For Christmas .
------------------------------------------
Edd sighs as he looks over at his friend with dough covering his hands. Wiping his forehead with his forearm, he calls out.
"Tom! We had pancakes this morning, do you want-"
"No.....I want-hic-to be alone! I- hic- ugh...."
Tom wipes the drool with his sleeve and walks forward a few inches before face-planting to the floor with a loud thud. Matt looked over to him with a surprised look. Edd quickly strode over to his friend, careful not to touch him with flour covered hands.
"Tom! Are you okay???", he panicked.
When Tom didn't respond, he forego the whole 'not getting flour on his tiny friend' and turned him over and picked him.
"Matt! He's too cold, get a bucket and put warm water in it- also a soft towel! I'm going to put him in his room."
Carrying Tom to his room and laid him on the mattress under the covers. Tucking him in and frantically try to calm down. Matt then came bursting in with what he was asked to get.
"Please dab him with it, make sure it doesn't burn and too wet! I'll get the first aid kit and the thermometer."
Leaving Matt with a sick Tom.
------------------------------------------
This isn't what Edd wanted for the start of the joyful season. Tom never gets sick! Especially after he moved into an apartment; the only reason he's here is to spend time with them. He wanted be with his friends and this is what happened! Tom is sick and can't go home to get the presents that he probably bought. At least he's staying the whole month with them or go home would be a bigger problem otherwise!
Once in the bathroom, the kit was obtained, and he ran back to Tom's room. Matt was talking Tom's ear off- although, he clearly was out of it and can't hear a thing he's saying.
"Tom, buddy, I'm here!"
------------------
By the time Tom next woke up, he finds his friends sleeping in awkward positions near his bed. The curtains drawn shut only lets filtered, dulled light pass through. Groaning, he sits up and rubs his large eyes. Waking up Edd as he does this.
"Tom? Tom! You okay? You had a fever and-"
Tom interrupts by throwing up on a sleeping Matt, who wakes up-only to also throw up. On Edd's shoes. Gross.
"....Okay, we are all taking baths. Right now. Then we'll talk."
"Me first, I'm important!", shouts Matt and he makes a dash for the bathroom.
-------------------------
Tom has been cooped up in his room for weeks, even after he got better. Which was irritating, because they ran sacked the whole house and his room of alcohol. He stretched and walked down stairs to the kitchen. Greeting him was Ringo as the cat jumped onto his shoulder and curled up a round his neck to sleep. Rolling his eyes????? He let the cat stay and opened the fridge. Nothing.
"Sigh....might as well watch the snow-lord knows that there is only garbage on the TV. Blugh...."
Then he had a thought.
'Maybe I can visit the hospital...'
Tom thought he said that in his mind but he was murmuring out load, Edd catching his words-curious. He nudged Matt and made a shushing motion. They quietly push their chairs as they secretly followed Tom. Watching him bundle up in warm clothing before heading out, careful not to bother Ringo to much and made sure the cat was covered up and snug.
-----------------------
Edd is.....sad. A little scared and possibly hurt?
First, he finds out in the hospital that Tom had been babysitting for their old neighbors Kim and Kayata, but something happened and the baby wouldn't wake up. It scared the crxp out of Tom and the girls. He was crying and the girls tried to calm him down but it wasn't working.
Next, he finds out that Tom is starting to go blind. The cancer that Future Tom spoke of is beginning to form.
Then, after this, Tom laughs and laughs and laughs. He smiles an empty, shallow smile and thanks the doctor before leaving.
He watches Tom go to a cemetery with a yellow flower, he sits on a bench. Laying it next to him and takes out a picture. Him and a pineapple fishing.
"Hey dad, guess what? I'm dying! Isn't it great?"
He smiles at the picture briefly before it fell and a tear drops onto it, he wipes with his arm.
"I've always felt like dying after you did! Now I can, after all these years....Slowly....painfully....Ha...I....it's starting to get hard....eating....sleeping....grooming...I just want to....Had to be strong....for mom.....Edd....sigh...he's a good person....I wish I was like him. But I'm not, I'm not anything.....can't tell him that....can't even tell Matt. Not how I feel, too vulnerable. I don't want to have feelings, not strong enough. Whatever, I was hoping that if I was bad, then I could get what I wanted.....feelings are hard, but....it....Don't want but I do.....Gosh, I wish it was easy."
Tom...doesn't trust them? He...he doesn't feel safe....what....w-why doesn't he....what?
"Edd?", whispers Matt as he lays his hand on his shoulder.
He looks over to his friend. They share a frown. Looking back, Tom's gone. The flower and picture is left on the bench.
-----------------
Almost Christmas now, but....
Tom looks at the display behind the window.
Wouldn't it be nice?
He thought quickly, before he felt the urge to drink again. Making like a bee, bustling a way. Passing a shop, before back tracking to enter it. Something in there reminded him of someone, but...surely he wouldn't? He doesn't care....he never cares...so....
What is he doing? He looks at the gift in the bag he bought.
They're not even....here.
He....he's not going to.....
He still cares....
Why?
I must drown....if not in water, then let it be wine.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
That's it. There is not resolve. Sometimes there is no resolve and sometimes it doesn't need resolve. That's all. But that's okay. Life is regret and longing. So they may desire and strive to gain. There is always need, always fight. Life is fight, life is pain.
Death is okay. So is anger. Rage. Betrayal. That is how it is, how it will always be. No need to change what works right? Not like it makes a difference, not when in each life at least one person will make the mistakes of someone else and each cycle, they all learn or it will take a few times to change.
We are all like addicts, doing the same as the other until there is a different result, different answer. May not be now, may now be later, or even ever, but that doesn't stop. It doesn't matter.
That's okay. Don't stress. There's no need. So why do that, when you can laugh and smile? To find interest.....love.....that same cliche reason for everything. Right?
-----------------
In any case, Tom opens presents with Edd and Matt. He got what he was longing. Edd laughs lightly, questioning. Matt merely stares at his reflection. Unsure of who it's from now, Tom tucks it a way. He goes home, there's a note and a missing present.
Thanks,
Idiot.
-Me, duh.
P.s. you look ugly.
A minute smile lingers longer than it should and he tries on the present that he wanted. After which, he writes back and then crashes on the couch. A soft, muffled thud and there he is, Santa. Looking over at the boy in gentle pink, he smiles at his secret helpers work for this particular child. He takes the letter and chuckle quietly at the content before tucking it in his coat.
You too,
Screw you.
-Who else?
P.s. Look who's talking.
-------------------------------------------------
Delivering the letter to his helper-who is still on the naughty list despite all their work, they snub their cigar and and lazily smiles at the letter. Their present from an annoying man, hung loosely a round their neck. Silver glint in the moonlight from the dark hiding them.
Santa's gone and they tuck the letter in with the others. A small chuckle escapes their thin lips as they smile.

The End.
