Aydyn had still been at the office, his job seemed to never be done. Each case different in every way, at some times he hated what he had to do. Then there were the times that he was proud of being a detective. He sat at his desk, letting his elbows rest on the smooth wood. He was tired, but he needed all the information he could get about the case he was currently working on. This specific case had been personal to him, he sighed and then rubbed his eyes. Taking a break from everything he had recently got done. His hand had basically begged him to take a break, he wanted to solve this case more than any other. He finally pushed away from the desk and stood up, almost completely falling over from not using his legs for so long. Once he stood upright his arms raised above his head, and a yawn couldn’t be held back. He turned towards his desk, placing all the pictures and documents back into the case. He leaned over and began to slide it across the desk, the corner of the case hitting a picture that had sat beside a jar.
He let out a small sigh, sitting the case upright, and pushing it to the side. His hands reached across the desk to pick up the frame. Once he held it in his hands he brought it closer to his eyes, scanning the picture and letting a faint smile form on his lips. He remembered this day perfectly, it was his sister’s eighth birthday. This was the year that she had begged and pleaded for her mother to throw the small girl a Scooby-Doo party. HE let out a small laugh once he had thought about how the girl had somehow convinced the whole family to dress up as the characters. Their mother had been Velma, only because the younger female had the same fiery red hair as Daphne. Aydyn himself had to dress up as Shaggy, he didn’t mind that. He had always felt that Shaggy was the best person on the show. Their father had been Fred, of course. He took in a deep breath, his thoughts kept running to all the happy times their family had shared together, and this party had been one of them. He leaned back over to place the small frame back, his hand soon being replaced with the briefcase.
Once he held the heavier object in himself, he felt as if it was physically bringing him down. All the happy thoughts had been replaced by more serious ones, maybe this time he shouldn’t take a case that doesn’t have much evidence to help him out. He knew that all it would take was a little digging, but he just wanted to think of any kind of excuse to get out of this one. It was going to take him on an emotional rollercoaster, that was something he was positive about. He shook his head and then turned to walk out. ¨No.¨ He said out loud to himself, clutching his case tight in his hands.
¨No What?¨ Someone had asked, walking into his space. The new male had stood shorter than Aydyn, piercing blue eyes, but was a very nosey person. He was new to the firm, and also had been paired with Aydyn on this case.
Aydyn jumped up once he heard the voice, instantly looking over to where the voice had came from. His shoulder had tensed up until he realized who it had been. He slowly relaxed and then shook his head, walking towards the individual. ¨Nothing for you to worry about.¨ He mumbled out.
¨Actually...¨ The male started and then trailed off a /wicked/ smile now appearing on his face. ¨We work together now, so your stress is my stress, if it’s related to the case.¨
¨Good thing it isn’t part of the case.¨ Aydyn began to cross his arms over his chest, frustration clear in his eyes. ¨Just stop it, Cameron. I don’t need you trying to wiggle your way into this case.¨
“No, I’m just trying to help. You always seem to have something wrong with you, I’m Just trying to help.”
“Don’t you get it, I don’t need your help! I’ve already done this multiple time without you.”
“That’s not you talking Aydyn, go home and come back tomorrow.”
“That’s where I was heading until you stopped me.”
Cameron turned on his heels and walked out, stopping about midway in the hallway. “Just know that I still have to work on this case too, this isn’t just your job.” With that the male left, not giving Aydyn anytime to respond.
Aydyn closed his eyes and then rubbed his closed eyelids with his free hand. HE was just stressed, he was always told he handled things the wrong way. Always getting frustrated at the wrong things, at all the wrong people. He took in a breath and then opened his eyes, thankful that he would finally get to go back to his own home. He knew that Cameron was right, that he needed help with the case. He had done much tougher cases, but this would be the most emotionally challenging. He began walking out of his office, his footsteps bouncing off the deserted hallways. They felt like long tunnels that never seemed to end. He turned his head to the right, looking into the familiar office of Cameron. He pressed his lips into a thin line, thinking about apologizing to him. He then turned his head back around to walk towards the exit, he wasn’t going to apologize just yet. His pride wouldn’t let him, although he knew he had been in the wrong.
Aydyn had felt like a walking corpse when he got home, his mind felt like a thick fog had been covering it. He knew one thing for sure, tomorrow would be even harder if he didn’t get to sleep now. He felt crazy thinking that he would have enough time to work more on the case outside of his office, usually he would. He instantly collapsed onto his bed, the briefcase being pushed to the ground. The messy covers already seeming to lull him to sleep. As soon as his eyes began to close, he drifted off. Until something disturbed him. A pinging noise could be heard next to where he laid. His eyes cracked open and he could see the dimly lit screen, text message notifications seeming to come in faster than he thought anyone could type.
He reached over and picked up the phone, the small print still blurry to his own vision. He sat up and rubbed his eyes with his free hand, trying to get himself to wake up enough and read the messages.
After a few moments of rubbing his eyes, he looked down reading the contact name. “Cameron” He said a loud and then unlocked his phone, briefly skimming through the texts. His finger then hovered over the call button, maybe he could just read the texts and figure out what was so urgent that the other male had sent back to back messages. He let out a breath, shaking his head. His finger going down to tap the button, then bringing the phone up to his ear.
“Hello?” He heard the other male say, not bringing up the texts that had been sent.
“What’s so important, is it about the case?” Aydyn asked tiredly, not even bothering to add any kind of snarky comment.
“Well...”
“Just tell me already, I’m tired and honestly some of us enjoy sleep,” Aydyn could hear the deep breath that had been taken on the other line, which began to pull him out of his tired state. He was now beginning to grow worried about what could possibly have happened. “Is it bad?” He asked quietly, a frown across his lips.
“No, No. It’s good. We’ve found some new evidence, we should be able to view it tomorrow.”
“That’s all?”
“Yes...well no. There is more, but I don’t know if it is true or not.”
“Tell me.”
“The suspect was supposedly spotted at Wanderlust after leaving the office.”
“Wanderlust?” Aydyn asked while closing his eyes, leaning forwards slightly. “What’s that?”
“It’s a store.”
“Well I know that, What kind of store is it?”
“A travel store, most people go there whenever they are planning a trip. That means that our suspect might be trying to leave before we catch on to them.”
Aydyn’s side of the line went quiet; he didn’t know what to say, or if there was anything to say. He wanted to work on the new findings now, but he knew nothing would get done with the state he was in right now. “Cameron. Tomorrow morning at nine, come to my office. With everything you found, okay?”
“Okay.” The male said and then hung up the phone.
Aydyn sighed and then shook his head, plugging his phone into a charger. He didn’t know if this new evidence would be helpful or not. He was hoping that the evidence would be ready by tomorrow morning, if not that would set the case back. This information could be crucial. He flopped back onto his bed, his mind now awake although he was physically tired. At this moment he wished that he had never looked at his phone, the new news had kept feeding into his worry and also his fears. The fear of losing this case, the lack of evidence, and now this new information that their prime suspects was now trying to run away; it just kept piling up, bigger and bigger until they would all be trapped.
He sat up slowly, only to remove his shoes ultimately getting up to put on something more comfortable. He tossed the clothes he had on into a pile located in the corner, he eyes then wandered back to his bed. He slowly walked towards it, his feet shuffling against the floor. He didn’t stop until he had felt his foot connect with something, sending it sliding across the floor. His eyes instantly darted over to where the black box had now been, curiosity filling all of his senses. His body straightened up and he began to walk towards the object, trying to register where it may have come from. His mind jumping to the conclusion that he had forgotten about the item, probably dropping it at some point.
When he got to the object, he leaned over to pick it up bringing it up to his eyes so he could carefully examine it. The small black box had yet to register with his mind, he couldn’t seem to figure out where it came from. He let out a small breath, his fingers moving to open it. His breath was caught in his throat as soon as his eyes landed on the treasure that had been inside.
He moved to sit on his bed, taking out the silver object, the box now resided somewhere on the floor next to his feet as he put his focus on the silver watch. He remembered this, when he had first went off to college his father gave him a gift. The last one that Aydyn would received from his father. He let out a slow breath and then reached down from his sitting position to pick up the box, putting it back into the protecting box. Right now wasn’t the best time for him to reminisce about his past. He reached over and then sat the box on his dresser, getting up to turn his lights off and then going back to his bed. He laid back down, pulling the covers up to his shoulder and closed his eyes. Tomorrow was going to be an interesting day.
