Fletch turned my back to him and he cut the rope. “Oi!!!” Fletch said walking toward the group of boys who turned at his shout. “Fletch don’t do this!!!” I shouted as he walked toward them I stumbled and fell “you can barely walk yet you defend them.” Fletch grabbed the lead boy and easily carried him under his arm “is there a law or punishment for an assault such as this?” I managed to stand and I looked to Fletch “some time, with law enforcement,” I walked toward Fletch “if you go there the police will remove your cloak and you don’t want that.” Fletch dropped the kid and turned to him and the kid punched him “what is the law for self-defense?” I grabbed his cloak “let’s just go already your bandages need to be changed so it doesn’t get infected.” I felt everything go in and out as I struggled to stand, “small? Small your blood burst is really big.” Fletch caught me as I fell and he looked to me with worried eyes, “damn it Small please do not die.” I brushed off Fletch’s grasp and stood “I am not dying you, idiot. I might pass out like sleep but not die,” I stood and pointed toward the CVS “let's go get the bandages and stuff the building with the big red letters that say CVS.” the group of boys left after the lead one had bailed after his punch did nothing, the others followed. Fletch and I walked to the CVS as I staggered when we got in there a woman gasped and the cashier ran to us. “Oh my God are you okay” the man held my arm and Fletch threw off his arm I smacked Fletch “damn it Fletch I told you not to touch anything!” I looked to the cashier “call an ambulance.” I grabbed the man and glared him down “oh no you don’t I don’t want the bill going to my house,” the man put up his hands “I need bandages and anti-bacterial pills and wipes, bandage wraps and something for fire burns that is safe for deep- deep wounds.” The man nodded and raced around the store and Fletch held my arm as my legs slowly went out from under me. “Small you need help,” I scoffed remembering far worse times of beatings and embarrassment. “We need to take care of your face before anything,” the man came back with a few boxes of different things looking to them I told him to grab more. Leaving with four bags of different medical care for Fletch I helped him in the bathroom of Walmart. It wasn’t easy but I did the best I could and after I was told I caught a glimpse of my reflection and stared into it my hair was torn and all over the place my neck was bruised and my face was black and blue. My nose leaked blood and so did my mouth, my face hurt and so did my chest, I lifted the remaining part of my shirt to see a lump by my rib cage and a bruise surrounding it hurt so bad and even the cloth touching it sent my body crying and groaning. “We should take care of your wounds,” Fletch gently touched my back and brought me to him as I dropped my shirt he took care of the cuts and my nose and mouth. “Do you have any more wounds?” he lifted my shirt and I pulled it down he pain filled my body and I struggled not to cry out in pain. “You have a blood burst,” I waved my hand at him “it’s called a bruise, not blood burst,” I walked out the bathroom and a policeman stood with a policewoman I pushed Fletch back and I closed the door behind me as I looked to the cops “we got a report saying a wounded child was stumbling around with a man in a cloak…” I shrugged and walked on they followed and cut me off “you could talk to me for hours and I still wouldn’t tell you how did this and if I refuse to press charges then nothing happens so let me save your time. No, I am not going down the station to talk about this. No, I am not doing anything illegal. No, my family did not do this. No, I am not on drugs and no I was not mugged or beaten on a random attack. And yes, I do know I am letting them get away with doing this to me. Do you have any other requests” the man sighed and gestured for me to walk I stood strong and he walked away I opened the bathroom door and Fletch came out “keep your head down and do not talk or touch anything law enforcement is here.” Fletch looked up and saw the cops and walked to them they place a hand on their guns and watched as he went to them. “I know who attacked him,” I grabbed him and pulled him to my level “ see those things on their waist those are weapons if you make one wrong move you will not be able to move because of a bolt of lightning with fill your body. Or they could spray spices into your eyes. They don’t know you and think you are trying to hurt me do you want to be attacked.” Fletch scoffed and bushed off my hand “last time I listened to you it didn't work.” Fletch threw off my grasp and walked to the cops, “If I describe the people who beat the small will you allow me to keep my cloak and not take me away from the small.” the cops looked at each other “would you go to the station?” Fletch shook his head and I pulled on his cloak “Fletch you better stop.” I said whispering as the cops watched Fletch and me, “I will not,” the cops spoke to each other and I grabbed Fletch and looked him in the eye “are you crazy you are just asking to be chained up like some dog.” I held a bag of medical supplies in my hand and Fletch also held two bags. “Let’s take this outside,” we followed the cops outside and we went and I got dizzy and stumbled and tripped Fletch caught me my body cried and I thrashed out of his grasp and my hands clung to my ribs. The cops kneeled down and patted my shoulder “is your blood burst, bothering you” I stood “I am not feeling well we will get back to you about what happened okay.” the cops nodded and handed me a card I took it and walked back to the woods. When we got to the woods and my cave I laid Fletch down and I tended to my wounds as I gave him a book to read out loud to practice his English. There was a pause “He ran his fingers down my body as my body turned hot and I could feel as his hand crept down further my hot body screamed for more and his tongue swirled with mine.” I turned to him and found him reading one of my gay books I tore it from his grasp and he smiled. “So you find other men attractive why should it matter?” I closed the book and put it in its right place away from Fletch. “Some people are just small minded.” I said as I sat down next to him, he patted my back and I felt the pain in ribs, “I think I broke a rib…” I said holding my ribs Fletch looked to me confused “I have yet to fully understand the human language could you explain what a bib is?” I sighed and lifted my shirt gently, “this lump is a bone that protects my heart, it is broken.” Fletch looked to my wound and sighed “can we not take you to a healer?”I shook my head knowing my father would be rather upset with the bill. “Why not your bone could poke a hole in your lungs?” I took off my shirt grabbing another shirt from my backpack, “if I go to the hospital then my abusive family with be called and that would make them upset.” Fletch looked to me with worried eyes “so if a healer was taken to you without anyone knowing it would be okay?” I paused and waved my hand “yeah I guess if they were willing to do it for free.” I put the new shirt on and sighed putting on my hoodie and laying in the bed. Fletch groaned and fell back holding his eye, I sat up as he spoke in a different language as the sound of sizzling echoed over his groans. Fire burst out Fletch screamed and thrashed around. I stumbled back and got my water bottle emptying it as I pulled him to me, the fire fizzled and went out Fletch said trying to catch his breath “He is trying to kill me… you must run if you aid me you will also die alongside me.” I tended to his wounds and had the machete beside me Fletch passed out and I did the best I could with his wounds and got him on the bed. Night came and I laid next to him not wanting to lay on the cold wet dirt, I sighed at the day’s events and slowly fell asleep. When I woke up I was cuddled up to a white wolf its fur was long, soft, untangled and reeked of smoke, his muzzle faded to black as did his tail. I felt my ribs cry out as I barely moved, I winced and decided to stand up slowly when I managed to stand I got things ready to tend to Fletch’s wounds. I turned the wolves face to me and saw yellow-brown pus on the wound, I cleaned it and tended to it daily for three days I refused to leave his side for more than a half hour. I got fish from the pond nearby and gave him water every now and then as for energy and food I gave him Gatorade I had in my bag. Worried he would choke and die if I gave him food so I stuck with liquids soup and oatmeal from a store. I watched as over a span of a week nothing seemed to change I was able to do most of my work for school on my phone and come up with an excuse. As for my father, his harsh words filled my messages and voice mail, before I knew it a month passed. I looked over his wolf body and fear filled my body and I gently stroked his body “Fletch hey bud it’s time to really get up.” Pain filled my body my ribs still filled with pain and worry filled me that I would be like this until I got help. I sat next to the bed and his head moved onto my lap, his eyes opened and a smile filled his face and he slowly transformed. He touched my face and looked around smelling the air, “how long was I asleep?” he said sitting up and rubbing his head he slowly stood and stretched “about a month you had a bad infection some days you struggled to breathe and I thought you were going to die…” he turned and looked to me he lowered his head and took a knee. He spoke a strange language and looked me in the eye “I owe you a life debt I will serve you until I die.” He stood and grabbed my hand “What are you doing?” he led to me to the mouth of the cave, “I am taking you to a healer I will not let you die whether you want to or not I am taking you to a healer.” I walked with him his death grip on my arm as he walked the streets he walked up to a huge guy walking a huge dog. The dog barked as we got closer “excuse me male big,” Fletch said waving to the man as he went to him dragging me with him. “Oi keep your distance he ain’t the friendliest,” Fletch looked to the dog and went level with it his cloak on so only the dog could see his face. Fletch spoke a strange language and held out his hand the dog bit it and Fletch didn’t react, the dog held down on his hand Fletch spoke to him and the dog sniffed him and let go and licked him. The dog sat and lowered its head Fletch patted it’s head and spoke to him gestured to his owner and to the dog than himself. The dog listened as if he could understand he went to the side of his owner and Fletch stood “He should be a bit more well behaved but I would avoid having him around the female of the house and spend more time with him. Anyway, I need a healer my small is wounded a broken bone cage.” I facepalmed and grabbed his head “sorry he is not from here,” I pulled on his arm and he brushed away my hand “I don’t know the words but that doesn’t mean I will leave this to you it’s my job to keep you safe and I have failed I should have trusted instinct and saved you.” Fletch looked to the man he looked at me confused by his words “I understand what you mean a hospital or doctor… down that road a few miles and follow the blue signs with a big H.” Fletch smiled and grabbed my hand “thank you man big.” Fletch picked me up and ran following the directions of the man. When we finally got there Fletch was panting he still ran he burst through the door and I thrashed around and escaped his grasp. “Small no you need a doc door, and a hos spit.” Fletch grabbed me and looked to the signs he saw a nurse and handed me to the woman “my small is hurt a broken cage of ribs,” I stood and looked to the woman “sorry he thinks my bruise is this huge big deal his English isn’t great so it’s been hard trying to tell him nothing is wrong.” The woman looked at me than to Fletch “he seems really worried.” Fletch shook his head “I know what I am saying the cage of the bones protecting the heart is broken, the blood burst… Bruise and lump!” I grabbed him by his hand and pulled him away “I am really sorry he is really confused.” I said grabbing his cloak, Fletch grabbed me looked at me “I am not you are my small and you are hurt I owe you my life I do not know the human medical system.” Fletch looked to the ground and then to the woman “I need a doc door and a hos spit,” I violently shook my head no and she looked to Fletch a cop walked up to Fletch and stood by the nurse. “Is there a problem?”
