It was pretty silent in the house. I was sitting on my couch and reading like I usually do when I have nothing to do. I got a phone call that night. I put down my book and picked up the phone.
" Hello?" I could only hear heavy breathing, quick, but soft. "Hello?" I suddenly got a voice. A familiar voice at that.
"M-mason..." Wilson seemed scared, really scared as if something was after him. "Someone's in the house..." I froze in the spot where I was standing.
"Ok, try to slip out the window or something."
"I-I can't do that! My parent's stuff is in there! They'll kill me!"
"Well, it's either your parent's stuff or your life! Just sneak over to my house or something and we'll call the cops!"
"I'll...I'll try to sneak in the house, just...just give me a bit of time...he has a gun-"
"Get out of there now! Run if you have to!"
He hung up on me after that. I stood by the phone, waiting anxiously for any sign that he was ok. I suddenly got a knock on the door and I immediately ran to the door, swinging it open. Wilson was there, and he seemed like he was tired as I pulled him inside and slammed the door closed, locking the door and all of the other doors and windows in the house. I pulled Wilson down onto his stomach and we laid on my bedroom floor, under the bed. Those were the longest minutes of my life.
We waited for a while, and by that time the cops had arrived. One of the neighbors probably called them up. Wilson and I were finally able to come out of our hiding spots without worry that one of us would be shot. We didn't bother to investigate the situation, but the officers who came to our door suggested that Wilson stay with me for the night. Wilson wanted to stay with me anyway. Hawke came along and explained that he heard about the situation and might as well stay with us so we don't get shot.
For the rest of the night, Hawke ushered us to bed while he kept watch of the house. He had me a little worried. But I can't really be worried about him. His work has to do with him handling other people. It also involves what he stands for. Plus he's also good with a gun.
