The early morning fog loomed as far as he could see, it was almost tangible, shrouding everything in a thick white veil, the light barely managing to penetrate the haze. The sounds of birdsong and motors that should have been filling the air around him all seemed to have disappeared, even his footsteps had been swallowed by the greedy beast.
The mornings devastated him, made him basically weep at the sight of darkness. His boss had called him in early to appraise some papers and to go over the final contract, to be the witness to it all.
Something didn't feel right, the dense fog might have added to the eery feeling that seemed to engulf him in emotion. But, in hindsight he really hated the job and hated approaching the sky-high building basically a skyscraper in this small town, maybe after work, he could settle down with a few drinks and smother his head in between a hookers legs.
He sighed, with a smile that died faster than wisps of smoke dissipated after a candle flame has been snuffed out.
The bodyguard was nowhere in sight, which was odd on a morning like this but, at the same time, he was usually late on Mondays.
He snuffled onwards pressing the button to the elevator when it finally grasped open for him, he walked in tugging on his tie loosing up the stiffness in his neck.
The elevator had mahogany timber walls, with a green carpet, a silver handrail, and no buttons. He pressed his ID against a small scanner, an alarm sounded on as it projected him to the twenty-first floor, the final floor as the elevator ground to a halt.
Solid metal doors opened up, stepping out to bear witness to the crystal clear ceiling, what would've been crystal clear if it wasn't for the blood dripping along the outside of the building.
The blood didn't gush in a constant flow, but the compulsive beating of his heart. It was thick and strong, flowing through the cracks of the glass as if something bigger crushed its body against the glass causing the pressure to crease inwards.
With intense silence, he somehow screamed with his entire body, quaking at the sight of all the gore that was placed above him. His eye wide with horror, he was immobile and didn't know where to look except for the part where his boss ran towards him, covered in blood.
"Run," His boss shouted at him, "Get back!" The approaching footsteps made the wet sound of someone running through puddles, puddles of blood.
But he couldn't move, not until his boss finally reached him and pushed him back in the elevator. His body lucid, his heart beating from the adrenaline pumping through his veins, as his boss yank him forwards.
"Derek," The boss utters quietly, placing his finger among his lips, "I need you to be quiet, okay."
Derek looked up to see the blood has covered over half of his boss' face, his gums creased with blood. "Listen, Derek, it's here."
He didn't know what to listen to his boss and ask the question or his impulse to make him scream.
When the elevator finally dinged open, the foray was dark from the fog but a giant shadow has placed itself among it.
"Derek, you won't believe it till you see it." He whispers quietly into his ear before, grabbing Derek's arm and crouching towards the front desk. "Let me show you."
He couldn't believe what he was seeing, as the boss placed the computer screen to security footage, "That's impossible..." Derek grasped against the wall, being his eyes from the thing he just saw.
"The Mutation, it's here." His boss smiled a little, a smile with a twist to it, like the smile of a maniac.
The beast appeared again, on the computer screen, it was the most disturbing thing, a cat mixed with a hawk. Its presence was a face of a cat, the hind legs appeared that of hawk feat and the legs placed in the front showed cat paws, it's staggering height ranged between sixteen feet.
"It's beautiful Derek, everything that this world needs to strive again."
