We were walking to class now. When we got there, teachers were instructing us to walk the other way to get to class. Wilson managed to get a peek behind the teachers. He claimed to have seen a kid on the ground, his hands on his head and his knees on his head. He looked scared, and Wilson predicted that he was probably having an anxiety attack. Who really knows what Wilson saw? He could be making things up. Maybe he's just saying that to get attention. Or maybe he wasn't lying. Either way, I still feel bad for the kid. Rumors about him could spring up soon. It could make or break his life.
In my English class, my teacher was explaining the assignment. We had to write a poem and share it with the class. The assignment, due to some other events like rally's that came up, would be due at the end of the month. So we had plenty of time to write what we needed to write. Our teacher excused us but asked me to stay behind for a bit. I put my backpack back down on the floor next to my chair.
"Mason, you know as well as I do that you are a strong writer." He stared at me, observing me closely like he was waiting for me to bolt out the door. "And you also know that you have the highest grade in this class." I've always had a good grade in English. My teacher said once that I could be an author someday. It would give me something better to do than waste my time going to bars and drive-in theatres. "I'm willing to put you in the top form."
My eyes widened and I straightened my posture. I was currently in cp English. If I got raised to Ap English, my parents would be amazed. It would give them another thing to be proud of me for. All I could think of was the honor of being recognized by my teacher as a star student. It was the most amazing feeling in the world. "I'm honored, sir." I managed to gasp out, holding my breath for anything that was coming.
"I will make an application for you." My teacher sat on his desk, his elbows rested on his thighs, and his hands folded under his chin. "You can take it to the Ap English teacher."
I agreed to the idea. "Yes sir, thank you, sir!" I was excused from class and I bolted out the door. I ran to my next class, happy that I would soon be moved to a better class, for a better future.
