"DEZIERYA. LISTEN TO ME —said Cyrus—".
"What is this about now?"
"Who's that kid?"
"Wait a minute, isn't that the king's son?" "Wait... who? the murderer?"
"When are we going to have news about the king?"
And so, the Agora was filled with a lot of noise, some murmuring about the kid, some complaining about the whereabouts of their king. Ezio did not show a pleasant face. Hatria was in silent disapproval. But neither of them tried to help the confused Cyrus. After all, it was his primordial and first duty as the upcoming king.
Hatria rolled her empty eyes at Ezio, and this one just remained calm, internally trying to remain calm. It was not over yet, the king had to made an extra effort, but it definetely was not over yet.
Cyrus got dizzy. He forgot how to breathe. His hands were shaking, but he still was there, standing still, trying to catch Dezierya's attention.
"For the love of Hera... am I really worth of this position... they never really liked me... am I... even worth of being alive?... have I done anything good for Dezierya?... have I done anything good for Ezio or Hatria?... I've just been a spoiled brat all my life... nothing else".
"People please! Listen to me for a moment! Hear what I have to say! —he shouted once—".
"Yeah, right! We will hear you over our death bodies".
"We will never hear out a murderer like you! Give us our king back!"
"Ple-please!! —he shouted twice—".
"You should have never been born!"
"Where's princess ——?"
Without knowing, someone had already touch a nerve. There was not a thrice.
"Enough Ezio! He has had enough!"
"Hatria. It is so obvious that you don't know him that well, let's wait a little longer".
"You think so. But he's still just a kid. Not some legendary hero".
"He's more than a legendary hero".
"You give him a little too much credit. You are going to kill him one day".
"You believe so? Yeah, maybe, but... what if it has the total opposite effect?".
"Di-did I hear that right, Ezio? You want to actually kill him?".
"heh... don't mix my words Hatria, people may misunderstand".
"..."
Hatria looked at him. A tenacious smirk came from his lips. She could not say anything else, it didn't feel worth saying it at that point. For Hatria, the only emotion that came from that scene... watching Cyrus and hearing Ezio... was just despair...
The situation was getting more and more out of control. Perhaps it was time for them to retreat... perhaps Cyrus wasn't actually worth a try... but even so, the little prince shed no tears.
The guards were trying their hardest to contain the crowd, Cyrus was trying his best not to panic. And at some point, a glossy object appeared at Cyrus eyes, it was fast, the black death was no more than close to hit the child's face, no one else would notice this action, no one else would help him...
And yet, a shinning ray of hope suddenly appeared before his eyes.
Just a split of second before hitting his sweet cheeks, the sharp knife was blocked by an unknown man.
The tremendous sound of the steel impacting the bronze was more than enough to shout the crowd, and focus on the incident.
The faces of the ones before the two main subjects became astonished. There were no shameful faces whatsoever, and just the fear of getting punished in the name of Hera was so disgraceful to the point that everyone would stop calling you a human being. Then, no one said anything, they were not going to say who was the one that just had attacked the prince.
And the very one man that stood with his shield in front of the boy, showed the face that had been covered by his hoodie to the whole Dezierya and its next king.
"It just had to be him..."
"It's better this way, the situation was getting out of hand".
"Yes, of course I know... but... this is the worst outcome I had in mind, Hatria".
"Why is that?"
"Just... 'cause..."
And the eyes of the main character became full of joy at the sight of the new hero.
"Are you alright my king? —he bowed his head—".
"Ye-yes, thank you".
"It's good to know, my name is Evan son of Kalonimus, and I'll be in your care from now on".
"Wa-wait".
The first time I met Evan, he was really out of this world, he felt like the most powerful being you could find in this planet, someone who would never back down no matter what. He was like a real hero. My hero. I had finally found someone who could protect my innocence.
"DEEZIERYA —he yelled— YOU ALL HAVE DISGRACED THE NAME OF HERA AT THIS POINT, IT DOESN'T MATTER ANYMORE WHO THREW THIS KNIFE HERE... YOU ALL HAVE EQUALLY SIN... AND YOU DON'T DESERVE FORGIVENESS FROM YOUR KING, BECAUSE WANT IT OR NOT, THIS GROWING BOY IN FRONT OF YOUR EYES, IT'S GOING TO BE OUR HOLY KING BY THE END OF THE YEAR... HERA PERSONALLY SPOKE TO ME, SHE SAID TO PROTECT THIS CHILD... AND WHOEVER DARES TO HURT HIM, WELL, I DON'T EVEN NEED TO FINISH THAT SENTENCE...YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED, BEHAVE AND TRY TO SEEK HOPE ALONGSIDE THE GREAT CYRUS... OR PERISH ALONE, AND WE WILL USE YOUR MEAT TO FEED THE POOR ONES".
I was shocked and left with no words. Someone other than Ezio actually stood up for me. It made me feel as if I was needed in reality, and at that critical point I regained my cool, recovered my posture, and changed the look in my eyes. I told to myself "this is it, you need to become a king". And so I did.
"Thank you Evan... now bow".
I hadn't thought much about it, neither I had thought that he was seriously going to do it... and it seems that Dezierya was thinking the same. Because the moment he bowed his head and made a reverence for me. Everyone else imitated the same gesture.
At that moment... I knew... they had aknowledge me as their king...
"Ezio... are you seeing that?"
"I'm not blind Hatria, now it's also time for us to bow".
