Children Of Pain

9.1 - Countdown

9.1 - Countdown

Jan 19, 2019

"You look like shit."
"Thanks Dad..." I rolled my eyes.

My father laughed softly and sat on his desk, still entertained.

"How are the guys?" He asked.
"Nervous but working hard."
"Well, their concert is in two days." He smiled. "Did something happen? You remind me of a zombie right now."

"If you knew..."
"We have plenty of time. Sit down."

"Well, Lucy had been trying to get her 'surprise' right for hours, but she always fell or slipped."

"Lucy? As in Reaper? The one with an inhuman balance?"

"Let me explain, dad..."

"Sorry."

"I can't do it!" Lucy hit her head with the floor.

"You are the only one who can, so get up and work on it." Roxane smiled, clearly entertained.

The younger growled and jumped to standing position. She looked really tired and frustrated, also messy as hell. If she normally is untidy and mindless of her aspect, that was ten times worse.

Reaper jumped up and grabbed the horizontal metal pole that hung lowly above the stage. She pulled herself and jumped on top of it, hissing at the movement.

"Are you okay?!"
"Yeah, it's just the usual."

Soon, Lucy's figure disappeared between the metal maze that held the stage lights. We could hear the faint sounds of her combat boots hitting the poles while she walked around it.

"I'm ready!" She shouted.
"Go!"

Hearing Troy's scream, Lucy jumped down. She grabbed the robe that hung from the ceiling and swung herself towards the audience, passing above the seats.

When Reaper wanted to, she could be really elegant and graceful. Well, most of the times.

"Ooof!" She slipped when she jumped on stage, crashing on the floor.
"You almost had it! Try again!"
"No! Neither my ass or my face can take more hits!" She complained.

"What did you do to my dear shrimp?" Jack's voice appeared from behind us.

When I turned around, I saw the tall male entering the stage from backstage. For first time, his hair was untied and hanging loose.

"YOUR HAIR IS FUCKING CURLY?!" Skull shouted.
"Uh... Yeah." Jack sighed. "Anyways, I finished the demo tape."

"Wait up. He gave you a demo?" My father interrupted.
"Oh yeah! Here..."

I took out of my backpack a small dark blue USB with a white skull on it.

"Just by the looks I can tell who it is from." Father chuckled. "Come here, let's listen to this."

"They though they broke us,
They destroyed our dreams,
But we changed our caged fates."

Jack's voice was soft, not as raspy as it was when he talked.

"We're Dark Lands' children,
Who never saw the real light,
We only know the one the Red Goddess gave us to pray.

But when blood started spilling,
People started disappearing in the Damned path."

"This shit is good."
"Shhht! Dad!"

"Fear appearing,
Evil showing,
We weren't safe anymore.

We were freed from our dark cages of illusion,
Saw the world how it really was,
Immersed ourselves in the Dark Lands,
Also called Human Realm,
A dangerous place to live in.

Welcome to the narcissist mindset,
Where everyone wants the lights on them,
We don't search money,
Either fame,
We're not here for the glory,
We just want to make ourselves a name."

Suddenly, the music became slower. The rhythm was similar to a love song's one, but it was modified to be kinda creepy.

"I wanted to tell you how much I loved you,
But you disappeared before looking behind you..."

It was beautiful, as if the singer had put all his might in that phrase.
Or that's what I thought...

"Ha! Just kidding.

Well, fuck fake people and their stupid feelings,
Your words mean nothing to me,
We're in the Dark Lands, Dark Lands,
Where nobody a future wants,
Everyone cares about now,
Making it obvious that we're in the Dark Lands.

Nobody sees the light,
Nobody looks--"

"Hey! I wanted to hear the rest." I whined.
"You will in the concert."
"Wait, what?"
"Tell Umbra, the song is approved and I look forward hearing it in the concert."

After that, he pushed me out of his office and closed the door.

"Ugh..."

Guess who had their chapter erased by tapas? ME!
I had almost everything done and well, I had to rewrite everything, even the song. Luckily, the inspiration of Jack in real life gave me one of his demo-tape teaser songs to help me out.

I will force--- *cough* I mean. Offer him to write all the songs for this story.
BUT YOU CAN'T COPY ANY OF THEM, IF I CATCH YOU DOING IT I WILL HAVE TO HUNT YOU DOWN.
Thanks <3
