Kathryn's POV
"Kathryn! You're burning up. Oh my gosh you're sweating so much!" I heard a faint voice say. I slowly opened my eyes and attempted to sit up. "S-Sorry. I'll get up." I said scratchily. "No. You need to rest. You clearly aren't doing well." The voice said, as I felt myself being laid back down.
Skylar's POV
Kathryn was clearly sick and didn't seem to recognize who I was. I had stepped out of her bedroom and was calling Anthony. "H-Hello? Sky? Why are you calling so early in the morning?" He said. "S-Sorry. I just wanted to tell you that Kat and I won't be hanging out with you and Mad today." I said, feeling kinda bad for calling at six in the morning on a Saturday. "W-Why? Did something happen?" Anthony said, with a worried tone. "Y-Yeah. Kathryn seems to have caught a pretty bad cold. That's all. It's nothing major." I said, trying to sound casual. "Do you need help with anything?" He asked. "No...I don't think so. I'll contact you if I do. Can you tell Mad for me?" I said. "Yeah. Sure and please do contact me if it comes to that." He said. "Okay. Thanks." I said, before ending the call.
Kathryn's POV
I could hear distant talking. "I'm back, Kat." The voice said to me. "Oh. Okay." I replied, my vision quite blurry. I felt a cold cloth get placed on my forehead. "Th-Thank you." I said, even though I wasn't sure who it was. Why can I not think straight? My head was pounding, and I honestly did feel quite horrible. Even the simplest things, I couldn't remember.
Skylar's POV
I took a seat on the edge of Kat's bed. She looked exhausted and completely worn down. This wasn't normal for Kathryn. Was this really just a minor cold? As I lay on my back, staring up at the ceiling, I felt arms wrap around me. "H-Hey. Sky?" Kat said quietly. "Y-Yes?" I said, turning my head to face her. "I-I'm sorry for always causing you problems, b-but thank you for caring for me." She said, with her eyes closed. "H-Huh? Problems? You aren't causing me any problems, Kat. And I will always be here to care for you, so there's no reason for you to thank me." I said. "You make me sound so helpless..." Kat quietly said, her head looking down. "Aww, you aren't helpless. I think that makes you cute." I said, with a chuckle and smile. "Cu-Cute!? Me!?" Kathryn said, her head shooting up to look at mine. "Y-Yeah... I think it's cute that you need someone to be with you." I said, beginning to feel a little flustered. Before I knew it, Kathryn was straddled over me. "Really? Me? Cute? You must be kidding." She said as her face was hanging over mine. "I'm not kidding, Kat." I replied, with a serious face. She leaned closer, her face almost against mine. "A-Are you really serious?" She said. My eyes widened as I felt tears fall onto my face. Why was she crying? Did I say something wrong? It was true that I thought her need for people was cute. There was nothing that would make me think otherwise.
Kathryn's POV
Skylar sat up, grasping me in a hug. "H-Hey...Kat?" She said quietly, into my ear. "Y-Yes?" I replied nervously. "I would never joke about thinking your cute. I think your personality makes you unique." She said. I felt my eyes widen at what she said.
Skylar's POV
I felt as Kathryn wrapped her arms around me. "You've always been too kind to me. It makes me feel like I'm using you." She said quietly, into my ear. "You're not using me. I would never have thought of it like that. I'd consider it more like doing something to help my friend." I replied, trying to make Kathryn feel not as bad. "H-Hey. Sky?" Kathryn whispered, into my ear. "Yes Kat?" I said quietly back. "I love you." She whispered into my ear. Surprised at first, I replied, "I-I love you too." She slowly pulled away from the hug and gave me a quick peck on the lips. What will happen next? Will these to childhood besties become more than friends?
