When I finally spot the door to the meeting room, I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding in. I give the secret knock that will allow is into the room. The door is impatiently opened by Mr. Grumpy pants. I mean Mr. Santiego. He is, of course, grumpy as usual.
"You're late." He says, clearly irritated at my tardiness.
"Sorry." I half-heartedly apologized and then I moved past him to enter and greet the people that don't mind me being one of their future leaders. Those, of course, are only a few of them.
One of them is grinning at me when I turn their way. It's Samuel. He's, of course, our resident computer informer. The blonde green eyed boy lives in the First. After witnessing some gruesome deaths done by the governance, he joined Unknown. He had been aware of the unknown activities for a long time before he actually decided to join. I don't know why he never told on them, but I guess he has some sort of rebellion streak about him. Something he likes to tell people who find out about his story.
"Hey, girl. You're late." He says. "And full of dirt," He continues with a frown this time. "I want to hear all about it." He ends excited this time.
I don't have time to reply to him, because a stern voice cuts us short.
"You're late and disruptive." The Secondhand says. That's what I call Anton in my head. He along with Mr. Santiego likes to pretend that we're in the military instead of being in a rebel group. I know this is serious stuff, but I don't know why they have to be so serious all the time.
"Right Let's get down to it." Mr. Santiego says after giving me another sharp look. He starts off by telling us how the phase one plan is going well for now. And then ask some people to talk about their special missions. Someone tells us about what happened to a cleaning lady from Section Three, while she was in the Governor's house. After another person tells their daily story of horror, Uncle Sam finally got the stage to tell us the thing that's making him so on edge and excited at the same time.
"Good day everyone." My Uncle starts off. He, of course, has earned the respect of everyone here in this room. Therefore he gets everyone's undivided attention every time. "Guys I have important and great news." He says with a little light in his eyes. "We have the Alpha King on board people." He says as a grin spreads across his face.
At first, everyone looked confused. Then shocked, because everyone knows or thought that the whole werewolf royal family had been wiped out. They along with my family. Accept my whole family didn't die. And apparently neither did the royal family.
"What do you mean you have the Alpha king on board." Mr. Santiego questions, shocked. "Where did you even find him. And how can he be alive?" He asks the same questions that I think must be everyone else's mind right now. Including my own.
That's when my uncle gives Samuel a smug smile. "Thanks to our brilliant searcher, Samuel, he made contact with us a few weeks ago." My uncle says and everyone looks at Samuel who has the same smug smile on his face as my uncle. He just gives everyone a shrug and we all turn our attention back to Uncle Sam again. "This is a sensitive matter people, so I can't really tell you everything that I know. His life will be in serious danger if he gets caught. So I urge and ask everyone here not to ask me..." He takes a pause to look at me. "Or Samuel, for any information about him. Please, guys." He begs. "This has just gotten more real than ever. With him by our side, the chances for the governance to go back to its former glory has just become more real." He ends off and then steps back, letting Mr. Santiego take over again.
The alpha king was the most powerful person on our planet. The royal family made sure all of us lived in harmony. The humans along with other supernatural beings. And we did. Until that horrifying day when the royal family was supposedly all killed off. The humans took over. The Governor said that's how it was supposed to be. Like before humans found out about supernatural beings that lived among them. We were just hidden. Until we were discovered. Before a war could start a peace treaty was made between all of us. And the werewolves was chosen to protect that treaty. I guess not everyone agreed on that.
After another fifteen minutes of updating us all on some issues and plans, we are all dismissed. Uncle Sam and I find our way to each other and then Samuel joins us. He finished school three years ago and now lives on his own in an apartment that the governance gave to him in honor of his intelligence. So he doesn't really have to worry about someone who might question his coming and going.
"So the Alpha King yeah. I don't think I've ever seen a light in Mr. Santiego's eyes until tonight." I say. Not really sure why I feel like the spotlight is gone now. I've never really wanted to be a leader in this. I just wanted a part in it. I wanted to change this system that is making more of some people than others. I wanted the supernatural beings to live normal lives as the humans did. And the governance took that privilege away from us. Yes, I'm a werewolf. I'm not part of the royal werewolves, but my father was the leader of the ruling committee. My father got the job of making sure the werewolves abided by the laws.
"Yeah, I was shocked when I got the message the first time. At first, I thought it was someone playing a trick on me. But he finally convinced me when he told me stuff that no one else, but the royal family knew about. I, of course, had to find out if it was true. And your Uncle here went and did some digging." Samuel says.
"Is that why you disappeared on me for weeks?" I ask my Uncle. He nods his head and gave me a smile.
"It turns out the Luna of the previous Alpha King had escaped with her son." Samuel chips in.
"That's about all information we can give you. As I said, he will be killed if the governance finds out about him." My uncle states seriously.
I wanted to protest. Because who can I tell about something like this. But then I look at my uncle who is looking at me knowingly. He knows what I'm about to say.
"Let's go." Uncle Sam says when he sees that he had won the argument that never even happened. He says goodbye to Samuel and then starts making his way to the door. Leaving me and Samuel alone for a few seconds.
Samuel doesn't even wait for uncle Sam to completely leave the room before he turns to me. He grabs me around the hips and pulls me towards him. Then he brings his lips to mine. For a few seconds, I let my guard down. I relax into his kiss. It all ends when I hear uncle Sam calling my name. Samuel gives me another quick kiss on the lips before telling me to call him tomorrow.
I don't know exactly what's between us, but I do know that I like it when he kisses me like that. When we first met he was the only who made me feel like I actually meant something to this whole cause. And we spend a lot of time chatting and calling each other. We grew close and one day he unexpectedly kissed me. At first, I was hesitant about the whole thing. But then I felt myself relax for the first time in years and I started kissing him back. And that was that.
I make my way to my Uncle who is waiting for me at our tunnel. He, of course, pretend he doesn't notice what is happening between Samuel and I but I know he doesn't like it very much. Samuel is a human. And since I'm a werewolf. Things might get messy.
"I hope you know what you're doing." He scowls at me. But I give him a big smile in return.
"I hope so too Uncle," I say. He just gives me a sideways look and then shakes his head.
"I have to meet up with someone. So I can't walk you back." He apologizes
I just pull a face at him and then nod. I make my way to Alice's office. Neither she or her husband was present tonight. I just want to make sure they are fine.
I knock on her office door and I get a come in from a strange voice. I slowly open the door. Inside, I'm afraid that the worst happened. What if they were arrested. What if someone discovered their secret. What if they're about to be hanged. I finally push the door unnecessarily hard just to get it over with. The person on the other side looks up at me strangely. "Can I help with something." She asks with a frown. She's busy typing on a memo pad.
"I'm looking for Alice," I say hesitantly. Scared of what her next words might be.
"My Mother and Father went away for a little while." She says with a hint of annoyance.
"What?" I ask shocked. I didn't know Alice and her husband had a child. A grown-up child at that.
"What do you mean what? Are you retarded?" The brunette asks. The irritation can clearly be seen in her brown eyes. She is clearly fed up with me already. I haven't even been here for a minute.
"No. I just didn't know that Alice had a child." I say getting angry at her attitude.
"Well, now you know. Is there something else you need to know?" She replies rudely.
I have to tell myself to calm down internally. Alice's daughter, that I didn't know about, is a bitch.
"No, I'm just going to go," I say and then quickly leave the office and close the door behind me. For a moment I want to slam it. Just to annoy the bitch a little more. But I rethink and decide not to be the immature kid that Mr. Santiego makes me out to be.
So I make my way to the exit of the bar. I need this day to be over already. But of course, I don't get my way.
I'm halfway to the door when I slam into someone. For the second time tonight I feel myself starting to fall. I close my eyes on my way to the ground. Waiting for that hard impact. Only this time my body doesn't make it that far. Someone's hands grab a hold of me. The person also brings me back onto my feet.
"Sorry..uh." A male voice says. I can feel his breath fanning over my face. Making me realize how near the person has to be to me. I open my eyes. The moment I do that, I get drown into the bluest depths of eyes I've ever seen. Something in me stops. Making the moment slow down into millions of seconds. I want to stay in it. But I don't because he quickly steps away and at the same time purposely hides his face from me. And I realize I didn't see his face. I might be able to identify those deep blue eyes anywhere and forever. But I don't remember a thing about the rest of his features.
I don't know why, but for some reason, I feel an overwhelming sense of loss when he disappears into the crowd.
