"One eerie, evening in October ten years ago, a young girl, roughly around age seven, went out into the woods searching for something. It was getting dark and so she had to find somewhere to stay and keep warm. "
Ben paused.
He took a deep breath, then continued,
"She soon took refuge in an old cabin in the woods. Hours before, she had told her brother about how her friend said that there was a cabin in the woods. Her brother told her that it wouldn't be a good idea to go searching for that cabin, for there were stories about a mysterious, old, abandoned cabin in the woods, and how who ever searched for the cabin, were never seen or heard from again."
He paused again and took another deep breath. The old cabin started to creak and sway. He continued.
"But the girl did not listen to her brother, and went out that night. She slowly opened the cabin's door and went inside. The cabin floorboards creaked as she gingerly crossed the floor. Then, a giant gust of wind blew, and the door slammed shut! She whirled around, but no one was there! She heard wild, maniacal laughter. She frantically looked around, high and low, but no one was there! She started to walk toward an old chest. She heard scratching on the walls and quick footsteps, as if someone were running."
"She ignored this as best as she could, and and opened the wooden chest. She rummaged through it and found an old necklace with a bird on it and a book with strange, ancient-looking symbols on it. She put the necklace on, and opened the strange-looking book. Inside, she saw writing, it was mostly in black and sometimes red ink."
"She flipped through the pages of the book, and on each page there was some kind of note scribbled on there in frantic writing—usually a warning of some kind. They all varied from "TURN BACK!" or "GET OUT!" or, most common, "STOP!". She continued to flip the pages. Page after page there were more warnings. As she continued to flip through the book, the laughter turned into screaming and crying. She heard shouts of "NO!" being repeated, and, "Save yourself!". She quickly closed the book and dropped it."
Ben stopped.
A chill ran down my spine. I shivered. Ben looked around. So did I. But no one was there, nobody came. He sighed an unsure sigh and continued.
"She looked around and shouted, "H-hello? Is anyone there? Are you alright?" Only shouts and screams answered this. She was becoming afraid and unsure now. She went upstairs to where the noises were coming from. As she walked quietly and carefully down the spooky, dimly lit hallway, she came to a door. The door was a crack open. As she continued to approach the door, the screams and shouts lessened. Instead, she heard someone whispering to her "Come..." over and over. She finally made it to the door. She opened it and..."
Suddenly, the front door slammed shut.
