana says.
Dian smiles and Kenji rushes up to her excitedly.
“I agree that sounds like a nice concept,” Dian says. “I have to thank you, you’ve given me a far better idea.”
“Yeah, you’re a member of this team to Oriana, you have to start putting in your opinions,” Kenji says.
Oriana nods and looks onto the files with a grin on her face.
Toshiro looks back staring up at Repi with a calm look. “Well, then we’re making our own steps. Now let’s cross that proverbial finish line.”
