When she closes the door I look around to notice the architecture of the building. It's one of the homes of the older generations. It's a one to two hour walk from the village... That is if you know you're shortcuts like me.If you're heading in blind then it's more likely to be a good three hours IF you're lucky.
The old village was abandon for unknown reasons. Some believe that resources became to scarce, others think the nightmares just picked them off one by one. What ever the case may be it doesn't matter now. Our worry lies within surviving.
I gaze into the candle Peridot had left for me. It's dancing to the slight breeze that seeps in through the window. My whole life I had tried so hard to push back feelings of happiness and love, only to allow myself those feelings when in public to seem normal. I never got along with the other children in the village my age, they had all avoided me until I had decided to just be mute and cover my face. At that point people just went on.
Most of the People often go about their lives in ease,no worries, no dreams, nothing. Though, I have always dreamt of a life beyond the barriers that separated us from the forest.
No one cared about life outside the village, maybe every now and then some little kid may mention a life outside but would quickly be "put in the right state of mind" By their parents. I often dreamt of a life without nightmares and changelings. A life without all the worries of the outside world.
I used to tell stories to Peridot about the stars and ocean, and how the stars can create pictures in the sky. People of the village thought I was crazy and often tried to tell me otherwise, but Peridot listened. She would sit there and listen to me go on and on about stars and oceans and never once tried to convince me to stop. I miss that.
I miss being able to hear laugh and hanging out with her, But maybe just maybe now that we've found each other....we might be able to do that again. After All it's been eight years.
Finally I fall into slumber. Letting sleep cradle me in it's arms.
