I woke from a nightmare

Calling out “Mommy!”

And normally,

That’d be the last thing

You’d hear from me

Why call the creator

Of a nightmare

To help escape from one

Hands shook me awake

And too late

I realized

That I wasn’t being hit

I fought back more screams

Scary dreams

And misleading hands

From dream land

To no man’s land

Which way is escape?
