In the interest of time, a few events in the original outline of Harriers will be glossed over. While they are an important subplot to the story, there are topics that I’d like to explore in more depth than I can presently commit. So I will simply include a brief explanation of what would be taking place in this section of the narrative and then finish the rest of the story as intended.
To begin, you must remember the characters James and Lyn. James is my representation of overly-confident white males in this story. He believes that he is owed a chance that he certainly has not earned with Wilona. He is attracted to her simply because she is out of his reach. I could dive into how he is also longing to be a smarter, more engaged person and that is manifesting in his interest but that’s a harder concept to put into a character without more time spent on him.
Lyn is the former friend of Wilona and Edmund. The reason for the falling out I hadn’t quite established but the reason for Lyn coming back was going to be because of a conversation she would have with Odi.
In James’ fervor of rejection, he writes a note for Sara and Pod to come to Huber late one night. In the letter, he plays on Sara’s fear that something might happen to Odi at Huber because class and race differences. When Odi doesn’t answer his phone (because he’s with Wilona at the time) they become worried and take the bait.
When they arrive, they find a window has been smashed in and several lockers broken open. Smelling a trap, they try to flee but are caught by campus police.
Because of the perceived violation by members of a public school, those who do not attend Huber are banned from joining in events on Campus. (This includes Prom, which Odi and Wilona had just agreed to attend together.)
Guessing the culprits, Odi confronts Sara and Pod and they fight. Odi goes to Wilona for comfort.
As recompense, Sara, Pod, Edmund, and Lyn throw together a mini-prom. This helps but there is the lingering question of who framed them, though Edmund has his suspicions.
So there you have it. Now back to your regularly unscheduled updates,
