James Cameron often said, "Curiosity is the most powerful thing you own." and there's no denying that statement. After all, history does provide plenty of evidence that proves him right. However, he never mentioned what kind of powerful. Is it the "Powerful Good", a resource that has the potential to improve the shape of our lives and bring about revolutions on a scale that mankind has never witnessed before, or the "Powerful Bad", some resource that might turn out to be our greatest doom? Many study groups were conducting tests on this bizarre topic in an attempt to quantify the magnitude of this power, all in the hopes of unlocking the mysteries of the human mind.
I was also one of those ambitious researchers and spent my entire childhood trying to find answers to the project's most difficult questions, but my efforts were fruitless.
A lot has changed since that day, and I mean a lot. My family, friends, courage, willpower, and everything else was taken away from me. I'm no longer the towering, educated hunk I once was. I'm a worthless mess now, spending my entire day sitting on a wheel chair waiting to die, but you know what the worst part is? While most of my memory is a complete blur, I can still readily link all the parts of that horrible incident that devastated my entire existence, as if it has become a part of me. The only thing it taught me was that curiosity is a burden on humanity.
I can still recall what an auspicious day it was; the day that, had things gone a little differently, might have become mankind's legacy. No one could have predicted that their best dreams would become their worst nightmares.
"The venture, which began 20 years ago with the goal of constructing a robust, advanced, and intellectual defence system for the (EMF) a.k.a the European military front, has turned into a massive uprising for humanity's future. We'll be one step closer to the pinnacle of knowledge today, at 008 hours. Stay tuned for more information." —According to a story on BigTV.
While the entire city was engulfed by the event's buzz, an inspirational soul was holding a press conference at the national defence research facility to answer media questions about the upcoming event's details.
(A tall man in his early 30s) [Project Director and former MI6 scientist] Dr. Arthur Gonzalez stated that we are only a few steps away from full bloom. Just a lousy set of minutes and We'll be the first humans to witness the greatest technological achievement ever accomplished in human history. This venture codenamed "Project: Alpha," is on the verge of causing a revolution. It took us 25 years of continuous research to get this far and this is not even the end.
He concluded by praising the entire team for their combined effort in making this goal a reality, stating that we would never have been able to accomplish this level of superiority without their passion and devotion, and that it was, and will always be, an honour to work with them.
** Meanwhile At the testing facility --
Everyone was preoccupied with something. Whether it was pressing buttons, verifying algorithms, or generating reports, it was all part of the job. But when the doors began to slide away, the entire lab, filled with numerous mechanical sounds, fell silent. Entered Dr. Billy Sanders (Chief execution officer) [A skinny man of 6'2" with blonde hair, a small moustache, and wearing a white lab coat over a grey suit]. He was constantly looking at his pocket watch like a man waiting at the subway to board the 12 o'clock ride back home.
"Is everything ready ?" --He inquired in a solemn tone.
"Affirmative, Sir." replied, Dr. Cooper Escobar (head of the maintenance team) stating that all of the scheduled parameter checks have already been completed with a conclusive green.
Billy Still had a questioning look on his face, as if he was a little sceptical of the story. "All right, all right, The meeting was adjourned. You may now leave. Except for you, Dr. Cooper." He said loudly and clearly, "I have something to talk to you about."
"What is it, Sir ?" --Dr. Cooper hesitating a little bit.
"Uh........
Yes, I want the Component lab empty." Dr. Sanders, in a forceful tone, says, "Schedule an emergency parameter check within 5 minutes."
"What Nooowww... But, Sir."--Dr. cooper resisting anxiously.
"Is there a problem ?"--Dr. sanders glaring daggers at him.
"N..Nn....No... No, Sir. I'll schedule the environment right away."--Dr. Cooper visibly shaken.
*Outside the component lab
"Who told you to sleep on Duty ?" --Dr. Cooper to the Watchmen in an alarming tone.
the guard who was savouring his sleep got startled by a loud voice, lost his balance and fell on the floor. "S..S...Sorry, Sir. Please excuse my ignorance, Sir. This will never happen again." —The watchmen stuttered in a low, apologetic tone.
"I don't think we should waste time with him. we have more important issues at hand" --Dr. Sanders to Dr. Cooper.
"You're right. So where do you wanna start ?" --Dr. Cooper while turning the lights on.
"Quickly! Check The primary power supply first of all" --Dr. Sanders.
"Primary Power Supply -All OK!" --replied Dr. Cooper.
"Check The Secondary power supply" --Dr. Sanders.
"Secondary Power supply at maximum Power. Generators at optimum capacity" --Dr. Cooper.
"What About the Data Cabinets ?" --asked Dr. Sanders.
"All Cabinets active & at standby, Sir" --a junior scientist replied.
"What's the status of the Cameras ?" --asked Dr. Sanders.
"All cameras online with frequency 1 clear feed, Sir" --Dr. Cooper replied.
"What about the ......"-- Dr. Sanders.
"Dr. Sanders..." --a junior Scientist
"What happened ?" --Dr. Sanders.
"Sir, Dr. Gonzalez has just arrived at the testing lab with a huge press gathering and they are waiting for you." --the junior scientist.
"Already!!!! OK..., let's go" --said Dr. Sanders.
** Meanwhile Dr. Arthur to the press
"Gentlemen, what you are looking at the right now is called "XD field" the rumored technology that was being developed by a team of technologists and physicists from Japan, for the past 7 years, the one of a kind space where today's historic event will take place. Meet Dr. Benjamin & Dr. Larry, Our two highly qualified scientists who are the developers of this phenomenal platform and will also be our pilots of the life changing technology. These two have worked their wits out just to reach this moment." --said Dr. Arthur.
"Hey Look !! Dr. Sanders is here." --a reporter from the press.
"Dr. sanders what about the..."
"Dr. Sanders is it true...."
"Dr. Sanders what if...."
"okayy!... okayyy! calm down, I understand all of you have questions, you guys are probably looking for assuring answers. I can understand it very well, your concern is absolutely justified - This ain't no routine scientific experiment, its a technological breakthrough, A window to the future, But at this point, I'll just say you guys need not worry, this project is equipped with flagship technologies from around the globe and is in the care of world's best brains. Dr. Gonzalez himself is directing the experiment. What Could possibly go wrong ? You all should just chuck away the negativities, be a little more patient and wish these guys best of luck. I assure you all, after the show ends, you all will be struck in awe with no questions left." --Dr. Sanders to the press.
** Right after the press conference
"We'll meet at the control room now, the world is waiting for you. Good luck gentlemen " --Dr. Gonzalez & sanders while shaking hands with Benjamin & Larry.
**After a few minutes --
"Guys, Can you hear us ? Signal Ok if you can" --Dr. Gonzalez.
"OK.." --replied Dr. Benjamin
"What about you Larry ?" --asked Dr. Sanders
"Larry ? Larry? ....Quickly, turn the emergency pilot video feed on...." --asked Dr. Gonzalez.
"No Need, No need .. I can hear you." --replied Dr. Larry.
"whhew.... Okayy...You Guys ready ?" --asked Dr. Sanders in a relaxing tone.
"Yes, Sir." --replied Both Larry & Benjamin.
