Management Hell

Ch 2: The Office pt 7

Ch 2: The Office pt 7

Jan 26, 2019

Andy works through a stack of paychecks and appliance repair requests for his clients and smacks his head against the desk a few more times. About an hour later, his computer chimes at him. Looking at the monitor, he sees a message from Morgan accompanied by a profile picture that would never have flown on Earth.

“Hey there, Andy!! I’m free in a half hour, wanna meet up for some fun… Case work discussion? Hehe, I suppose that doesn’t work as well over text but oh well. I’ll come get you in thirty! ;-*”

“Wow. That was painful to read.” Andy squints and purses his lips at the text and tries his best not to gag on its content.

“What was?” Greg’s voice comes from his desk with an air of not caring enough to stand up.

“This.” Andy copies the text and pastes it into a message to Greg. A few seconds after the ping, a hysterical laughter echoes through their corner of the room.

“Holy shit, that is hilariously bad. What was she thinking with that?” At this point Greg finally stands to look at Andy.

“Maybe she thought by making it intentionally bad it’d make her more endearing?” Andy shrugs with a look of absolute befuddlement.

“Either she’s a complete airhead or she’s on a whole level of seduction neither of us could ever comprehend.” Andy scratches his head at the concept. “She is a succubus after all. By the way, she naturally gives off an aphrodisiac aura from her skin. So if she’s not completely covered, remind her about succubus rules to save yourself from embarrassment and temptation.”

“Thanks Greg. I’ll keep it in mind.” Andy takes a long breath. “This is gonna suck.”

“If you’re not careful, then you’ll be succed. You couldn’t hear it but I said suck with two c’s.” Greg chuckles and sits back down.

“You’re an idiot.”

“Yes, I am. Thank you.” One of his arms peeks back over the wall for a thumbs up. Andy sighs and returns to his work, now distracted by the looming arrival of Morgan. Minutes tick by  as the thoughts of her invade his mind. He begins to worry about how much he was thinking of her, even. The panic spreads through him as he reminisces over the few times he’d spoken to her.

Finally, she arrives with a wicked grin. “I know you’ve been thinking about me.”

“W-what?!” Andy’s eyes bulge with fear and shame as she starts to laugh uncontrollably.

“Don’t worry. It’s an effect of my kind. Once we’re on your minds, it just kind of spreads unless you either see us or focus on something else for a long time. Oh, and of course we can sense when you’re thinking about us.”

“Huh. That’s disturbing.” Andy was blunt with how creepy he found that concept. “And before either of you say anything, I doubt the sensitivity training would change my opinion on that.”

“Actually, it would have.” Morgan widens her eyes and nods matter-of-factly.

Andy clicks his tongue. “Ehhh…” His voice is high pitched to show his disbelief.

Greg chimes in. “No, she’s right. It would have. The sensitivity training is basically a brainwashing session that makes humans be comfortable with most everything demons do and look like.”

Andy’s face morphs into one of horror. “Yo! What?! That’s kinda fucked up…”

Morgan simply shrugs. “Think about how much of a problem we’d have with people’s phobias though. Anybody scared of bugs would shit their pants at the sight of Greg.” Andy looks forward to contemplate her words. “I just hate looking at him because he’s ugly.” She smirks playfully.

“Aww, thanks!” Even without seeing him, Andy could tell Greg was smiling and taking the joke well.

“OK fine. I don’t like it but I get it.” Andy tries to keep his eyes on Morgan’s face as he turns to address her. “Can we just get this meeting over with?”

She giggles and leans over the cubicle wall. “Want to get the good stuff already?” Andy sighs very audibly. “Well then come on big boy! Let’s go have some fun…”

Andy stands and looks over at Greg. “If I go missing, you know who to question.” He gives Andy two thumbs up.
