SLAP!
Hong's cheek was red from her mother. She had stumbled upon her by accident and tried to hide. Her mother had walked into Hong and found her face flat in front of her path. She smiled at her child making Hong flinch. Was it okay for the princess to touch the Queen? Hong reached for her mother's dress, but received a blow across her face after she stood up.
Mary-Ann raced towards the princess and quickly stood between them, "Your majesty, the Royal Highness is calling for you."
She curtsied low and kept her face down. It didn't stop the Queen of Roses from kicking her in the stomach however. Mary-Ann fell, crushing Hong in the process as she stood in front of her. Princess Hong felt pain from being crushed by a full-grown adult and tried not to think about it. She bumped her head again on the flooring, and the Queen went about her business after showing a frightening face to her own child.
The Queen of Roses scoffed, "Don't touch me."
She turned to leave; her ladies-in-waiting had already witnessed something like this before and they were still shocked at how the queen's temper ran short whenever Mary-Ann and Princess Hong were around. The queen waved her hand and they all turned to leave. It was forbidden for anyone near the queen to rush in and help the two whenever they came across her...
"Mary-Ann!"
"My princess..." Mary-Ann quickly got up and checked her injuries, "Are you alright?"
"I'm fine..."
Tears started rolling down her face as she tried to lie. It obviously was not alright. The patrolling guard who stood nearby ran towards the two and decided to report the queen's behavior to their king. He offered to walk them to the royal doctor's office, but Mary-Ann did not want to trouble him from his duties. Hong clutched onto Mary-Ann's dress and apologized to her for her own mother's behavior.
"I'm...sorry that...mother kicked you!"
Mary-Ann picked up the child and carried her in her arms. It wasn't anyone's fault and she could not blame Her Majesty or the princess.
"Please! Don't...hate me!" Hong hugged her servant.
Mary-Ann, "...My princess," she seemed troubled, "I could never hate you. Don't cry. You must grow stronger for me..."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
After the incident, the King of Roses requested an audience with his wife, her ladies-in-waiting, and Mary-Ann. It had been a long while since anyone had seen him since he left to battle the Thorn Kingdom. Mary-Ann was a bit scratched up from the incident and there was evidence of abuse on their child, Princess Hong, who was called in to show her father her injuries. The Queen simply flapped her fan that she was holding and didn't give a second look to her daughter as the king pointed out that a mother should not be harming her own child, no less the Queen herself.
Hearing this, the Queen snapped her fan shut and excused herself. The King denied her leave, but she didn't hear of it and accused him of cheating on her. Hong was outside, waiting for Mary-Ann to come out before her mother slammed the doors open to exit the royal hall. She gave a dark, menacing look at Hong, slapped her and proceeded away.
"Hong!" The King rushed over, "My dear child, are you alright?"
Mary-Ann ran to Hong's side and took out a cloth that she carried. Hong didn't bother to cry because she knew her cruel mother would probably laugh at her if she did.
"This poor, stupid child!" She remembered her mother screaming, "Even if you were to ever die, I would not cry for you!"
Mary-Ann kept silent as she pressed the cloth on Hong's face. Hong didn't dare to move or say anything. She only kept silent and watched her mother let out a disgusted tch as she saw Mary-Ann and my father bending down next to Hong.
After the incident, more servants in the palace had heard what had happened between the King and Queen and shook their heads in displeasure at the Queen's name. Shiro, who wasn't aware what was going on, didn't quite understand and walked away from the halls...she felt the atmosphere wasn't quite right and didn't want to be there. As soon as she stepped away from the halls, she saw her sister all bandaged around her head.
"Sister!" Shiro smiled, "Why are you all beat up again?"
Hong didn't say anything, but smiled, "Why are you always catching me at my worst then?"
Shiro felt a bit depressed at seeing Hong smile. She knew that whenever Hong smiled, it was to hide something against her. Shiro persistently asked her in the past why she was always injured, but Hong couldn't respond except smile and say, "It was an accident..."
Hong's red hair blew with the wind, making Shiro proud that even though her sister was injured, she was still quite a beauty. It was just a shame that not a lot of people had seen her and she concluded that maybe somebody had beat her up because of her beauty. Shiro grabbed her sister's hand and rubbed it.
"You know, one day someone will love you as much as I do and hopefully they'll understand how kind and good a person you are."
Hong flinched at her words and gave a sad smile. It was the first time Shiro had seen such a face that she was quite surprised. The only facial expressions Hong had given her was a fake smile and her poker face. She hugged Hong and thought to herself that maybe someone was trying to take her away.
"SHIRO!"
Both of them jumped, not expecting anyone to see them, Shiro turned to see her mother.
"Oh mother!" She let go of Hong and ran towards the Queen.
As soon as she let go of Hong, the Queen passed Shiro and used her fan that she was holding as a weapon and swung at Hong. Hong knew that if she dodged it, her mother would throw an even bigger fit and stood still, forgetting that her sister was watching. The fan slit a part of Hong's face, causing more injury as her cheek started to bleed.
"M-mother?!"
"DON'T YOU DARE MAKE MY DAUGHTER IMPURE YOU DEMON!"
