Fletch came through the door and clung to me wrapping his arms around me tears streamed down my face Fletch grabbed my hands and pulled my head to his chest. Rocking me back and forth as the world began to slowly become stable, tears dried on my face as I became numb the sound of Fletch singing was like background noise to my heart. “Mom,” I said pulling my hands to my chest the wave of my mother’s death came over me yet again. Fletch rocked me in the corner of the room the whole night even when I woke up he was still rocking me back and forth. “Fletch can I be alone for a bit?” I said rubbing my tired eyes. Fletch slowly stood picking me up and putting me on my bed and rubbed my head and he gave it a kiss and laid the blankets on me. I sat there waiting for the world to just stop I listened to my heart. Time slowly passed and I got ready for school. I looked around the house and couldn’t find Fletch I ran outside to find him sweating and holding a sword swinging it and having a brick on his head. “I have a surprise,” I said knowing how excited he would be to able to go to school with me, “What is it?” he stared into my eyes as he lowered the blade “You are coming to school with me.” Fletch smiled and set down the blade and took the brick from his head .“What?! When do we leave? What should I wear?” I chuckled as I watched him question me the questions went right over my head as I was lost in his smile and utter joy that filled his eye. We got him ready and he stood his in the suit and began to punch the air and smiled as it withheld as if the day ahead of him was going to be filled with crazy adventure. I managed to brush his hair and tie it back into a loose ponytail and he seemed to enjoy it, fluffing his bangs over the scar on his face and smiling as I took a step back. Going to the bus stop and catching it right as it came, I got on the bus and Fletch followed the bus driver scoffed as we sat down a few kids watched confused “What is this called?” Fletch said looking around and looking to each kid as we passed filled seats “A school bus it takes smalls from one place to school and then back. Some bigs don’t have time to take their smalls to school.” Flect sat next to me and had the window seat he enjoyed watching the word as we flew by it, other kids began to ask questions “Who is that?” I gestured to Fletch “This is a friend of mine his name is Fletch and well he is now my bodyguard.” Fletch nodded and looked to the one who asked the question “I guard the body,” I chuckled as he went back to looking out the window. “His first language is not English.” After a few stupid questions they finally left us alone getting off the bus was hard with Fletch because he just stood and pushed everyone, after I gave him a talk about how buses worked and how you should get off. One of my teachers came to me and looked to Fletch “Nice to see you again,” Fletch shook his hand and nodded not really remembering who he was sniffing the air he then remembered and we continued on giving Fletch a tour and I gave a rundown of the school and making a plan for if he ever got lost he was to go to the front office and if he needed to ask help he could. I went to my first class and sat down the teacher gave me and Fletch new seats so that eww sat right next to each other and I was moved next to another student he was on the lower grade levels and the teacher thought it would be good for her to sit next to him so I could help her. I waited to the bell rang and when it did Fletch rubbed his ears and groaned slightly. I rubbed his back and watched as the students flooded in, the ones that knew me as being gay or the kid who always looked beat up stared me down and chuckled at my return and the fact that this human sexy guy was beside me. I saw a girl look at me then go to the teacher after a while of whisper she came over and sat down. “My name is Marie Jones yes the most of the rumors you have heard about me are true.” She threw down her bag and sat down with a thud leaning back his chair. “I am Gale and this is Fletch.” I gestured to Fletch and he looked to Marie she looked at me and scanned me “you are that gay kid?” I nodded and she looked to Fletch “This your boyfriend?” Fletch sighed and groaned “sadly no” Fletch said rubbing his neck I shook my head “no he is my bodyguard.” Fletch looked to the students as they walked in “Careful she might fuck you and steal all your shit.” A guy said patting on the table in front of Fletch, Fletch looked at me confused “I do not understand Gale what does he mean?” I facepalmed and sighing explaining to Fletch what fuck meant and how it could be used in different ways Marie even helped and after the class had started. It was an easy assignment and I easily did mine while Marie took out her phone and began to text someone chatter filled the room as students began to finish or push away the assignment. I sighed and tapped the table “Just get it over with.” She looked at me and then the paper the phone went off ringing and she stood, “My mom is calling.” She said looking to the teacher as she walked out. I sighed and laid my head on the desk, Fletch patted my back “Small what is wrong?” I sat back up and looked around the classroom a few flirty people, I thought about last night and rubbed my head.“Small could you walk me through this?” Fletch said looking over my worksheet confused when I started to explain it he didn’t seem to really be listening to what I was saying, just staring into my eyes. Marie came back with a few minutes of class left. She sat down and she seemed to be filled with smiled “That was quite a long talk with a mom you find someone to fuck on the way out the door?” a boy said as she walked past him “You just want to jerk off to a pretty girl fucking someone better looking than you.” Marie sat down and Fletch looked to her “What does to jerk off mean?” Fletch said it rather loudly and I rubbed the bridge of my nose. I handed him my phone and told him to type it into google and moments later he set down the phone and just sat there. “Humans are rather gross…” I chuckled and Marie looked to me confused “Why did you say ‘humans’ like that?” I waved my hand having Marie on my side and Fletch on the end of the table I told her he wasn’t from around here and she rubbed her wrists. “He single?” I tapped Fletch and gestured for her to ask him herself, “Where are you from Fletch I have a friend of mine looking for a foreign man.” She had her phone at the ready Fletch looked to me “What does Foreign man mean?” I gestured to Fletch “Someone who is not from here.” Fletch nodded “I am from the mountains I was raised by more down to earth people.” Marie began to type and snapped a pic of Fletch, “so are you single?” Fletch paused and looked at me and froze “I am confused… I am only one person so yes I am single.” I then explained what she meant and he looked at me, “what is the label I use if I like someone but they refuse me?” Marie frowned “brokenhearted.” Fletch clenches his chest “My heart has been broken.” Marie made me switch seats with me and I stood dumbfounded and she patted his shoulder “Tell me how you feel when they reject you sometimes talking with someone can make it feel better.” Fletch clenches his chest and looked to Marie “My chest feels heavy every time I am pushed away by them. And I feel mad and sad when other men touch the one I like, a simple thing such as a hand on a shoulder makes my chest fill with and drop. My stomach turns and thrashing around when I am away, every moment digs its nails deeper into my skull, as it drags by without them.” Maire rested her arm on Fletch and rubbed his back I thought about the person who could push him away he is so funny, strong and just so honest about everything. I felt my heart drop as I looked to Fletch his face and smiling face was gone and I opened my mouth to say something then shut it. “What do they look like?” Fletch clenched his fist, Maire sighed and looked to her phone as it went off, “What if I give you a number of a friend of mine to get your mind off your broken heart.” Fletch shook his head “Their smile is what gets me through each day I never want to get my mind off its smile and its light it puts in my heart.” Maire smiled and rubbed his hand, “I will show you who caught my heart.” She flipped through her phone and showed Fletch a photo of a man with short black hair and a bare chest and fit body. “His name is Simon,” Fletch looked up and looked to the screen and sighed, “I thought you said SIM that scared me.” Fletch tapped his chest and took a breathe, “who is SIM?” Fletch looked to Marie “Do you have paper and a pencil?” She nodded and handed him a pencil and paper. I leaned over and watched as he drew SIM, a person stood a mask over their mouth and a chunk of their shoulder gone. It wore a loose shirt that was torn and worn at the bottom their pants was worn as was the shirt. A horn came from the side of their head and curly hair flowed around it, “What happened to their arm?” Fletch sighed and looked down “it was my fault it chewed off its own arm.” Maire looked to it as if it was from some sick story of a sort but in fact, it was a real thing, “Fletch that's enough.” Fletch nodded and looked to the paper “what language was that?” Fletch looked to me as well as Maire, “it’s an old language the people in the mountains use.” I said waving my hand “I am learning it to make Fletch a bit more comfortable while he is here.” Maire scoffed and leaned back in her chair and blew a bubble with her gum and Fletch watched dumbfounded by it, it popped loudly and she looked at me “you say that like you hate him.” I shook my head “I love having him around but who knows how long I will be around and if I am not around he will have to go back to the mountains.” Fletch looked to Maire “what is coming from your mouth?” She told him how to blow a bubble from gum and gave him a piece he had yet to have anything sweet or human food in general so I watched as he put the gum in his mouth. He thrashed his head around “It’s strange my teeth are stuck.” he chewed and as smoothed out he began to try to blow a bubble. The class ended and we lined up Fletch folded up the picture of SIM and walked with me the halls were filled as they always were. Fletch followed me and I walked to my next class when we sat down his hair was no longer covering his scar and the looks he got weren’t the greatest. “Fletch come here,” I said as I sat down he leaned to me and I fixed his hair and looked to him “thank you,” The first three classes went by and along came lunch, the lunchroom was utter horror as usual. After we got our food I sat at the loner table as I always did Fletch sat next to me this time as others passed things were said and thrown at me but this time Fletch blocked me from all of them and after a while he led me outside he didn’t care for eating and neither did I so we walked to the schools yard of trees and benches. Having the area to ourselves Fletch looked to the sky he spoke Norse and I didn’t understand, “I didn’t understand that” Fletch looked at me “Can you tell Maire I want to talk to her?” I felt my body freeze as his hands clung to his chest. “I don’t have her phone number you are welcome to follow your nose.” Fletch stood and began to sniff the air he began to walk off and I got out my paper and began to draw, everything I drew turned into Fletch I went along with it and began to sketch out this man I had come to cling to in my mind. I looked to the finished product and crumbled it and shoved it into my pocket and tore at the skin at my wrist. I stood and went to the bathroom going into a stall I pulled the razor from my bag I slit open my wrist and watched as the blood dripped from my wrist to my fingers and to the ground. Thinking of the dreams that flooded my nights and how I hated the way I was tears formed in my eyes as I thought of how Fletch smelled and how warm his grasp was so close, yet not close enough, and never long enough. I then just became numb as I watched the blood drip down as the tears streamed from my face the dots of blood on the floor and the line of blood that slowly dripped down. The pain of the cuts stinging and calming, After a while, the blood stopped and I cut on my other wrist and watched as the blood dripped down then the bathroom door swung open. “SMALL?!” I grabbed the toilet paper and covered my arms Fletch stood in front of the stall I was in. “I am fine calm down,” I said trying to remain calm. “I smell your blood,” Fletch stepped back and I froze putting my foot over the dots of blood. “Small are you hurt?” I repeated what I had said and he sighed I couldn’t stop the bleeding and Fletch rested his head on the door. “I know you are hurt,” I opened the door and Fletch came in he gently took my arm and looked to me “you did this to yourself.” I looked away as he sighed and looked away I then sat on the counter as he took the bandages from my bag and tended to my cuts. “I care about you,” I looked away Fletch had a way of seeing right through my lies and he lifted my chin to him. “I just feel so alone and lost,” I looked at him and cast away my feelings for him and I stood as I did the crumbed drawing came from my pocket and Fletch grabbed it. “Here,” Fletch said handing it to me as he picked it up, I took it from him and tossed it in the trash can and left the bathroom we walked down the hallway. Fletch looked at me and I turned away heading toward to the yard of the school, “Small I…” I turned to him and he shook his head “nevermind.” I let my heart drop and we walked on, when we made our way under the tree he stood beside me and his hand crept around mine holding it so gently his hand was so much bigger than mine. I didn’t shake my hand from his grasp and let it’s warmth take me over as we laid under a tree. I sat looking at the sky, “What did you and Marie talk about?” Fletch sat up and looked at the sky “you and my love for you.”
