I lied. It wasn’t as smooth as that. I wish it happened that way. They did both show up but at very different times. Jenny was on time, and we did talk for a while. I mentioned my offer to her again, and she didn’t flat out reject it. That’s a step forward, I guess. I did buy lots of food, but because I went grocery shopping for the week. Of course, it was going to last me a while. That other man did eventually show up, though Jenny had to leave not much long after. He didn’t say much, and he ate in silence. Just watching him was a little sad. He ate so slowly, almost as though he was trying not to get caught, with that sort of aura. I questioned him about it. He froze. I shouldn’t have asked, but I did. We sat like that for a while, and he did eventually open a bit. Most people wouldn’t have noticed a difference, but I did. His shoulders relaxed a little more. He sat a little more upright. I got to know a little more about him that night.
