I hated shopping, which couldn't make me and Jacob anymore different. He went into every store known to man, and they only time I got excited was shopping for art supplies. Don't get me wrong I bought myself a sweater from Garage; we also journeyed into Target to buy some cheap Christmas stuff to decorate the loft with since we had nothing.
Jacob ended up leaving since it was his boyfriend's dad birthday, he asked me to join him. Nut I didn't want to impose on them or anything but I wanted some more coffee before I left the mall and ventured back into the cold snow with arms filled with decorations.
Starbucks took forever, so I ignored my daily dose of coffee and decide to walk home. The brisk air brushed against my checks, the wet snow clung to my boots I couldn't wait to get home and surprise Keegan with some Christmas decorations, I might not be a big fan of Christmas at the moment but maybe he enjoys it.
I enter the lobby, as the bell man gives me my mail and I make my way to the elevator my phone begins to ring. I couldn't answer it my hands full, so I ignore it hopping they would leave a voicemail.
I banged on the door praying Keegan would answer the door, but he wasn't. Maybe he left again or was still sleeping?
"Keegan!" I holler at the door, finally the door open and it isn't Keegan but a little brown haired girl with her rosy checks pressed up against the door she looked so familiar but I couldn't pin where I knew her from.
Her eyes sparkling blue matching Keegan's eyes, ahh this must have been his little sister. I saw her the night of his accident. "Hi," I say to her, "Can I come in?"
She looks at me quietly nodding her head an slowly opening the door, I set the bags down at the door and she runs over to the couch sitting perfectly against it placing my pillow on her lap. "Hello, I'm Joe. What's your name?" I walk over and sit on Keegan's comforter, starring at her.
Shelooks down at my pillow, not looking up and slowly moving her lips but no words came out. "Where's your brother?" I asked again, but tears welled into her eyes.
"You shouldn't answer the door without telling me." I turn to look up and find myself in awe of Keegan's hard, lean frame as he stood half-naked before me. His hair wet from the shower framed his face and I tried to tear my gaze from the pale outline of his magnificent form, but it was no use he already noticed my stare, and his devilishly handsome features shifted into a knowing grin as he caught me staring.
"Is she bugging you?" Keegan questions his sister. "Like what you see Kendall?" He gestures towards his body, the towel wrapped around his waist line.
His sister automatically runs to him, clinging to his legs. "Maybe when the kid isn't around?" He says with a cocky grin and a wink.
Now I was turned off completely by him, and why was I even turned on to begin with? Behind the layer of hotness was an egotistic prick, and his soft side wasn't even showing around his sister.
I rolled my eyes, receiving a chuckle from Keegan, "Her name is Cassidy," He looks down at her with such admiration. "How about you go to the kitchen and grab yourself a pop tart, I'll be back out soon." He bats Cassidy on the back, as she trails along to the counter.
I watched her as she slowly slides the pop-tart out of the box, careful enough not to make a noise. Still not uttering a word toward me and she was adorable slowly nibbling on the strawberry tart with a satisfying smile.
"Sorry about her," Keegan stands dressed in sweat pants and a loose t-shirt, brushing his hand through his still wet hair. "She's going through a lot at home, and my Mother didn't want her around with the way our Father is being at home."
"It's okay," I shuffle to the door grabbing the Christmas decorations I bought, "I can help take her mind of things." I pull out some tinsel, braising it around my neck.
"Maybe a cute little girl would like to decorate the room with me?" I glance around the room pretending to not see Cassidy, "Any little girls want to help?" Her eyes bugged out and her hand immediately goes up in the air.
A smile grows on my face, and Keegan rest against the wall his devilish grin flashing his dimples. I drew my eyes away from him, realizing I haven't been able to keep my eyes off him and it needed to stop now.
Cassidy already begins to drawing all of the decorations out on the floor her face brightens up like a sun, she was gleaming and Keegan was laughing.
The snowflake banners were stringed around the room, the classic mistletoe was hanging over the door way to the bathroom, and the stocking where hung and the only thing left was the tree.
It felt wholesome to laugh with someone for once, the tree showed white which was only as tall a Cassidy and was set in the front of the windows facing the street. "You want to decorate the tree Cassidy?" I asked bending down to her level.
She shakes her head in agreement, taking the blue ornaments out of the box and placing them on the tree. "Thanks," Keegan says sitting on the couch watching Cassidy carefully place the ornaments on the tree. "I didn't know what to do, I mean this place isn't exactly kid friendly."
"Is that judging by the beer or the surprise visit?" I asked him, a grin tugged on his lips.
He sighs, "You got me there Joey." Setting his arm along the top of the couch, his hand lightly touching my shoulder sending shiver through my spin and slightly taken back from this simple gesture.
Cassidy pauses from decorating the tree, her smile that was held not too long ago faded away with a look of sorrow taking place. She waddles over to Keegan, lifting her frail body on top of the couch whispering something in his ear.
Keegan cackles into laughter, as Cassidy's face begins to rush with redness, blushing almost. "I don't think so Cass."
His smile soon fades to a frown as a knock on the door startles them both up out of their seats, Keegan strait away opening the door not letting us have a view of the person behind the door. Shutting the door behind him, taking the situation outside voices mumbled, and yelling begins to arise from the hall way.
Cassidy was absolutely frightened, her body curling up against the couch inching closer and closer to me. "Cass, who is it?"
She shakes her head, either not giving me the answer or not wanting to tell me who it is.
"Let me see my damn daughter Keegan!" A large voice booms from the hallway, "God dammit! I'll kick this door down!" The stern voice ringing through the halls, I'm surprised with all that's happened in the hall why we haven't gotten any complaints
"Dad," Keegan softly speaks. "I'll grab her, calm down!"
"You lost your right to call me that!" His Father's voice rather raucous.
I stand up waiting for the man to enter the door bug I get tugged down by Cassidy her hand wrapped around mine, "I don't want to go home..." She finally speaks, but her voice is brittle making me feel bad for her living situation,
The door automatically swung open, Keegan holding the door as his Father's stalky built stormed through approaching me like a lion on the hunt. His face beat red, and his eyes matching Keegan and Cassidy's almost to the exact color.
His height definitely superior to me and even Keegan, he bends down to Cassidy face to face. "Come on honey, let's go home. Nanny Jenifer has hot cocoa waiting for you." He attempts to grab her hand but she's still attached to my hand.
I look down at her, but she isn't looking at me, she's looking at Keegan and she looks scared. Keegan's face was left staring at the ground, "Cassidy, you should go to Daddy." I tug on my arm forcing he rot look at me.
Their father begins to growl, "Don't you dare talk to my daughter, you-you whore!" He begins to raise his hand attempting to slap me, but Cassidy begins to scream shaking her head back and forth placing her hands on her ears.
Keegan screams, the sound of his footsteps scarring me the loud thud and his Dad is on the ground gripping the side of his face. "Get out of here now!" Keegan points toward the door, "Come back when your sober, and don't you dare ever say that filthy word to Joey again."
His Dad slowly looks up at him, baffled at his own son's sudden movements, "You're going to regret that son." He slowly crawls back up standing, before slamming the door.
Tears fell open my shirt, staining it like red wine Cassidy holding my shirt tightly agonist her. Keegan sighs slowly lading against the door, his face buried in his hands.
"Hey," I slowly say, removing Cassidy's hand away from her ears. "How about you got to sleep?" I ask her, she slowly glances up and shakes her head in agreement.
Keegan draw himself from of the floor and stands up, walking over to Cassidy and I, "You can sleep in my bed, okay?"
But she shakes her head, saying no to the offer wanting to sleep on the couch/ my bed." I don't think-"
I look at Keegan, sadness shown in my eyes. "It's okay; I can sleep on the floor." I show a sympathy smile.
"No it's okay, you can sleep on the bed with me.."
"What?" Is all I manage to say before glaring at him, baffled at his motion of me sleeping with him. Us? Sleeping in the same bed, side by side?
Keegan's face was stern no sense of humor showing whatsoever, making me more and more anxious from his outrageous outburst. "I don't bite and you can sleep on one end and I'll sleep on the other."
I could feel my face beginning to turn bright shade of red, my body starts to wiggle back and fourth trying to keep my breathing at a steady pace. Keegan begins to cackle into a smile. "Joey?" He waves his hand in front of my face, "Hello?"
"Umm yeah, sure." I mumble before getting up and quickly moving over to my dresser, slowly grabbing my clothes out from the drawers.
"What's your problem? Never slept in the same bed as a guy before?" I hear him stand up and then his body was practically hovering over mine, casting a shadow. "Joey, you never slept in the same bed as another guy before." He didn't even make the last one question but more as a statement.
I turn around, my eyes falling to the ground feeling vulnerable, "Well I wouldn't really say that." I whisper in a hush tone.
He crackles bringing out his toothy grin. "You were engaged and you never slept in the same bad as him? That means your a-"
My words sound shaken, as the poured out of my mouth. "Virgin." I mumbled, "Yeah I'm a virgin."
I never truly craved love making before and just always thought about the consequence of having a STI or a child, and just never wanted to deal with the who I lost my virginity and I regret who I had it with. To be quite honest I look back and I'm glad I didn't make love with Nathan, I mean I loved him just didn't think I would have to prove it through sexual intercourse.
Keegan doesn't say anything he rubs his chin, then pauses before speaking again. "How about you sleep on the bed and I'll sleep on the floor, okay?"
I look up and notice he is actually trying to be sincere, "Thanks Keegan." I utter before running into the bathroom to change, avoiding anymore awkward dialogue with the devil.
As I throw my pajamas on, I end up glancing in the mirror my face still beat red from the talk with my freckles reflecting against them, I always feel like their my biggest insecurities about my appearance they almost looked like connect the dots. My hair was loosely falling over my shoulders, the chocolate waves creating knots. I looked like this when I was in front of Keegan all the time, and never have a had someone not look at me the way he just did.
"Hey, you okay in there?" Keegan's voice catches me off guard, making me jump, "My second member and I really need to got to the bathroom."
I open the door immediately, Keegan's body covered the door way leaning against the trim. My face directly in front of his, taking in all his features down from his burnt black eye brows to his champagne blue eyed, his lips held firmed together and his a crooked to the left nose. He was almost perfectly in perfect, and maybe it's the talk I had with Jacob earlier that's making me think this way about Keegan but the way he just acted with his sister made me understand why he has such a ruff ego.
"Sorry, I was just getting uhm-" And I couldn't help it any longer, I quickly garbed his shirt and pulled him in, he seem surprised and stunned unable to move from my notion. My eyes were wide open staring into his, I could feel the tension in his lips. He was paralyzed, and I knew I just made a huge mistake. I let go immediately and backed up into the door and all he could do was stare at me, his eye brows furrowed.
I looked away, shocked by my own sudden movement," I'm sorry." I said faintly before I turned darting toward his bed, and leaving him is disbelief.
