Yin shifted around on the back of the horse, she was slightly uncomfortable due to the closeness between her and Wei.
“Hey, you need to really hold on to me if you don’t want to fall off!” Wei Ji exclaimed.
“Like this?” Yin asked, wrapping her hands around Wei’s abdomen with a loose grip.
Wei chuckled and grabbed Yin’s hands, “You need to hold on tighter than that! We’re going to start going really fast!”
Yin sighed and tightened her grip around Wei’s abdomen. Wei kicked the horses sides and it began to gradually get faster until it was going so fast that even Yin, an experienced horse rider, had trouble keeping her balance.
Yin felt her face make contact with Wei’s right shoulder as she hung onto her with all of her might.
“W-Woah! How is your horse so fast?!” Yin exclaimed, “My horse doesn’t go nearly this fast!”
Wei laughed, “Just proper training and conditioning, my horse is almost as fast as Lu Bu’s Red Hare!”
Yin narrowed her eyes, “Almost as fast as the Red Hare?! I highly doubt that!”
Wei abruptly stopped her horse, causing the duo to jerk forward furiously. Yin lurched forward, pushing her body closer to Wei.
“Hehe~” Wei giggled, “Oh my my, I never knew you were so bold! Pushing yourself against me like that!”
Yin jumped back, almost falling off of the horse, “Wh-What are you talking about? You’re so weird!”
Wei glanced back towards Yin who was looking all around at the scenery. Yin seemed to become absorbed in it.
“You know, I like trees too!” Wei Ji said.
“I wasn’t admiring the trees. I saw movements in them. Something is there.” Yin said as she continued to scan the trees.
“Ah, hey, there’s probably nothing even in the trees!” Wei Ji said.
“Being hyper aware of things around you never hurt,” Yin responded, “And having two talented officers isolated in one place is a good time to attack.”
“Aww, you said I’m talented!” Wei exclaimed.
Wei opened her mouth to speak more but as she opened her mouth, an arrow flew past her face, cutting a few hairs from the side of her head.
“You know, I stand corrected, you were probably right,” Wei said, “And we should probably leave.”
Wei kicked the sides of her horse in a hurry, her horse quickly rushing off away from the failed assassins.
Wei halted some few hundred meters away. Wei and Yin were both out of breath, even though they hadn’t even been running themselves.
“That was tense, wasn’t it?” Wei asked.
“You’re sure taking this lightly, seeing as how you’ve just been exposed to proof that there are assassins after us.” Yin said.
Wei shrugged her shoulders, her horse clapped its hooves against the ground and made a snorting noise.
Wei sighed, “That was fun, wasn’t it?” She asked, “I mean, I like fighting really strong females, but riding a horse at full speed is also pretty fun!”
“We could have died back there,” Yin said, “I don’t think that’s very fun…”
“I beg to differ!” Wei exclaimed.
“Then beg!” Yin snapped.
Wei giggled, “Oh my my, how rude, I am so personally offended… I’m just kidding, it doesn’t matter much to me…”
Yin sighed and looked behind her, searching for the former assailants. After a few moments of not seeing them, she turned her attention back to Wei.
“Why did I have to get stuck here with you of all people? If you haven’t noticed, in the time that you spent going full speed on your horse, we lost all of your soldiers!” Yin exclaimed.
“Ah, don’t worry, it’ll all work out in the end!” Wei said, shrugging her shoulders.
“Why do I feel like that way of thinking will kill us both…” Yin groaned.
Wei laughed and elbowed Yin slightly in the abdomen. Yin recoiled slightly at this unexpected touch, but otherwise remained calm.
“Let’s get back to civilization, okay?” Wei said.
Yin nodded as Wei kicked the sides of her horse and the duo rode off into the distance, leaving only dust in their tracks.
