Spell Me

chapter 11

chapter 11

Jan 13, 2019

Normally someone would be nervous to open their window for a strange mystical beast, even if it was relatively small like the one Shilo was currently staring at. Yet there she was, swingings her window wide open so it could freely hop onto her reading nook.

“Since you’re here I’m sure Lux isn’t far behind.” Sure enough, as Shilo peeked out her window a familiar face was smiling up at her. His bright, animated eyes were enough to inform her he had something interesting in store for her. His huge, toothy smile confirmed that suspicion.

“Hey, Shi,” he excitedly whispered. “Come down.” He motioned for her to meet him, as if telling her wasn’t enough. She rolled her eyes, sitting at her nook so she could talk in a more comfortable position. The mini dragon began climbing down the wall of her house, making its way back to its owner.

“What now? I really shouldn’t get into any more trouble. I’m on thin ice with my dad as it is.”

“Oh, stop it. I’m not gonna get you in trouble. Just come down, I’m tired of whispering.”

After giving it some thought, Shilo decided it was best to just go down and see what he wanted. It was the only sure way to get rid of him otherwise he’d just hang around and bother her. She didn’t mind Lux, he was a pretty close friend. They’ve had their fair share of adventures together, most of them ending in both of them getting in trouble. Trouble seemed to follow Lux more than Shilo, which was quite the accomplishment. Her father had once said he regretted hiring Lux at the shop once he realized Shilo became a fast friend, but he accepted the fact their paths would have crossed one way or the other no matter what.

Rather than leaving through the front door, alerting her father and thus sparking another argument, Shilo started the descent from her bedroom window. Judging by how skillfully she managed to get to the ground Shilo was more than used to escaping through her bedroom window, even if it was the upper level of her house…

She eventually hopped onto the ground, walking towards Lux with a suspicious look in her eyes. And he saw it

“Hey now don’t look at me like that. I got some interesting news for you!”

“Is that so? Start talking then, friend.”

He smiled, that mischievous smile she knew so well spreading across his face. Oh, dear, what exactly did he have up his sleeve?

“I heard The Council will be here for a meeting tomorrow.”

“...Lux, that’s not news. I’m gonna crawl back in the hole I came out of.” Shilo turned and started heading towards her house, but Lux caught up and stood in front of her.

“Yes, everyone knows about the meeting already. But does anyone know that they’re arriving tonight? And where they’re staying?”

Shilo arched her brow, not really sure where he was going with this. She took the bait, deciding to give him a few more minutes of her time.

“No. No one is supposed to know that, Lux.”

“I do!”

“Wait… What? How?”

“Oh, I have my ways. Now how about you and I go spy on them for a bit?”

At this point Shilo didn’t really care how he got this information. She was ready for a bit of adventure…

“Lead the way.”

As the pair began walking away from the house Caleb stepped in front of them, stopping them in their tracks. Lux frowned, crossing his arms as he looked up at the werewolf.

“Aw man… I took a different path and everything and yet here you are.”

“Tracking you is easy. Besides, no matter which path you take, you’ll be passing my home and your scent is far too easy to pick up on. Now… What are you two planning?”
