In the quiet, there I sat
Typing on my keyboard
Eating snacks (and feeling fat)
I found myself quite bored
“It’s far too quiet” I said in my mind
“It’s really quite unnatural”
And so a plan I then designed
To fix the contranatural
I banged on pots, tap danced on tile, and sang a loud show tune
Why I even beatboxed! (Quite terribly though I must confess)
But though I tried to fix it all, I soon became the pantaloon
No matter how much noise I made, I made no bit of progress
Instead my efforts were mocked and scorned
All silent I must add
My dignity, that day was mourned
Noise, it seemed, was just a passing fad
“Will no one make a sound!” I cried
Face as red as a cherry
“Shut up!” A teacher soon did chide
“We’re inside a library!”
