Minho:
Ben and I had started running bright and earlier this morning. We wanted to get a head start at the maze before the bonfire. We ran through the endless corridors of the maze, the vines getting thicker and thicker the rather in. There were no exits, no doors nothing.
As we were running, cutting down the vines, and taking notes we came upon a set of footprints and messed up vines.
“Where do you think these came from?” I asked Ben
“They could be ours,” he said
“But I don’t think that we ever came this way.”
“They could be ours from a different day since we usually sit around here.”
“But they could be-” but I was cut off before I could finish
“No no more but this or that. They are most likely ours so just shut up.”
“Okay, I guess.” I said still kinda skeptical about them, “Well let's keep moving.”
Ben nodded and we continued on our way running and taking notes. When our watches read twelve o'clock, which wasn’t much later from where we had just stopped at, Ben stopped. He sat down on the ground opening his backpack and pulling out his lunch. I turned and looked at his shocked that he was already eaten. We usually ate at one or two o’clock.
“What the shuck are you doing!” I yelled at him angry that he was already eating.
“I’m sitting down to eat my food.”
“But we haven’t even been out here that long!” I was getting angrier and angrier
“I don’t care, I am hungry now. Let me eat!”
“You are so shucking annoying! Why do you have to do this!”
I stopped before I got to mad or started yelling too much and took a big breath in calming down. I took a few minutes before I looked at him again. He was still just eating. I turned around looking down the corridor, but one of the turns I could’ve sworn I saw something disappear behind it. I couldn’t draw my attention away thinking that something might appear. It was like a nagging feeling that was seeping into my head telling me to go over and investigate.
I continued to look for a few more minutes waiting for anything that would appear. After several minutes nothing happened and I looked away.
I shook it off the feeling and looked back at Ben as he said the eating his food.
“Hey!” I shouted at him, “Ben are you done eating yet!”
“I guess,” he said packing his stuff up.
He pulled his notes out and a pencil and we began to run again. He turned the corner and I ran straight into someone. I stumbled back and the person fell down letting out a grunt. I looked down and saw a girl. It was a girl! I started down shocked. She crawled over to somewhere grabbing and bag before running off. It took me a minute before I realized what was going on,
“Hey, Wait I just want to talk!” I shouted after her, but she didn’t stop in fact she went faster, “Please just stop! I just want to talk!”
“Just leave me alone!” she shouted her voice cracking and rough like she hadn’t talked in a long time. She turned her head to look at us and then her eyes widened. Then everything fell apart.
The sound of a griever suddenly came. I could hear the scrapping of its needles on the ground and it coming this way.
“Move!” The girl shouted.
“What-” Ben started but before he could finish he saw the griever. His face changed to fear and he tripped falling on his face, which would’ve been funny in any other situation.
“RUN!!” I yelled at the girl. I didn’t want to risk getting her stung even if it might be the last time I would see her.
“Get her out of here! We don’t want her to get hurt! Go now!” Ben shouted at me.
I looked at him shocked. He never would say something like that unless it was the only thing that he could do. I started to move over to him but he shook his head. I turned and ran at the girl grabbing her wrist and then pulled her behind me.
I ran with her but before we could get too far she yanked her arm out of my hand. She ran at the griever. I felt my heart speed up. I couldn’t risk her getting hurt. I turned around and started to run after the girl but froze.
She was standing right next to the griever. Her eyes looking straight at it. How could this go any worse?
“Hey you, get away from the griever.” I yelled at her but she didn’t do anything, “don’t be stupid. Get away from it now.”
She reached her hand up going to touch it. My heart felt like it stopped. Her hand rested against the griever's skin. She looked back at us with determination in her eyes. There was no fear, no fright.
“Please just leave me alone,” she said before she climbed on top of the griever. Then they were gone, both the griever and her. They were gone without a trace.
~Time Skip~
We got back to the Glade without any other issues. We didn’t see that girl again and we didn’t see another griever. We came back in heading straight to the map room. We mapped out anything new we found and put all our stuff down. Then off to dinner.
We got our dinner, it was hamburgers and sat down. Neither one of us were talking. The room was filled with talking teens but we just sat there.
“Minho, who was that person?” Ben asked without looking at me.
“I have no idea.”
“Should we tell Newt?”
“Tell me what?” said a voice from behind us
“Oh, nothing,” I said trying to cover up the fact we were hiding something
“Well, it is obviously something.”
“Nah, we were just talking about-” I faltered, but Ben jumped in a covered for me, “About a griever we saw today.”
“Out in daylight!”
“Yes,” Ben said picking at his food.
“I should go tell Alby,” Newt said before walking off.
“I feel bad lying to him,” Ben said
“Me too but it won’t be good if he finds out.”
“How long till we tell him?”
“Until we find that girl,” I said going back to eating my food.’
We didn’t talk again. Once we finished our food we headed to the bonfire and just hung out having fun. Neither one of us talked about the girl. Tonight we had fun.
Tomorrow we look for that girl.
