"Here we are..." A strong exhale of relief came from the driver's mouth, decorated with a nervous smile. Ulo looked up as some drops of water hit his nose and he shivered at the touch. Jolark noticed this as he parked the car before it gave up again as it frequently did and reached over to the little one. Smiling at him, the exhausted man picked up Ulo and held him to his torso as he sat in the front seat. Looking up as the rain remained constant but thankfully not heavy, Jolark admitted to his friend they should get inside to the hotel. He was happy to be back in Arbo as he longed to see the locals and find out how they were faring. Nobody was doing well after the war but that was a while ago now, or at least not just last week. Arbo was one of the luckier towns in Bahndett, sure they had to deal with the sea snakes attacking randomly at night but the town was mostly intact and a lot of the residents had survived the assault. A few minor incidents happened on a yearly basis but that could be said for most places in the world. Jolark stooped to pick up his backpack where he kept his essentials for hygiene and treats for Ulo. Being quick, the dark-haired man scampered into the dry hotel and set Ulo down on the floor so he could investigate the surroundings. Due to his canine tendencies, the tynko shook himself dry all over the wooden floorboards which amused Jolark but certainly not the owner behind the desk.
"You better clean that up, young man! I do not spend my days keeping this place clean just for you and your..." the owner sneered at Ulo, "thing... to mess it up again."
Jolark smiled sheepishly at him and turned to his friend.
"Well? You heard the man."
Ulo nodded and turned to the little drops of water on the floor. His nose opened up and a small pipe popped out. Leaning over the droplets, Ulo used the pipe as a vacuum and removed the little puddles so the floor was completely dry again. Jolark grinned and turned to the owner, Mr. Yutoh who was still sneering at the tynko but did not look quite as angry as before.
"So," Mr. Yutoh turned to Jolark and refreshed his face to the usual miserable expression, "one night or two?"
4 - ARBO - Tami Sollu
"I have to go home." She whispered to him as they stood, kissing each other under a flimsy metallic roof that barely contained the water falling down on them.
"Aww..." He pressed his body into her closer to suggest she change her mind and stay with him for a little longer as he was enjoying this as much as she was. "Are you sure?"
Tami bit her lip as she felt his tongue on her neck, followed by a delicate application of teeth.
"I'm sure." She returned the favour with her fingers tracing the outline of his trousers and his prominent excitement. "It's late."
Argyle groaned in her ear at her advances and kissed her hungrily on the mouth.
"It's not that late, babe."
The two looked at each other with lust in their eyes and the possibilities ran through their minds for what to do next. Holding her by the wrists, Argyle lifted her arms up over her head and stood closer still so his body was pressed against hers. He grinned as he felt her mouth, open and her hot breath hitting his lips. Everything felt amazing, these early stages always did. So many possibilities. Tami watched him, panting heavily as she too felt her anticipation for a release build in her underwear. She wanted him so badly but knew that it was getting late and the beaches were not completely safe at night. Even the want for him inside her was not enough to stop her bringing this game to a close.
"It's not safe..."
Grunting in acknowledgement that she was right, Argyle released her arms and stood back.
"Damn snakes."
Tami adjusted her top, pulling the thin material down over her breasts that were exposed and alert.
"Damn snakes." She echoed his sentiment and smiled a little. "Come on, we can walk back together."
Nodding solemnly, Argyle put his arm across her shoulders and escorted her along the empty streets towards her home which was not far from his own apartment. Ever since the war, Arbo had been a nighttime habitat for sea snakes. They enjoyed the rain and anyone stupid enough to wander around the dunes after nightfall.
Shuffling through the damp streets, two men made their way towards the Sollu Lodge, a workshop for all sorts of repairs to many different things; vehicles, household objects, mechia, tynko. Pretty much everything was covered in that place and due to Arbo's low population numbers, there was never a long wait for the only resident Sollu to work their trade. The original owner and father to the two most known for running the Lodge had died many years ago before the recent war broke out. He had left everything as it was in the beginning and his two apprentices kept the place exactly the same way. One had left town after the war to see a specialist for his injuries while the other remained in Arbo, keeping the place going. The only problem was supplies and that required scouts to go to nearby canyons or mech dumps to scavenge for parts. It was a dangerous job as the silent and derelict dunes outside of Arbo were full of unseen threats. Sand Ghosts, the locals referred to them as, though most Bahndettians would simply call them Spirits; memories of the dead, lost in the wilderness. They did pop up all over the country, however, those found in the desert were particularly hostile if aggravated. As Adanas and Etad had found out on their way home.
"I still say it was your fault."
The smaller man laughed loudly and shook his head, causing raindrops to scatter around him.
"Of course it was! My amusement at your stupidity awoke the Sand Ghosts."
Adanas scowled at Etad and his smug grin. Playing it back in his mind, the taller remembered how he had tripped over an old engine part from something and fallen face first into a pile of cables. The laughter from his fellow scout had been loud and that was when the Sand Ghosts emerged.
"I'm just thankful we got the supplies before your trip," Etad flicked his nose to remove some drops of water from it, "by the way, how was it?"
"Oh shut up." Adanas turned the corner towards the Sollu Lodge and saw the lights were off. "Must be at the bar..."
Etad shuddered and glanced at the other man.
"Please don't mention that word, too soon."
They both nodded in silent unison until Adanas chuckled.
"That was your fault." He held up his hands at the protest from Etad. "It was! We were having a friendly game of pool and you just had to bring it up. Again!"
Etad snorted loudly and leant on a metal fence overlooking the beach. He had to admit that his friend, though that would not be his word choice for Adanas, was right on that matter. His love for Iilya was awoken after a few bottles of Usheb Valley's ale and he decided to declare it to the world. Or in that case, a few locals of the sunny town and this man standing next to him.
"You know we both love her," the curly haired Adanas leant on the railing too and sighed, "it always brings out the worst in us. Jealousy or whatever it is."
"Yeah," Etad slumped on the rail and winced as he did so, "but what brought that on?"
"I don't know." Adanas noticing the uncomfortable look on Etad's face, tried his best not to ask him how he was. "I think we just went too crazy, as usual."
Etad blinked as the rain continued to fall softly. He was not as convinced as Adanas on that part of what happened but too tired to think about it any more, he returned his thoughts to tonight and where to find Sollu.
