- I'll get you some more food, when everyone go to sleep, alright? Just promise me, you won't be hunting for rats in the basement anymore. It's gross.
Melinda looked at the dark corner of her room, where barely distinguishable figure of huge plushy bear, what seamed to be, lightly noded in answer.
- Fine - satisfied, Melinda smiled - By the way, this is you.
A girl stood out from her desk and stretсhed a sheeth of paper toward the bear.
Suddenly, a muffled sound of broken ceramics came from the downstairs. Melinda turned her head. A man and a woman were yelling at each other again. She started to breath heavily, as if something was pushing on her chest. A girl felt the sheeth slips from her hand. She turned back and got up on the bed hiding under the blanket and covering her head with a pillow. But she still could hear them shouting. Few more plates have broken.
The next moment she felt a large soft paw gently touching her back.
- Not now, Jake. I'll play with you later.
A man and a woman were yellig and yelling, until, suddenly, the woman screamed. Melinda quicly got out from the bed and rushed downstairs.
Meanwile, in a half-litten hall, Michael and Sarah were confronted by a four feet tall teddy bear, who was standing right at the middle of the room. His large round silver-white eyes with cat-like pupils were stareing at them from two black holes teared in the teddy bear's face. Suddenly two tentacles appeared in the corners of ripped open mouth. Coloured silver-white and red, they stretched behind the shoulders and reached the floor, lifting the body of the creature a foot above. Two more, smaller tentacles has appeared from the same opening, acting, presumably, as hands.
- Jake, no! - Melinda rushed into the room.
- Stay away, Melinda! - Michael shouted, while reaching for the baseball bat.
Meanwhile, Sarah flung a vase at the approaching monster. Effortlessly Jake redirected its flight midair with one of his tentacles. Next moment Michael rushed right in front of the creture swinging his bat for the strike.
- Stop! - Melinda jumped right between them.
- Melinda, go away!
- No! - the girl looked determined.
Confused, Michael was standing there, breathing heavily. Sarah was caushesly standing up from the floor.
Jake bent one of his hans and wrapped it around something sticking out of his stitched belly. Then he strethed the object toward Michael. Even more confused, the man looked at his doughter. Then he slowly put the bat down and carefuly took the object from Jake's hand. Sarah was already standing behind his shoulder as he unrolled a paper sheet and saw the picture: a man, a woman and a girl with her teddy bear. All happy and smiling, sitting at the fire near the tent surrounded by woods. Michael looked at his doughter.
Sarah switched the lights on. In the blink of an eye the creature ripped bears mouth open and in two leaps dissapeared somewhere upstairs leaving behind its hollow plushy skin.
A year has past since. Jake is really good at hiding, but never does he hide from Melinda, who cares of him as she always did. And what about the man and the woman?.. Now they look into every dark corner of the room twice before starting arguing.
