They say ignorance is bliss. Whoever they are, made it to the top of my appreciation list.
"See you soon Liam," Gus said, walking away with the evil pair. I'm not sure about Yvonne but her hanging around with that Medusa of a woman made her plainly distasteful to me.
"So, where to now?" I asked Liam, putting my coat on. "Thanks, Jade."
"Hope to see you again," he replied, flashing a neat set of whites.
"May I know where we are heading?" I asked again, trying to catch up with him. To my utter surprise, he kept walking and barely said a word. What was his deal? I walked beside him, struggled to keep his pace but never fell a step behind.
I was satisfied and couldn't care less about anything else. The table had fallen silent right after the food was placed before us and I simply ate to my fill. Yvonne was right, we were close to starving. I ate so much I struggled to get up once we were done!
We were back at the in-between in no time and I took a seat right after he did. I untied my laces, slipped off my Converse, and began massaging my aching feet.
"How dare you!" Liam began, his tone flat and unendearing.
"How dare I what?" I asked back, still massaging my feet.
"I asked you not to say a word, not to answer back yet, you ran your mouth like you were being paid!"
"I'm sorry," I replied. "I didn't know I was supposed to sit back and take the insults your oh so precious Samantha dished out as if I deserved them!"
"I warned you about that! I told you to be careful of all the other reapers, especially the two, didn't I?" Liam yelled. If he wanted to have a competition on who could scream louder, he'd just picked a fight he was about to lose!
"Oh, did you now?" I said, getting off my seat. "Did you warn me that your sweet Samantha and you have quite the chemistry together? Did you warn me that she has her claws dug so deep into you that you can barely breathe right? DID you care to inform me that you fear her, that you simply never stop whatever she does because you're afraid of how she'd retaliate? Did you warn me that she is fucking Queen of the reapers?"
I was panting and pretty sure my nose was flaring. I'd seen women like her when I was alive, people like her to be exact. Humans who simply craved to rule others, be the top dogs of this meager world we live in and for what?
I could see it in his eyes, I'd hit a nerve. He stared at me, clenching and unclenching his fists.
"I'm not worried about her, not one bit. You want to know why? Ignorance my friend, is pure bliss," I took my seat and pulled my legs up. "I have no idea what she is capable of or better yet, who she is so, I'll play that card and live freely until I find out."
"You're naive," He spat.
"You're a wimpy reaper," I challenged. I'd pulled the last straw. Liam stood up, walked across the room, and took one last glance at me before he vanished.
Go ahead, leave. Run with your tail between your legs and never come back. What do I need you for anyway if I can't be as blunt with you as you are with me!
