III. Blade Vs. Speed
"You win this round, blue boy," Cutter said, the battle finished, his reactor about to give.
"It doesn't have to end this way, Cutter," Blue said, looking down on his defeated foe. "You can help me save Dr. Coyote."
"Save?" Cutter laughed. "Weren't you at the Expo, I'm last years model, kid. I can't help anyone."
Blue put his hand on Cutter's shoulder. "I believe in you."
Cutter smiled and in a moment he felt the power flow away from him and Blue's namesake armor began to turn red and black of his jacket.
Cutter laughed. "I see it now, you're the future, I just don't make the cut."
The would-be detective robot continued to run from the gang of advanced humans with intent to kill that he wasn't allowed to fight.
"I need to return to Shin," Giggles," the Nickle-Do Model 27 robot dog that put him in his most recent no-win situation.
"We're coming for you, robot," Quick, the leader of the Red Gang, a street gang that wants to be robots, but goes around beating up robots, confusing, but that's teenagers. "We will show you our superiority.
When Cutter was built he was labeled the fastest robot in the world, but that was a long time ago. Quick's pals were falling behind, but their leader lived up to his nickname and he was gaining.
"I need to return to Shin," Giggles repeated.
"I heard you the first time," Cutter said, imagining he would be panting in a human body. "I'm taking you to him."
Giggles' ears perked up. "You are?"
"Yeah!"
Giggles looked behind them. "Those mean men are still chasing us."
"I know."
"Can you go faster?" Giggles asked.
"Not that I know of."
Giggles looked like he was pondering a moment. "I can, maybe you should ride on my back.
"What?" Cutter turned and he saw the shuttle in sight, but Quick was right behind them. "I appreciate the offer, but--
Before Cutter could finish Giggles leaped out of his arms and was no longer a dog but a skateboard.
"Oh, yeah, you're a Rush model," Cutter said then jumped on.
They road on, surging toward the shuttle, almost there when a hand grabbed Cutter's jacket.
"To slow," Quick yelled and the former cutting robot was pulled to the ground. Quick, in short bursts of impossible speed, kicked Cutter over and over again with his strength enhanced feet.
Giggles returned to dog form and turned. "Stop! Violence is wrong!"
"Quiet dog, your next," Quick said and Giggles began to cower as the shuttle drove off. Robot abuse did not affect the travel schedule.
The Red Gang must've gotten lost in the chase, but Quick made up for it with extra kicks. Cutter felt like he was having the wind knocked out of him, which was weird because he didn't have lungs.
"Stop kicking the general!" A rickety voice yelled and Quick turned to see a weak old sniper bot pointing what used to be his rifle at him.
Quick ran right toward him and knocked the robot to the ground. "Foolish old robot, you can't shoot me I'm..."
Then there was a look on his face that gave the young hoodlum pause. "Did he say, General?"
Behind him, Cutter stood and drew a pair of his cut blades. "Yeah, that's me."
"But you guys were destroyed," Quick said. "You blew up in the castle with the hero."
"Yeah," Cutter said, but tapped his head. "Memory chips are made of some pretty durable stuff though."
A terrified look of recognition came across Quick's face. "You're, I mean you are..."
"Blade Man, the robot that can cut through anything, first of the eight general of the robot army, my friends call me Cutter," The robot said, giving his most intimidating glare.
"Bad robot, bad robot," Giggles began to yell, a flashing red alarm going off, but no one was coming.
Quick looked upon the former general and Cutter didn't know if it was instinct, fear, or stupidity, but he ran away from twice defeated robot that couldn't harm a human.
As soon as Quick was out of sight Cutter gave a huge sigh of relief and Giggles turned off his alarm, confused.
"You aren't bad robot?"Giggles asked.
"Why didn't you kill that human," The sniper bot asked. "Like in the war."
"Yeah," Giggles agreed. "You killed many creators."
"Common misunderstanding and anti-robot propaganda," Cutter said. "There were no human deaths in the war, except Coyote, and Blue killed him. Nobody knows why."
"What?" The sniper bot said. "I blasted tons of enemies."
"All robots," Cutter picked up the terrified dog. "I gotta go. Thanks for the save."
"But the revolution?"
Cutter shrugged. "Never happened."
Cutter returned the robot dog to Shin. To the chagrin of his father that got rid of him, so no rich people money, but the kid was happy. Doyle laughed as Cutter described the case to him and he shut down for the night, completely relaxed. Untill he got a voice message alert.
"Cutter, it's Rose," The message said. "Oil Can's dead."
Cutter sighed. Things never got easier.
