Lucas waved bye as Dani hurried out the door. He smiles and looks at me whilst I finished my coffee, “Does your sister like someone?” I choked slightly with my coffee as he asked and he just glares at me, “I’m serious David-“ I clean my mouth as he kept on talking. I didn’t know if I should tell him but I decided to just hint it that she’s not interested. If I lied and said ‘oh no she doesn’t like anyone, she’s all yours!~’ I would be hurting him and maybe… maybe myself. I nod in response and his face goes down a little. It hurt seeing him that way but I couldn’t lie to him and just give him false hopes.
“There might be better people out there.” I tell him, trying to comfort him in any way I could.
He simply nods and looks somewhat depressed, “yeah, you’re right.”
The room now is very silent and you could feel how awkward everything was. It was just me and Lucas in that room, not saying anything to each other.
As I tried to break the silence, I lift up my mug and cheerily smile at him “You made good coffee and food, ‘ya te puedes casar’” I tell him as I get up to serve myself some more coffee.
He was confused since, well, he didn’t know spanish, “What did you say after the food part?” he questioned me.
“‘Ya te puedes casar’- you can get married now, something my hispanics relative say.” I tell him. All he does is just chuckle. I smile slightly and keep drinking from my coffee.
He later decides to get up and walks around the living room. He stops in front of this grand piano my sister let me bring to her house when I first moved in with her. He takes a look and puts his fingers on top of some keys, not pressing on them.
“You play piano, don’t you?”
I do, well did.
“You should play something for me one day.” He looks up at me and smiles, “You’re sister told me how when you play, you would just go to this other world and let all your feelings out.”
I look down, not really knowing how to reply.
I stopped playing piano after an incident, you could say, happened to me. After that moment I had lost all interest in things I enjoyed, things like playing the piano, jogging in the morning, school. I dropped out of the most greatest school because I was just too scared to get back to that one room, the room where I was hurt from being myself.
Lucas soon noticed how talking about the piano made me somewhat uncomfortable. He apologizes and thinks for seconds on how to change the subject.
