"Ouch." Daemin winced as Donghyu dabbed the wound on his friends shoulder. "Maybe if you stopped fucking moving." Donghyu rolled his eyes, throwing the cloth he was using in the trash can next to him.
Daemin sighed as he put his shirt back on, eyes full of dread. "Are you ready?" He asked, looking up at Donghyu. The latter let out a breath and looked away with apologetic eyes.
"Of course I'm not." He muttered, sitting down next to his friend. Daemin looked down, feeling his eyes start to well with tears. "It's our fault." He choked out, his voice breaking on the last word. He brought his hands to his face and covered it, not wanting to show his emotions.
"It's not like we knew he was going to snap." Donghyu whispered to him, rubbing his back gently. "It's gonna be okay. He's getting help."
Daemin nodded, letting out a final sob before wiping his eyes. "Okay, let's go. I wanna see him." He forced a grin at the younger boy, trying to be stoic for his best friend.
-
"We're here for Taeshin Kim." Donghyu told the secretary in a sweet voice, showing off a polite smile. Daemin stood next to him, staring off into space.
"Ah, yes. Taeshin... one moment sir." The secretary said in a tone that alarmed Daemin, pulling him from his thoughts.
"Is there something wrong?" He frowned at the woman. The secretary opened her mouth to speak, before slowly closing it again, as if she decided against what she was about to say.
"Well, Taeshin has been our most aggressive patient these past several months, and I'm not sure if he's allowed visitors." She said in a gentle voice. Daemin widened his eyes and let out a deep breath.
"Listen, I don't care. See this?" He started, pointing to his bandaged shoulder, "I know how violent he can get. We just want to see him."
The woman nodded, a small frown appearing on her face before it was replaced by a small grin. "Okay, I'll let him know he has visitors."
The woman picked up her phone and dialed a number before bringing it up and speaking. "Patient one hundred forty three has two visitors." She announced in a serious voice before hanging up and grinning once more.
"He's in room sixty. Have fun!" Donghyu nodded, a confused look on his face. Both boys turned and walked down the large hallway filled with rooms and rooms of mentally ill patients. They heard screaming and crying from people of all ages. Donghyu was terrified, gulping back his tears before putting on a brave face.
"Room sixty." Daemin announced, looking at the large metal door in front of him. Both boys looked at each other with worried faces.
Daemin pushed open the door, seeing the room that was divided in two. On one half of the room, stood Daemin and Donghyu. On the other side, stood Taeshin in a white jumpsuit. The room was divided by a thin sheet of metal, sporting small windows here and there.
Donghyu peered through the window and saw Taeshin sitting on his bed, staring at the wall with a bored look on his face.
"Tae?" He asked, furrowing his eyebrows. The air was dense with awkwardness and suspense, making it hard to breath. The room smelt terrible, filled with an odor neither Daemin nor Donghyu could decipher.
Taeshin turned and looked up, seeing Donghyu through the small glass window. His face went from bored and dull to contorted and filled with anger in seconds. He jumped up and quickly ran to the divider, smashing both hands on either side of the window.
"It's you." He growled, his eyes wide and brimmed with dark circles. Donghyu gasped for air, forgetting to breath due to his shock.
"Taeshin." Daemin whispered, feeling his own heart break at the state his old friend was in. Parts of his hair were gone, most likely due to himself pulling on it. His eyes had large circles under them, proving that he had rarely gotten any sleep. He was a lot skinnier than before, meaning that he hadn't been eating properly.
"I hate you." Taeshin spat out, pounding once on the metal with his right hand. Both Daemin and Donghyu flinched, gasping at his outrage.
"I fucking hate you both!" He seethed, his face starting to turn red. "Taeshin I-" Donghyu started, looking at him through the window with scared eyes.
"I don't fucking care! I hate you both! I'll kill you! I swear to fucking god I'll do it!" Taeshin screamed, giggling to himself loudly afterwards.
"EunEun wouldn't mind." He whispered, his voice having a maniacal tone. Daemin shook his head, swallowing back his tears.
"Eunky is d-" "He's not fucking dead!" Taeshin screamed louder than before, his voice booming through the small room.
"H-he's alive! He's right here." Taeshin yelled, pointing at the spot next to him, where nothing was placed.
"Eunky is dead." Donghyu spat out, his voice filled with anger now as well. "Why can't you just fucking accept that?"
Taeshin's face went dull, his eyes devoid of any signs of life. His mouth hung open, forming a small 'o' shape. Daemin turned to Donghyu, his eyes wide with fear.
"My EunEun is ALIVE! YOU FUCKER! I'LL FUCKING KILL YOU!" Taeshin screeched out, smashing his fists against the glass window over and over again.
Daemin screamed, watching the glass break and Taeshin's hands become bloody. The room's lights turned red as a loud siren was blasted throughout the hospital.
"Move!" A guard screamed at Donghyu, running into the room carrying a tazer. "Taeshin, calm down now." He said in a soothing voice, making Taeshin cackle a throaty laugh out.
"No." He giggled, trying to reach his arm out and grab Donghyu once more. The guard sighed and ghosted his hand over the tazer.
"You two, leave." He commanded, turning to Donghyu and Daemin. Donghyu nodded before quickly going to the door, only to look back and see Daemin still staring at Taeshin in the same place he was before.
"They can't leave. Not until I hurt them." Taeshin said in a desperate voice, still reaching out of the broken window. Daemin watched, his mouth agape with tears trailing down his cheeks.
"I need to kill them! EunEun wants me to!" Taeshin screamed, his voice cracking at the nickname. "Leave!" The guard screamed at Daemin, but the boy was still paralyzed in his spot.
"EunEun!" Taeshin sobbed out, almost choking on his tears. His arm went limp as he cried, throwing his head back and letting out loud sobs.
Daemin watched in terror, blocking out the screams from both the guard and Donghyu to move. His mind went blank as he stared at his old friend, who was breaking down right in front of him.
He had broken his best friend.
