Abigail sat on the bleachers, her throat sore and her eyes puffy from all the crying. Isabel thought she was sick so she made her sit and watch for today's cheer practice. Abigail was awfully quiet today, causing worried eyes to rise and ask her what was wrong. But Abigail being Abigail changed the topic onto themselves. That's just how she was. She loved listening to people's problems rather than saying some of her own.
Isabel walked up, her hair clung to her face from the heat and sweat yet she still looked like a model from a runway, Abigail gulped at the sight.
"Hey what's wrong?" She asked with a worried gaze and Abigail's heart started feeling happy.
"Nothing, just a little sick." She lied, hoping Isabel would leave the conversation alone.
"I can tell, your voice sounds incredibly sexy today." Isabel smirked whilst Abigail fidgeted with the hem of her skirt. She decided to test the waters and attempt to flirt.
"So it doesn't sound sexy in general but only when I'm sick?" Abigail rolled her eyes and turned the other way, the melodious laughter from Isabel causing another leap in her heart. Isabel wrapped her arms around Abigail's waist from the back, the flimsy material of their cheer outfits leaving little space for body heat to spread.
"Of course it sounds sexy in general, I was teasing baby." She whispered in her ear, the hairs on Abigail's body standing up. Teasing...what she always did.
"Hey Abigail you alright?" Nate's voice sounded through and Isabel immediately turned around, removing her arms from Abigail. Abigail grimaced at the loss of her touch.
"Yeah I'm fine, thanks for asking." Nate was a good guy, he wasn't a bully or anything. He was just Abigail's crushes crush, which made things complicated for her.
"So are we still doing the presentation at my place?" Nate asked and Abigail could see Isabel's face flushing. Isabel turned to Abigail in hesitation.
"Go, I'll find Tyler and go home with him." She forced a smile which was believable for Isabel as she gave her a quick hug and then linked arms with Nate, walking away.
Minutes after Nate and Isabel had gone and were no longer in sight, Abigail stretched her sore muscles. Being lazy was hard work.
"Damn that body!" Abigail retracted instantly but upon recognizing the voice she turned to face Avery with a small grin. Nudging him on the arm, he faked hurt as he sat. "Is cheer practice over? I wanted to watch you dance in that outfit." Avery was the school's biggest flirt. His lines were cheesy and pathetic. However Abigail found humor in his words despite some sounding pretty perverted.
"I wasn't feeling well so I sat out. You didn't miss anything." Avery smirked, his deep dimples in display making any girl fall in love, too bad Abigail's heart only belonged to Isabel.
"I saw from a distance you were feeling quite down. What's up?" Avery asked, all seriousness in his voice and for a minute there Abigail got scared.
"Nothing." She murmured. Still not convinced, Avery pushed her to answer. Abigail raised her eyebrows in discomfort and Avery decided to drop it.
"Alright princess, how about I take you out on a fancy date tonight to the local diner." Avery wiggled his eyebrows in suggestion as Abigail could not help but burst into a fit of laughter.
"Oh yes, the local diner is very fancy indeed."
"I'll take that as a yes. It'll be date." He winked getting up and leaving Abigail behind with a smile.

Seeing that it was a casual date, Abigail decided a plain white top and some denim shorts would do the job. It was spring so the night air held warmth to it.
She got out of her house and waited nearby the end of the street. In that moment Avery came through, his face holding a boyish grin.
"Shall we?" He stretched his arm waiting for Abigail to link it and the pair began making their way to the diner.

"And I'd like a hamburger with a smoothie, thanks." Avery mouthed a wow in mock.
"You sure eat a lot."
"Stop." Abigail whined, it wasn't her fault she felt hungry after every 2 minutes.
"It's cute." He let out, his hands making their way to Abigail's. Abigail decided not to remove it. They were friends after all, there was no harm in a simple hand touching. As Avery began eating, Abigail could not help but wonder what Isabel was doing at this moment. How she wished instead of Avery, Isabel sat in front with her hand on top of hers.
"So do you have anyone you're seeing yet?" Abigail asked, breaking the silence.
Avery played with his fork in thought. "No one that I'm seeing but there is this one person on my mind." He spoke almost shyly, Abigail could not help but widen her eyes. The Avery Oneal was shy?! Who would have thought.
"Who's this special someone?" Abigail asked, raising her brows.
"When the time is right, I'll tell you." Abigail pouted but decided not to dwell on it further. If he wasn't comfortable telling her yet that was fine by her.
"So, how about you?"
"Exactly the same." Abigail thought about Isabel but her mind immediately got off from her, as silly as it sounded she was scared that Avery could read her thoughts. She chuckled to herself and Avery grew more suspicious.
The diner door made a sound, indicating that someone had come in, she turned to see and there stood Nate and Isabel. Her mouth instantly felt dry.
Isabel's eyes made their way to Abigail and Avery, she scrunched her face at the unusual pairing. Striding forward hand in hand, the two stopped in front of their booth. Isabel's gaze flickered to Avery's hand on top of Abigail's.
"Out on a date?" She asked and Abigail was almost at loss of words.
"As a matter of fact, yes." Avery replied cockily. Abigail's eyes met Isabel's, she could see her scanning her body, causing a shiver to run through.
Abigail just couldn't let this opportunity pass. "Would you like to join us?" She asked, her eyes full of hope.
"Sure." Nate replied, seating himself next to Avery, meaning the space next to Abigail was empty for Isabel.
