Cries rang out through the night of Athens Greece, inside a small hovel a new life was brought into the world.
“H-He is beautiful..”
She whispered to herself as she held her newborn son close to her chest, Streams rolled down the subtle hills of her face. It became hard to tell whether the rivers that flowed down her face were her tears or the tears of Gaia. Either way she didn't care, all she cared about now was the beautiful boy in her arms. The dark haired women started to nurse her child watching the Midwife pack up her things and set up the small lanter on the side of the bed providing light, the midwife's gentle and wrinkled face coming in full view.
“I will return in the morning Calla, Make sure to feed him well, May Demeter bless him’’
The new mother nodded and watched the kind women leave her modest home and into darkness. Calla stared down at her boy gently stroking his cheeks tenderly while he fed, admiring his dark whisp of hair, gentle face and beautiful olive tone. He looked as though he was painted by the gods. Giggling softly Calla continued to coo over her son.
“Now traditionally your father or another man would name you. But seeing how there is no man here, I think a good nam-”
As if her words casted some spell, the single lanter went out and a darkness began to fill the small home. Calla held her son tightly as fear seemed to wrap around her. Slowly the door creaked open allowing the moonlight to pour in, a dark figured cloaked in shadows slowly stepped in; heavy footsteps following the figure as the stepped towards the bed.
Calla clutched her baby tighter against her naked chest making the boy stir and squirm uncomfortably. The cloaked figure sat gently at the foot of the small bed, a soft sigh escaping the figure.
“Calla...You look beautiful tonight..”
The young mother flinched at hearing the voice, one she prayed to all the gods she would never hear again.
“H-Hades..”
Her voice was barely a whisper as she addressed the god at the foot of her bed, she watched the god remove his cloak showing off his unnatural beauty. From the dark curls that framed his well sculpted face and bright green eyes against his pale lifeless skin, almost looking like pure marble. He stared at her with a sense of longing, a hurt look shining in his eyes as he gazed down at the child in her arms, a shadow of a smile going on his lips.
“He’s a beautiful child..”
Awkward silence filled the air for a few moments before Calla gave a shaky breath forcing the silence to be broken.
“Hades.. Why have you come here?..I-I thought our business was done”
Hades Bright eyes locked onto Calla, anger starting to brue.
“You know our ‘business’ was never completed but… I am willing to forgive for a price”
Calla eyes narrowed at him in return, Slowly Hades wondered down to the bundle now sleeping against Calla’s breast. It only took a few moments for the mother to figure it out, Clutching her babe tighter.
“NO! You are not taking him! I refuse to your ‘Price’ You won't touch him ever! I would rather die then warm your bed ever again! And i won't let you take him, I won't let him be a monster like you!”
Hades stood up in rage as he watched the Mother scream at him.
“...He is mine as well, Is he not? And if that is what you wish”
Before Calla could argue back Hades raised his hand to the women, her breath freezing in her lungs. The air refusing to leave her lungs, Hot tears started to run down her face falling on her sons face, the babe beginning to cry feeling the struggle of his mother clinging tightly onto him. Hades grabbed the crying child pressing him to his chest gently watching Calla’s beautiful olive face turn from red to a deep purple likes grapes. Her eyes gentle brown eyes began to dull as she reached out like a beggar for her child. Before her body finally fell limp onto the bed, Her dark hair fanning around her face making her look like a doll a child threw away, a look of terror being the last thing etched on the young women's face.
Hades stared down at his crying son, His shrill voice cutting the air.
“My Child..You will be alone in this world. But it make you strong”
Hades ran his fingers down his sons face slowly watching new tears stain his cheeks, taking in the beautiful face before him.
“Your name shall reflect you.. Mónos..Alone”
Cries rang out through the night of Athens Greece, inside a small hovel a life was taken from the world.
