The two landed just above the ground. Lucas held Raven’s hand as not to lose her in the overwhelming bustle of his world. Despite her slightly reddened cheeks, Raven held the king’s hand. The girl’s eyes looked around at this wondrous place. She assumed they were in prehistoric time. Although there were no dinosaurs, nature resembled what she had seen in books and paintings.
“This looks like what I’ve seen in movies!” she exclaimed. “You made all of this yourself?”
“The world itself, I did not. The separate time periods, I did,” he explained.
“It’s beautiful!”
“I am glad you like it,” he smiled.
Suddenly, a loud growl was heard. Startled, Raven moved closer to Lucas. He chuckled at her frightened state, knowing what the source of the growl was. The ground shook as a large beast approached. Nature itself trembled.
“L-Lucas, shouldn’t we be running?” Raven shook in his arms.
“Do not worry,” he chuckled. His gray eyes looked into Raven’s beautiful brown eyes. “As long as I am here, no harm will come to you. You have my word.”
“Lucas…” Raven felt her cheeks start to burn, and lowered her head inadvertently burying it in Lucas’s chest. He was so straightforward, and he spoiled her. How could she not blush at such a statement?
Soon the creature who had caused the trembling emerged from the trees. It was a T-Rex! Raven was scared but felt safe with Lucas. She closed her eyes and continued to keep her head in his chest. She was so scared. But he promised that nothing would happen to her, but…would Lucas be hurt?
“You have nothing to fear Raven, look,” Lucas assured.
The human girl slowly looked up at Lucas, then turned to see a dinosaur only a few inches away. Lucas stretched his hand out and the T-Rex accepted his touch. It was like a dog accepting his master’s warm touch. He then started to lightly scratch under the dinosaur’s snout and a slight purring could be heard.
Raven was amazed. She watched as the most vicious animal in history was being tamed by the Shadow King. There were many things she didn’t understand, but this one took the cake. She felt Lucas’s hand take hers. He directed it to the dinosaur. Her hand felt the Rex’s hard skin. It felt like that of a reptile. Weird because according to science, dinosaurs evolved from birds. Guess since Lucas has most likely seen a dinosaur, things were different.
“What do you think?” Lucas asked.
“He’s cute, but then again he’s tamed, so…”
A light snicker escaped his lips. This girl who was so frightened a moment ago is now smiling like a mere child. Her smile was far more beautiful in person. A lifetime of memories could not compare.
“Would you like to ride it?” Lucas asked.
“I’m sorry?” Raven asked, unsure of his question.
“Would you like to ride this dinosaur?”
“I can do that? Wait, I’m an alternate world, of course, I can…Did I say that out loud?”
Lucas burst into laughter, while Raven blushed with embarrassment. He assured her that there was no need to be flushed. If he was there, no harm would come to her.
The animal lowered its head to allow Raven and Lucas to climb on. The human girl was unsure whether to step on or not. Would she harm the creature, or would she fall off?
“Let me help you,” Lucas offered.
He climbed aboard the dinosaur, then stretched out his arm to Raven. She reached up and grabbed his hand, only to be pulled up by Lucas. With a shift of his arm, he clasped Raven hand in his and held her with the other. She felt his arm wrap around her waist. It was to keep her steady on the dinosaur, but her cheeks reddened once more.
Averting her eyes, lowering her head, doing everything she could to hide her blushing face from the King of Shadows. What’s worse was that during the ride, Lucas held her close to his body. She knew it was dangerous for her to be released from his grasp, but it would be even worse if her back was to him. The heat of his breath would be on her neck, making her blush more. So…this was the best situation!
