Abigail sat and watched her friends bowl, sipping her drink and laughing along to their antics. She longed for Isabel to join them, just so Abigail could see her face holding the same amusement as the others.
"My arm is tired." Delilah moaned, placing herself onto the spare chair near Abigail.
"Too bad Isabel couldn't come, she's missing out on all the fun." Abigail frowned, it wasn't fair on her. She really wanted to come as well. Delilah gave a hum in agreement but Abigail knew she didn't care if Isabel came or not.
"What, you're happy that Isabel didn't come?" Abigail tensed, for some odd reason Delilah and Isabel never really got along unlike the rest of their friends. And sometimes Abigail was torn in between going out with Isabel or Delilah, but at the end she always chose Isabel.
"That's not what I said." Delilah knew her words were trespassing foreign territory. "It's just, you care so much about her yet she doesn't even look at you once." Abigail's frown deepened.
"We're best friends? I don't expect anything in return." Abigail was never the one to release her anger, she was always the patient type; keeping things to herself.
"When are you going to realize that Isabel doesn't love you the way you love her. She's like a sweet bitch to you-" Abigail didn't want to hear the rest. She got up and left the bowling alley with all her might. Her fists were tight and her breathing was ragged. She loved Delilah but tonight Delilah had crossed the limit. How dare she call Isabel a bitch? Isabel was everything but a bitch. She was sweet, loving, adorable...the list could go on.
Abigail tightened the denim jacket around her body, grabbing her cell she texted Isabel.
Hey, we missed you! Hope you had fun with your family xo.
Pressing send, her eyes loitered on the chat screen for a few seconds as if waiting for Isabel to reply straight away. Almost about to put her phone away, the screen dinged and Abigail hastily opened the message.
Awn! I missed you all too, was thinking about you guys.
Abigail's heart performed mini flips. She knew it was directed to all of them but she only thought about herself. Isabel was thinking about Abigail and Abigail couldn't have been more happier. She was ready to text back with affection and love but another message popped up from Isabel.
Family dinner was only for an hour. I spent the rest of my time with Nate (;
The second message hurt Abigail a little. Nate was Isabel's crush, she always talked about him and being the good friend that Abigail was, she listened thoughtfully and gave advice. Nevertheless she was happy for Isabel, finally spending time with her crush- even though she could have joined us for bowling. Not having the willpower to reply to that message, Abigail tucked her phone away and continued walking through the dimly lit sky.
Nate was very lucky in Abigail's eyes, he had a gorgeous brunette crushing after him. If Abigail was in his position, she would have- no. Abigail shook her head. She shouldn't be thinking such thoughts about her best friend. They're like sisters. Longing after her is wrong, she repeated over and over walking to her porch.
Abigail opened the house door and was instantly met with the warm scent of freshly baked goods.
"Back so soon? Is Tiffany with you as well?" Tiffany was Abigail's older sister. The two got along like any other siblings; they fought, laughed, enjoyed life.
"Yeah mom. Tiffany had to stop by the store, she needed to get something."
"Hmm, alright then." Tiffany, despite being the older sibling, wasn't allowed to leave the house by herself. She was not trusted, not because she was some sort of a drunk-drug addict. But because she had lied to her parents numerous times in order to meet her boyfriend and had even planned to run away. Nothing scandalous about having a boyfriend but her parents despised the guy, though he had a very kind heart.
Abigail fell backwards into her bed, her mind replaying Delilah's words. Is that what Tyler thought too? She sighed, releasing all the built up air and giving her mind some relaxation. She would do anything for Isabel, but would Isabel do the same? Of course she would. Why was Abigail thinking this.
Her phone started ringing and Abigail answered immediately in hopes that it would be none other than Isabel.
"Hey" It was instead Delilah. Abigail kept quiet, not knowing what to say.
"I'm so sorry about what I said earlier. Isabel isn't a bitch, I am." She chuckled and Abigail could not help but interrupt.
"You're not a bitch." Abigail's soft voice boomed through the phone.
"Abigail you're like a sister to me. I just don't like seeing you in pain. Ty and I know how much you adore Isabel-"
"But I don't wanna." Abigail croaked out.
"Believe me I really don't want to. But I just can't help it. I tell myself that it's never going to happen and for a split second I forget about her. But as soon as I enter school and see her there...smiling. My heart wanders back into her hands." Delilah could hear the hesitation in her voice, she sounded weak and tired. Delilah felt so bad for lashing out on her. It wasn't Abigail's fault.
I know sweetie, I know." Delilah didn't know what else to say. She didn't want to overstep her boundaries again, after all, Abigail was very fragile.
"Will I get over her?"Abigail mumbled, her tears now staining her pillow and bed sheet.
"One day, Abigail."
"I honestly love you Delilah."
"I love you too Abigail. Now get some rest."
There was a moment of silence on the phone and Delilah seemingly hung up, knowing Abigail needed some time alone. Isabel was a big part of her life but Delilah and Tyler were her go-to when she had any problems. She didn't ever express any pain to her crush. To Isabel, Abigail lived a happy-stress free life.
