Jolark and Tami were still sitting talking as the bar started to empty for the night and Mr. Lombat started to clean up. Realising that the time had flown by, Tami looked at the clock behind her and covered her eyes with her left hand as she held her head back in a dramatic fashion. Jolark chuckled at her reaction.
"Past your bedtime?"
"You could say that," she stood up and waved to Mr. Lombat who was picking up empty glasses at a nearby booth. "I said I'd only be a few minutes."
Enbo's loud laugh overtook anything Jolark could offer.
"Hours more like," he walked over and placed the glasses in the washer behind the bar, "hey Jolark?"
"Yeah?"
The owner offered sheepish smile and held out some keys on one finger.
"If you lock up for me, I'll walk Tami home."
Jolark studied the keys for a moment but before long was accepting the trade. It was not far to the apartment block they both resided in and the reward of a free drink was too pleasing to the traveller.
"Deal." Mr. Lombat smiled and handed over the keys. "Help yourself to a freebie."
Jolark threw him a drunken grin as his plan was rumbled and approached Tami for a goodnight hug.
"You say goodbye to me tomorrow before you leave, okay?"
Tami nodded as her friend promised he would drop in on her before leaving for the cold and miserable Lengrat. Part of him wanted to stay here with warm company and friends but he knew he had to go.
"Promise," he smiled again and kissed her cheek, "I'll bring Ulo too."
Everyone smiled as Tami jumped up and down at that news for tomorrow. Sitting back down at the bar, Jolark waved and watched Mr. Lombat escort Tami out of the bar and up towards their apartments. Admiring the empty room, Jolark stretched and got to work on cleaning up any dirty glasses or papers from the floor and tables. It was something to do and he was happy to help his friends. He knew that Enbo worked long hours and did not get much sleep. That, and he had other priorities besides work which Jolark admired greatly. Nothing should take focus away from that part of life, absolutely nothing. Placing a hand in a back pocket on his trousers, Jolark pulled out a well worn and loved photograph. Looking at the picture fondly, he kissed it carefully and smiled to himself.
"Thanks for walking me home, Enbo."
The big man waved if off and opened the door to the main hall of apartments, one floor up from the abandoned nightclub. It was getting late in the night so most of the occupants of the building were either asleep or in the battle to stay awake.
"Have a good night, love." He winked at Tami as she unlocked the door to an apartment and grinned at her blown kiss in his direction before the door closed. Watching him through the peephole, Tami breathed softly and watched him ascend the stairs to the next floor up. She turned and held her head as the room spun in a weird fashion. Too much to drink but thankfully not enough to make her sick. She could handle these dizzy spells, especially if she got distracted or got to lie down. Tip-toeing carefully into the living room and its adjoining kitchen, Tami slipped her shoes off and wobbled a little bit as her balance shifted.
"Well aren't you some state?"
She looked up and grinned at the man standing, leaning on the threshold to the bedroom. She could see that there was a candle or small lamp burning in the other room, offering some ambiance to the pink walls.
"Ran into Jolark."
Argyle chuckled and covered his mouth as he suddenly understood why Tami was a little drunk. Drinking with Jolark was a dangerous past-time, he hardly ever got drunk and you always ended up on the floor in no matter of time. Nobody could get one over on him, even Enbo with his massive bulk got drunk before Jolark even got tipsy.
"Argyle?" Tami walked over to him and stopped shy of his stance, one foot over the other in a confident pose which amused her considering he was completely naked. "Something you want to explain?"
He looked over his shoulder at the wrestled bed sheets and evidence of some company, before looking back at the tall and stunning Tami who was now right beside him. He closed his eyes as he felt her teeth on his earlobe, her breath sounding hungry and her left hand holding him by the neck. Argyle turned his head to her and kissed her strongly, holding on to her jacket and helping her slip out of it. He stooped down to bite gently at her chest through that same, teasing shirt from before and reached around with both hands to hold her to him. Tami moaned into his ear softly at his advances, feeling his enjoyment on her hip as she pressed herself into him. When she walked in and saw him, it was obvious that he was in the mood for some fun which worked as she was too. These advances were helping her block out the dizziness too.
"Tami, get on the bed, I want to taste you." She bit her lip at his rough voice and order, he really knew how to turn a woman on. Being as quick as possible, so he could have his hands, fingers and everything else on her again, Tami walked past him to the bedroom and sat on the bed, throwing him one long, lustful look before he closed the door behind him.
Jolark locked up the bar and was walking back to his hotel when his eye caught someone walking in the rain towards the apartment building where Tami lived. He double-checked he had locked the door and ran after them, catching up to the small white jacket just as the door to the apartment block was opened.
"Iilya?"
The little woman turned and looked at the damp man behind her. Seeing who it was made her smile immediately, run out again, down the steps and embrace him in the rain. He held her to him and spun around a little, chuckling at her adorable giggle. They both acknowledged that they should get in out of the wet and Iilya suggested he stop in for a cup of tea at her place. Jolark agreed and stressed it would just be the one cup as he had to get back to the hotel. The two made their way up the steps and into the hallway for the first tier of apartments. Closing the door quietly behind them, Jolark watched Iilya take her jacket off and hang it on a hook near the entrance and smile at him softly. She reminded him of someone special to him, so much that he could not help but gaze at her. Iilya barely reached past his shoulder but she made up for her lack of height with her personality and love for her friends. How she remained so pale in Arbo's climate astounded him but knowing a little of her background, Jolark shrugged it off. Sitting on the single seat next to a worn sofa, he glanced around the dimly lit room and took in the surroundings. A potted plant stood, wilting next to one of the windows, a light breeze catching the thin, white veil making it look like a spooky spirit. Magazines scattered across the small table next to his legs and a plate that had been the home to some dinner on the floor. Unlike his host to be so messy but he knew people were their own bosses in their homes.
"Here you go," Iilya handed him a mug of tea. The kettle had already been boiled prior to her getting back so it had not been a long, painful wait for something warm to drink.
"Just you here tonight?"
Iilya sat on the sofa opposite and nodded.
"Where's this roommate I keep hearing about?"
"Must be out," she sipped her drink and exhaled at the welcome warmth in her throat, "or asleep."
Jolark nodded and sat back in the chair. He studied her expression as she seemed nervous. Her fingers tracing the top of the mug carefully.
"What's up, Iilya?"
She looked up at him and sat forward in her seat. Setting her mug down on the table, she opened her mouth and promptly closed it again. Unsure of how to ask, Iilya swallowed her nerves and looked at him.
"To get here, did you take the coastal road or..."
Jolark leant his head to one side and rested his right foot on his other knee.
"No, I took the desert road. Y'know, the one that loops past the mountains." He sipped his tea before nodding to himself. "Drove past Vodren, not going there if I can help it and along past-"
Iilya sat forward again and looked at him sternly.
"Zhemhawk Cavern." He blinked at her interruption. "Why did you not go to Vodren?"
Jolark blinked again, heavier than before and thought about her question. He knew that she understood not many people liked to go to that town, it was dark and dank. But more importantly it was dangerous, nobody was safe in that place.
"I don't have any business there, Iilya." He watched her stand up and walk over to the window, her arms crossed and her steps heavy. Drinking more of his tea, Jolark decided it best to not approach the clearly upset girl so he kept his distance and waiting for her talk. It would be a long wait.
Walking back to the hotel with a stomach and bladder full, Jolark replayed what he had just been told by the ever elegant Iilya. It did not make sense, none of it did. He guessed she was having a joke at his naive expense but why would she want to jest about something that horrid. She had seemed distracted, perhaps something was going on that she did not want him knowing...
"Hey buddy," Jolark whispered as he was greeted by Ulo at the door to his room. "What are you doing up?"
Ulo wagged his little metal tail at his friend and followed him through to the bathroom, where the door was closed in his face. He could hear the sound of something liquid hitting water and guessed it to be private business so left Jolark to it. Jumping up onto the bed, Ulo wandered around the soft surface and lay down, waiting for his friend to return. A loud sigh of relief was heard from the bathroom, followed by the sound of the toilet flushing. Not long after that, more water being ran and what sounded like a strange crunching noise. When Jolark reemerged, Ulo realised that the crunching had been his master brushing his teeth and he wagged his tail again.
"What did you do while I was out?" Jolark removed his clothing and got into bed, rubbing the tynko under his metallic chin affectionately. "Did you bother Mr. Yutoh? I bet you did," he laughed at Ulo wagging his tail harder meaning he was accurate, "you little devil." A big yawn escaped Jolark's lungs and he admitted to his friend he needed to rest. Ulo longed to bark but failed as always, so instead rubbed his little nose against Jolark's before hopping off the bed to explore the floor again. Lying on his back, the dark haired man found himself tracing several conversations of the night before dozing off with his arms behind his head.
Argyle stirred in his sleep as he felt someone slide into the bed with him, they felt cold and it brought him out of his slumber. He listened to her whisper an apology and grunted in acceptance as he fell asleep again. Biting her lip not to giggle too loud, Tami pressed her body against his back as he lay on his side and closed her eyes again. One thing she hated about drinking too much, the constant need to empty her bladder. Smiling to herself as events from earlier replayed in her mind's eye, Tami sighed happily and waited for sleep to find her again. She was about to doze off when she felt something cold at her back. Believing she had forgotten to close the bedroom door, Tami rolled onto her back but stopped as she saw a familiar face getting into the bed with her.
"Where have you been?" Tami whispered to the little, naked angel as she got a kiss to her forehead and a smile. "You're freezing!"
"You're just hot." The blonde shrugged as she got into bed with her lover and one of her best friends. Tami started to turn around so she was facing the smaller woman but was stopped as she got a strong kiss to her lips and felt a familiar feeling of Iilya's fingers on her breast. Closing her eyes again, Tami gave in and hauled her beautiful girl on top of her, her delicate body pressing against hers. Tami's tanned skin, aside from a few thin tan lines looked a complete contrast to Iilya's pale complexion, ignoring the difference in height. They do say opposites attract after all, and there were plenty of differences in Tami and Iilya. But they ignored the frowns of the world and got on with enjoying one another, as they did on a regular basis. Sitting up, so she was sat on her girlfriend's stomach, Iilya placed Tami's mechia hand on her skin and rotated her hips in tease at her. The sight spurred Tami on, causing her to sit forward and return some affection to the pale breasts in front of her with her mouth. Iilya moaned louder than she meant to, causing Argyle to groan in mild annoyance at being awoken again. Tami glanced up at Iilya and grinned as they both tried to suppress their amusement at his ignorance to their movements. Iilya pointed to the looped metal headboard and started to crawl up Tami's body, causing her to lie back again. If this was going where the taller suspected it was, Argyle would be awake in no time...
"You better be able to keep quiet, Iilya." She whispered at the little devil as she stopped crawling and looked down at her with an impish grin.
"No promises."
