KAI POV
As we climbed into the bus, Misaki led us to two open seats and sat down. I sat too. Waiting for him to start explaining how he knew me and Takahiro, which was kind of awkward since the bus was pretty much vacant and completely silent. I don't understand this dude, super outgoing one second and shy the next.
At this point, I was getting slightly annoyed listening only to the sounds of the bus' rattling so I decided to start the conversation. "So, what were you going to 'tell me on the way'?" I said with air quotes. He turned to face me so that we were now making eye contact.
"Ah, sorry. I just spaced out a little. Takahiro-senpai is in basketball club with me. Ha, you should've seen him the day he found out you were coming back. We had a home practice game and right before we started, Yumi-senpai barged into the gym yelling at Takahiro-senpai to check his phone or somethin'. He excused himself from the gym and came back with his game face on. And it honestly scared everyone. Safe to say that was his best game; practice or not. But the next day he explained to us that you were returning, and from that day on he wouldn't shut up about you." Misaki explained to me.
"That idiot." I said as I let out an amused chuckle. "But what amazes me is the fact that he's in a sports club, he used to hate sports."
Misaki looked back at me in bewilderment. "That is one unbelievable statement, but I won't argue with you. You did know him before everyone else. But the reason I said it was unbelievable is because Takahiro-senpai seems to love basketball. He's also probably our strongest player and the fact that he's our captain surely helps."
"Wow," I said suprised then looked down at my bag that was now laying on my lap, "I guess he really did change."
Misaki looked at me with pity in his eyes. Well, I would've done the same thing, I said it in a pretty depressing tone.
I looked back up at him and vigorously shook my hands. "I-I mean, I think it's good for him, ya know. He wasn't the most social when we were younger. He would only hang out with his sister and I no matter how many requests he got from others. But I guess with Yumi in different classes and . . . with me not around, It gave him a chance to break out of his shell and meet new people. I'm really glad that he's joining clubs and making new friends." I gave a quick smile.
Moments later, the bus slowed down as we reach the school. The brakes screeching as we pull to a complete stop.
I look out the window to see my new high school, my new life. Filled with people that I don't know. As soon as my negative thoughts were about to consume me, Misaki gently pulled me out of them.
"It's okay. You're gonna like it here." He reassured.
I know I should just take his word for it, but the anxiety is still getting to me. I unconsciously nod and walk off the bus, Misaki following. I walk through the front gates but stop as soon as I notice the two people I've waited years to see.
"Takahiro! Yumi!" I shouted as I sprint towards them. Trying to keep my tears in.
"KAI!" The twins said in unison, stretching their arms out; waiting for me to run into them.
When I finally reach them, I try my best to pull them into a tight hug but it's kinda hard when they're both taller than you. They softly laugh and wrap their arms around me and each other.
After about 30 seconds of staying in each other's embrace, I spoke, "I really missed you guys." I tried my best to make my words sound as shake-free as possible.
"We missed you too." Yumi whispered
Takahiro joined in. "Welcome back."
