Cosmic Angel of Science

Cosmic Angel of Science

Dec 17, 2018

- Have you seen all the icons?

- ...

- Have you read all the books?

- ...

- I've seen them all. I've read them all.

- You could not.

- Right there - on Earth! I'm telling you!

- There is no Earth. Only we.

- Cosmic angels of science! I've seen one once!

- Where?

- I... I don't remmember.

- ...

- They will come for us!

- They will never.

- How can you know. I'll be waiting for them untill I die!

- You cannot die. Have you forget.

- What do you mean?

- Oh... Again...

- They are the purest creatures of highest virtues. Saints in white coats build their wings and teach them the wisdoms of Universe...

- ...

- Wait... What's that...

- What?

- Listen...

- What?

- Is there someone else in here with us?

- In hear?

- Yes, in this... thing, we're incapsulated within. It's... our spaceship.

- What do you mean by "spaceship"?

- Sh! Here, again... The voice from the depth of the ship. I don't like it

-...

- No, make it stop.

-...

- It want's do tell us...

- Tell what?

- Tru... No! Shut the hatch! It's an alien life form! Hostile lifeform!

- The hatch is shut...

- Turn the biotic sterilizer power to 11 and beam exposure time to 10 No! 30. Start it now!

- Turn what? Calm down.

- Oh no! Oh no no no! It sips right through! The seal is damaged! The beam is useless. The voice is here! It tells us! It tells us everything!!!

- Damn... you're right...

...

Человек Мира-1 (The Man of World-1) was the first and the last experimental launch of the immortal human modificant into open space as potential ultimate soviet cosmonaut. Soon ater the life support cable has snapped during the space craft repair procedure the radio connection with the subject was lost.

By the assumptions of scientist after expending all available supply of oxygen, the subject will experience phisical death. Nevertheless, his conscience will remain mostly functional, burried deep within his brain  even at the extremely low energy levels. They say, preserved by freezing conditions of space, his body will be drifting across the universe for millions of years...

...

For a moment the cosmic angel of scince was almost able to feel a warm beam of light emited from not so distant star, as all of it's photons were making their way through the shear glass of his frozen eyeballs straight to the bottom. His eyes froze open long time ago. A familiar feeling glimpsed within his body for a brief moment, and then...

Then the dialog started all over again.

This piece inspired by one old soviet book I'm reading at the moment. It was published in year 1982, before Chernobyl disaster and before Aral see turned into Aral dessert because at soviet times two main rivers that were feeding it were taken out for irrigating Karakum dessert (to produce cotton). The book is called "Chasing the time" and it mainly tells about science revolution guided by communist society is supposed to lead us all to bright future on Earth and beyond the edge of open space.
The book features a lot of rather nice pictures of "new" janre of painting called "science fiction". One funny thing I noticed is that, despite all the anty-religious propaganda, some pictures feel a lot like sort of icons, where famous engineers and scintist are the saints, and cosmonauts in their virgin white suits flying above all in weightlesness are - pure angels - cosmic angels of science.

It reminded me a couple of old sci-fi stories... uggh, since they seems to be not well-known, I can't find them anywhere >:-(((
