Down below, Seiji and Miyako continue their stealthy cruise.
“Why do they have so many checkpoints in close vicinity?” Seiji inquired, as he and Miyako crouched next to each other.
“Panic, probably. Better safe than sorry or something like that.” Miyako could only guess, as that was the most likely answer. “C’mon, we’re almost past the last one.”
As the two were close to reaching their next checkpoint, the air force helicopter is quickly aiming itself to crash towards the two of them. Miyako grabs Seiji by the collar and pulls him over to safety behind a large container, as the helicopter crashes on one of the nearby checkpoints, causing a massive eruption of flames to engulf the area.
“Uh, what the hell was that?!” Seiji’s eyes lit up with the flames as he peaked from his cover. He could see a horde of soldiers moving towards the rubble. Miyako noticed it, too, as she pushed Seiji forward.
“This is our chance! Go!” She ordered, and the two forged ahead.
Just as they moved, Kenzo found it opportunistic to leap from his heightened position and land with his feet on the ground.
Which, of course, rumbled the ground with his strength. It caught the attention of the soldiers, who turned away from the rubble to meet their intruder.
“Dammit!” Seiji gasped, a deer caught in headlights. Miyako jerked her head to look at Kenzo, as all three of them were now in plain view.
“Why did you do that?” Miyako pressed towards Kenzo.
“I didn’t know how else to get down.” Shrug from Kenzo.
“Well, you just exposed us to EVERYONE! Good going, genius!”
“Hey, you better watch your tone before you start mouthing off on me!”
“Or you’ll do what?!”
Kenzo and Miyako drew closer to each other, the male with his fist clenched.
“Uh.” Seiji backed up. “Guys, no time to dabble. We’ve got company.”
The soldiers. Firearms aimed right at the delinquents. Miyako and Kenzo halted their dispute for a moment to acknowledge the impending doom.
“Well?!” Kenzo shouted, stepping in front of Seiji and taking up the direct line of fire. “Are you assholes just going to stand there?”
Silence from the soldiers.
“I’ll handle it.” Kenzo clicks his teeth.
And handle it, he did. Seiji didn’t even get a chance to jump in and showcase his abilities, as Kenzo did all the work. He didn’t just “handle” them, he slaughtered them, in a blind rage. Something devastating unleashed from within. He very much leaned on the martial art of Shitsuyōna, and it amplified him. Just like Seiji’s grandfather, Unleashed must have had some prior transgressions to pick with the humans.
“Go.” He spoke to the other two without looking at them, as he held the limp body of one of the soldiers. “The calvary will be arriving soon.”
“No can do, Unleashed. Not leaving you alone.” Seiji whistled, walking up to the guy.
“Unleashed?” Kenzo scoffed.
“That’s my name for ya’. You’ve obviously got some pent up anger issues, the way you unnecessarily ripped that one guy’s arm off AFTER he was knocked out… so, Unleashed.”
Unleashed took pause. A double take on Seiji and Miyako, shaking his head.
“Alright, let’s get out of here.” Miyako suggested.
As if on cue, they could faintly hear the sounds of vehicles headed in their general direction. With that noted, Miyako dashed off, with Seiji and Kenzo not too far behind.
“That was reckless.” Miyako commented as the trio now walked through the woods, the female walking in between the two males.
“You shouldn’t have gotten involved.” Kenzo scoffed. Seiji simply shrugged his shoulders.
“We weren’t TRYING to get involved. We were passing by, and the ruckus you caused indirectly got us in the middle of whatever suicide mission you were on.” She retorted, her mouth unloading like a machine gun.
“Suicide mission? I had that handled.”
“No kidding,” Seiji decided now would be a good time to but into the conversation. “Where’d you learn to… do that?”
“I don’t know. It’s something inside of me I don’t quite understand. Adrenaline spikes… my body becomes tougher. I punch harder and hurt less.”
“The fighting, I meant.”
“You don’t have a choice in this world. With those animals running around, you either learn to defend yourself or accept your inevitable demise.”
“You’ll end up dead anyway.” Miyako grumbled at a monotone volume, pacing ahead of the group.
“So… you have no problems killing the Humans?” Seiji inquired as he stepped next to Unleashed, his oculars focused on his new possible ally.
“After all they’ve done, not really.” The answer came stern and directly; no hesitation or consideration of another answer in his indignation.
Seiji didn’t respond. He pondered on it. In truth, he was indifferent to the means. While he’d never actually killed a Human himself, he wouldn’t argue with anyone if they had it in their right mind to do so. While his grandfather believed in an eye for an eye, his father believed in taking the higher ground. Seiji rarely, probably never, got involved in their arguments. He could see where both sides came from; it all came down to experiences. Whether people wanted to admit it or not, their experiences shaped their notions, ideals, and beliefs.
“What’s your name?” Kenzo’s question snapped Seiji from his thoughts.
“Seiji Higuchi.”
“Higuchi…?” Kenzo’s ears perked up. “As in Okura and Akuma Higuchi?”
“That’s me.” Both of his fathers were quite famous. Okura trained martial artist and competed in world wide tournaments. Akuma was a general in the war, known for his brutal and public executions of captured Humans.
“Huh.” Kenzo took a brief pause. “Kenzo Tomatsu. But… I guess you can stick to Unleashed.”
“Oh, I intend to.” Seiji flashed a smirk, a gesture of which Kenzo returned.
