Belle looked around; it was defiantly Manhattan. She did a slow three sixty to take it all in. "Doctor; Doctor Can you hear me?" Belle didn't see or even hear anything around her. She had seen out of the corner of her eye a man running into a building. She ran after him and stopped outside the building; it had looked like an old run down hotel. Nobody could possibly live in here; so why would that man go in here. She didn't care though; she ran into the building and after the man. She could still hear him running but she was slowly losing him. Soon he became out of sight and out of ear. When Belle reached the floor she looked down a narrow hallway; the light just barely on and flickering. "Could this shout creepy already; broken light, abandoned hotel and strange man?" Belle continued to walk down the hallway very slowly trying to take in everything so no one could sneak up on her, but she failed. She heard a creak behind her and jumped to face the silhouette standing in one of the rooms she passed. "It is a very creepy hotel, but it is very rude to call me strange." Belle smiled at the familiar voice and hugged the stranger tightly. "What happened doctor; one minute I was with you and then next I was here?!" She looked up at the doctor and he looked down at her and smiled. He took her hand in his and led her down the hallway at a much faster pace than she had been. "The statues that I warned you about; they bring people back in time, they are as old as the universe but no one really knows where they come from. They are the deadliest; most powerful, most malevolent life form evolution has ever produced. They are very lonely creatures though. Their quantum lock reaction makes it so they can't socialize; that could drive anyone mad." Belle looked at him; quantum lock, she had heard of that before. "Quantum lock doctor; as in time release, but of what doctor?" He looked at her and then over her shoulder as if looking for something, or even someone. "Their sight is quantum locked; they can't see without it. If anyone or anything is looking at them they become a statue; they can't move. But if it's only them that see's the person and the person does not see them, they become their true self. That's how it is with all statues Belle, so if you see one doesn't blink and don't turn your back." Belle nodded; she had never known that something so normal with her own planet had been so dangerous. "Or else we get sent back in time? But why would it do something so harmless like that; why not just kill us?" The doctor looked at her as if the answer were obvious. "What could be worse than having to live your life before your time; and dying before you get through high school?" Belle hadn't thought about it, but dying and living alone in a different time frame can't be a fun way to die. The doctor was still pulling Belle along when he stopped abruptly. Belle looked at him and then to what was in front of him; it was an angel. Not the white wings glowing floating kind, but the statue that had been on top of the building when they were sitting at the coffee shop. She looked at it warily when she seen the doctor looking at it the way he looked at the little boy statue from the fountain. His grip tightened on her hand; she looked back to the statue, but she didn't know what to do. The doctor took hold of both Belles' shoulders; he moved but made sure not to lose eye contact with the statue. "Keep looking at the statue Belle; do not blink, let me look for a way out of here." Belle nodded and felt the doctor let go of her; she kept looking at the statue. "Doctor why did you come up here in the first place?" She waited for him to respond but he didn't; she turned her head to look back for the doctor and then turned it again to look back for the statue. It had gotten a lot closer; it was now only five feet away. She got scared but swallowed back her whimper. "Doctor! It moved; doctor!" He still didn't respond, she was getting very upset. "Doctor I swear on the earth of all things good and evil I will shave your head while you sleep! Doctor!" She was just about to say another thing when she felt arms wrap around her. She stiffened but relaxed when she felt a familiar breath on her neck. "Slowly walk backwards; when I tell you to, you are to run downstairs and out to the street. No turning back and no stopping; just keep running, promise me you'll keep running." She slowly nodded and felt the arms pull her back. She slowly took steps backwards until they stopped at a staircase. "Now!" She felt his arms leave her and she took off like a bullet. She had gotten plenty away from the hotel and felt relaxed now. She turned around with a smile to congratulate the doctor on yet another brilliant idea, but her smile fell; the doctor was nowhere in sight.
