“Up you get!” I heard Chronos yell into the room beside mine. I rubbed my eyes to get rid of the blurriness and forced myself out of bed. I opened the door and met Chronos’s face.
“Oh, great, at least someone is already up!” Noah flinched as Chronos said this and covered his face in embarrassment. I guess someone woke up on the wrong side of bed today. I widened my eyes and plastered on a sarcastic smile, what a mess. I trailed behind Noah as ascended up the latter, inhaling the smell of Selene’s cooking. She greeted us when she heard the sound of wood creak and the two chairs move. Four plates were laid in front of all the chairs, excluding one closest to the window. Aether needs to hurry up, it’s so tense in here. I picked up my utensils as quietly as I could, trying not to anger Chronos.
“I can’t take it anymore!” he shouted from the sink. “Where is it? I’ve been waiting so long to see it again!” Chronos inhaled the air loudly and headed toward the body we’d retrieved the day before. I hadn’t noticed it before, but the body was really healthy looking now. The power fresh air, I joked silently. “It really is, though. The power of fresh air is correct.” Chronos did this weird thing where he basically morphed. His short sandy blonde hair was replaced by long, jet black lengths. His eyes switched between brown and went to a pale green. His tan-ish skin turned icy white. He grew about two more inches and had scars along his face. The body in the corner disappeared and when he spoke, his voice came out differently, intimidating. His cold expression scared me; this was a whole different persona.
“Eat. You’ll need the energy.” Chronos walked over to the window and stared out like he’d been forgetting something important. I wondered how he got his body and why he’d wait so long to get it back. Also, where the hell did his other one go?!
Callum, wouldn’t you think it weird that your history teacher suddenly left with no trace? And I didn’t need it that soon so I put it off, not on the top of my to-do list. As for this body, I may have gotten my original one taken away, but a powerful god such as myself has his ways, I have a friend who specializes in the field of cloning and he lent me a hand. It might be considered illegal but I knew that people would seek my body so I needed to get out of there. My soul, Callum. As long as I had my soul, they would never truly be able to inherit my power. And as soon as the guards realized that my body contained no soul, they stopped guarding it.
Noah spoke up beside me, giving me the scare of my life. He broke the silence with a conversation that left me confused.
“Hey, you okay? You seem… troubled. I don’t know all the details but I assume you’re going through a lot right now. I mean-” he shifted and faced me. “You have to basically save the world and you didn’t even get to choose this. It was forced but you act normal and indifferent through it all. You know, it’s okay to disagree with things, even if you know it might not change anything. Sometimes it’s just good to let it all out. You don’t have to put on a fake smile for us, we know you’re frustrated. And you’re not alone, you got Selene, and Chronos and… well… me.” Noah’s ears were tinted a bit pink and he suddenly got up. “I should get ready to, you know, do stuff.” He rapidly climbed down the ladder and muttered under his breath. Weird.
Yes, Callum, weird indeed.
