Our Forgotten Love

Chapter 1

Chapter 1

Nov 24, 2018

In the center of the Green-Bell Valley, exists the Divine Red Peach Tree gifted by Mother Deity before she left into the Heaven of Nothingness. The Divine Tree is the only one of its kind- able to produce a single red peach every 10,000 years. Some say that one bite of the divine red peach could extend a mortals' lifespan by 50,000 years. For immortals, it provided thousands of years of cultivation. Unfortunately, none of these rumors were ever proven, as the red peach is destroyed every time it comes to fruition by the guarding peach spirits so that no greedy deity would take advantage of its powers. 20,000 years ago, it was under this divine tree that Taotao and Xuehua made an unbreakable promise to each other- swearing loyalty and sisterhood for all eternity- becoming blood sisters. The name "Xue Hua" (snow flower) was also given by Taotao after many days of consideration.

Since that day, the two girls learned together, played together, trained together- as if they were joined at the hip. And just like that 20,000 peaceful years flew by.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Xuehua sat under the marble pavilion overlooking the clear pond, twirling her calligraphy brush. The midday sun is at full height, casting a wonderful glow on the lotus flowers floating on the pond. Xuehua diligently reads and copies down the scriptures, and glances at Taotao, who is currently taking an afternoon nap. Xuehua's face wrinkles up into a frown as she reaches over and grabs Taotao's copying scroll. As expected, the scroll was as blank as the clear blue sky. Xuehua sighs and slams the scroll onto the table, waking Taotao up with a jolt.

"Why did you wake me?" Taotao aks while yawning and stretching her arms.

"If you don't hurry and finish your homework, you will be punished tomorrow by teacher again. Unless you want to kneel for 3 days again, then be my guest." Xuehua coldly replies, facing the scriptures in her hand.

"Learning scriptures is boring!" Taotao says while expertly latching herself onto Xuehua's arm, and looking up at her with tear filled eyes. "My beloved and beautiful sister, you have to help your poor sister," she begs with a soft, childish voice. No one can resist Taotao's method of acting innocent and pitiful, and Xuehua is no exception. Xuehua sighs once more. "Alright, alright, what do you want me to do?" she asks. Taotao, knowing that her act was successful secretly smiles to herself. "Actually, been thinking about this for a long time now. And don't worry it's not tying up the teacher and tossing him into the pond. After thinking for 3 months, I have finally come up with the perfect plan!" she says, pausing to lean closer to Xuehua.

"I am going to leave the Valley," she whispers into Xuehua's ear. Xuehua was in shock. Never did she think, that the silly girl would try to leave the formation again after she was punished greatly for it the last time. Maybe she should satisfy Taotao and just toss the teacher into the pond, Xuehua thought. She was lost in her thoughts and didn't notice Taotao talking to her until Taotao poked her forehead. "Hey, stop thinking, you always overthink. I know it's dangerous on the outside, but I can't stand it here anymore. If it isn't the teacher, then it's my parents telling me to train me to take over guarding the Divine Tree," she rambled on while pacing back and forth. I will only be gone for a couple of months at the most. Please help me distract everyone until I'm gone," she pleads, and kneels beside Xuehua and tugs on her arm, like a child that wants a toy.

"It's too dangerous. Your fairy cultivation is not enough against any Beast spirits," Xuehua says after being pulled from her thoughts. "Besides what are you planning on doing after you leave? What if you can't find any food? What if you starve to death? You eat 6 bowls of rice every night, you won't live to see the sunrise again if you leave," she says with a worried heart.

"I'll be fine, I promise," Taotao says trying to reason with Xuehua. "I just heard that in the Black Pearl Sea, a fish spirit caught a black pearl the size of a head! Can you believe it? Imagine how much that treasure must cost. I have to go to take a look. It will only be for a few months. Plus you and I are connected, you will know if I'm in any danger," Taotao says while revealing the red peach flower mark on her right wrist- a blessing from the Divine Tree after the two girls swore sisterhood.

Xuehua sighs, for the third time today. This stupid girl is always listening to rumors; Always chasing those so-called priceless treasures, Xuehua thought. "I'm sure, whatever I say you are going to go anyways," Xuehua says with a frown.

"I won't be able to do it without your help," Taotao pouts and places her head onto Xuehua's lap. "I promise, I will come back as soon as possible. Just tell my parents that I retreated to the Lantern Cave to meditate and train. They won't notice a thing. And I will be back before you know it. Besides its only for 3 months, and if I can fish a big black pearl for myself, we will be rich!"

After all her convincing, Xuehua's considers everything and thinks that it might not be a bad idea. After all, both of them are connected. She will know if Taotao falls into any danger. Plus, nothing will stop Taotao once she starts getting ideas in her head. It is better to save her from another one of grandmother's beating. "Fine, I'll cover for you. But when you come back, you better not decide to leave again. Because then I will be the one beating you," Xuehua says, finally relenting to Taotao's wishes. Taotao smiles and hugs Xuehua. Both girls then leave to prepare for the next morning.

As expected, grandmother wholly believes in Xuehua when she said that Taotao left to the Lantern Cave. After all, Xuehua is a good and hardworking child that always takes care of that mischevious Taotao. The elderly woman was even proud of Taotao for wanting to train on her own. She thought that her granddaughter finally grew up and stopped with her immature behavior. And so a quiet 3 months went by.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

August came around the corner, and the entire Valley is covered in the scent of apricot flowers. Just as these flowers started to blossom, Xuehua's worry also grew by the day. It has been nearly 2 weeks since the time Taotao said she would be back. She could help but worry. What if she is trapped somewhere? What if she stole someone's food and is forced to work to pay it back? What if she is lost and doesn't remember the path back to the Valley? All these thoughts ran through Xuehua's mind and even prevented her from sleeping at night. So under the crescent moon, Xuehua slipped outside the grand bamboo house without waking a single soul. Making her way to the towering stone entrance, and without hesitation stepped outside the formation and walked through the thick fog into the luscious green forest bordering the Green-Bell Valley.

First time in 20,000 years, Xuehua opened her eyes to the outside world. Under the cover of the night, the entire forest seems to be asleep. Only the sound of the dancing leaves and the wind can be heard. The only light came from the dim moon. Xuehua takes a deep breath to relax. The soft wind carries the scent of rain; rainclouds would be over the green forest soon. Xuehua decided to look for cover tonight and search for Taotao in the morning. Walking almost blindly through a thick forest is not as easy it may seem. She should have bought a lantern, Xuehua internally scolds herself. She steps as lightly as possible, not knowing if any traps where placed. She places her hand up against the large tree in front of her. Xuehua noticed that the trees in this forest didn't have even an ounce of fairy essence, they were cold and strange to the touch. Xuehua shivered, she couldn't understand why Taotao would want to leave the protection of the Valley for such a dead world.

Up ahead, Xuehua notices little flickers of light and decides to walk closer to see a bit better. Suddenly, Xuehua was surrounded by little fireflies emitting a warm, comforting glow. The light calms her heart, and now with the help of the fireflies, she takes a good look around the forest.

She looks ahead, to the sides, and behind her but all she could see are trees. She couldn't find the exit to the forest at all. Xuehua was at a loss and even considered climbing the tall trees to get a better view. I guess I have no choice, she thought, as she removed her outer dress layer to climb a little easier. No one is here anyway. I'll be fast and be down in a second. Xuehua starts to climb the tree, grabbing one branch at a time. When she grabbed onto the third branch, she heard rustling noise below her. Xuehua quickly turned around and looked down. And what she saw was a man dressed in the darkest blue, his handsome face staring up at her with the coldest look. His whole body emits hostility almost like a ferocious beast. But the moment, the fireflies flew near her face, the man's cold look dissolved and is replaced by absolute surprise. Xuehua, now realizing that she is not wearing her outer layer, quickly tries to escape by climbing higher. But because she was in a rush, her right foot didn't land correctly on the branch causing her to slip. Xuehua closed her eyes, and held her breath, waiting for the pain to come. This is just her luck. Taotao, if I find you, I will personally beat you, she thought as she fell. But Xuehue didn't feel any pain. In fact, she felt herself being carried by a pair of strong arms. She slowly opened her eyes and looked at the man who saved her. Her breath was immediately taken away. The man looks even more breathtaking up close, his exquisite features give him a devilish aura. Xuehua was busy admiring this man that she almost didn't notice the celestial essence emitting from his body. Xuehua came to her senses quickly, this man must be a High Immortal, his whole being exudes power. Did she inadvertently offend this immortal by trespassing on his territory? Xuehua didn't know if she should kneel on the ground to apologize and beg for her life- they all say that High Immortals are terrifying when angered. How could she have been so unlucky? Immediately encountering danger when leaving the Valley. Xuehua quickly lowered her head, grandmother once said that looking at a High Immortal directly in the eyes is punishable by death. A million thoughts are running through her head and she was beginning to get a little light-headed, but the High Immortal is still carrying her. Xuehua then noticed that she is missing her outer layer, and all she thought of was how to escape this embarrassing situation.

"Your Eminence, please let this humble one down," Xuehua says in a modest yet dignified manner, not letting her embarrassment show. Afterall she is a woman with a lot of pride. She just needs to act like nothing is wrong, and leave as soon as possible.

"Fei Hong," the immortal finally says, his voice is gentle and light, carrying a sense of longing.

Feihong? Xuehua thought about what he said and believed that the immortal must have mistaken her for someone. She clears her throat. "Your eminence, perhaps you have mistaken me for someone. This humble one is named Xuehua, not Feihong," Xuehua anxiously waited for him to reply. He wouldn't kill her because she corrected him right?

"Look at me," he says, his warm and kind voice, suddenly makes Xuehua deeply regretful of thinking him to be a ferocious High Immortal. No, this man must be someone worshipped across the 36 Heavens, he must be an upright and honest god. After all, he did save her. How could she have let rumors cloud her judgment, besides when did grandmother, who spent her entire life in the Valley, ever meet a High Immortal. The previous cold look must have been due to the lack of light, and the shadows creating an illusion with her mind. With her heart at peace, Xuehua looked up the handsome immortal.
