I didn’t notice the soft footsteps slowly approaching the room. A man in a black Adidas hoodie entered through the doorway, face unseen. Aether threateningly confronted him, fists by his side. The man appeared to be his enemy but he didn’t look it. With a face that looked around 25 years old, still pretty young. In Oyx years that’d be around…. I counted silently in my mind and came to an estimate. That’s like 740 years old! Wouldn’t it be boring living for that long? I would not take kindly to it, living a lifetime almost 10 times and never dying.
The mysterious man opened his mouth and spoke in a soft but harsh voice. “Who are you?” I almost, keyword; almost, yelped. He began again, “Why are you here? You’re not allowed to touch that, it is against law!” Aether turned, his back toward the man, and finished quickly untying Chronos’s body. Aether took one last glance and the man and scrammed.
“RUN!” he yelled, nearly tripping over his feet. Selene yanked my hand and followed suit. The man was stunned but soon realized that we had almost made it to the bottom so he took off after us. Selene hastily shut the Tower’s door and continued to dart toward the village we came from. When we made it back, the sky had already began to darken. Aether slumped down against the railing of a small cottage. Selene was clutching her shirt, red hair strewn in all directions. It took awhile for me to notice, but color had steadily reappeared on Chronos’s face. A question had surfaced from the depths of my thoughts.
“How are we gonna get the body to Chronos if we don’t know where the heck he is? ! And how is this even going to work?!” I brought my hands to my head and firmly pulled my bark brown hair. Aether looked as if he’d seen a ghost. Then, anger fell upon his face, his blue eyes scowling. He let go of the body and stood up, finger gripping his thigh.
“So you mean to tell me that you, Callum, have no idea where Chronos is?! What was all that work for, that’s wasted time!” Selene tried her best to restrain him from me and I hung my head low. In a small voice I replied, ”Sorry, We kind of got separated a few hours ago, before I met you. But, how do you him, is he, like, famous?” I tried to change the subject and I guess it kind of worked.
“Yeah, I guess he is famous around these parts,” Selene said. “This is his hometown so we know a lot about him. And he is a powerful god so I doubt there’s anyone who doesn’t know him. Well, then, I guess we’ve got to get moving. Farther this time, but we’ll do that tomorrow, it’s dark out and you need rest. Come on, Callum, I know a place around here we can stay.”
