That afternoon, both Isabel and Avery tried to talk to Abigail. But Abigail was in no mood; normally her heart would melt knowing that Isabel Dean wanted to see her, instead of it being the other way round, but today she didn't care about Isabel's attention or Avery's, for that matter. Abigail sat in her last class of the day, feeling irritated that she would encounter Isabel and Avery after the lesson. She had cheer practice; so their was no avoiding Isabel and seeing that it was warm outside, the boys normally practiced after school for their big games.
Her mood was still foul after what Avery had said. If Avery thought of Abigail like that, surely the rest of the school did too; Abigail was a sucker for Isabel and everyone knew it.
The bell rang and Abigail got out of her seat. "Take out your homework, I'll be standing near the door and collecting it." Ms. Morstan informed the class. Abigail shoved her homework back into her bag, she was this desperate to keep away from Isabel and Avery. She walked to the door and told the teacher she had not done it. Ms. Morstan, herself, was surprised and was about to deny but Abigail practically begged for it.
Abigail sat in quiet with two other classmates seated far away from her. The detention was an hour long, meaning she would miss an hour of practice. She jotted down random notes that had no use to her and prayed that time would go slower. Sitting in the isolated quietness of her biology classroom, her mind started overthinking.
It was time she forgot about Isabel and moved on; Isabel had a boyfriend, having a crush on someone for so long was unhealthy, Abigail was only making it worse for herself.
"Abigail you can go." Ms. Morstan dismissed and Abigail stared at her in confusion.
"But I have thirty more minutes."
"It's your first time, you may go." Abigail wanted to stay but seeing as it was best, Abigail got up and left the classroom. She walked painfully slow towards the locker room to change into her cheer uniform.
Abigail got onto the field and told the Coach why she had come late. She had missed forty minutes of cheer practice, which was not enough.
Isabel waved to her, motioning for her to join but Abigail got into another group. She had to admit, turning her back on Isabel felt like torture. She sighed and got to warming up, hoping Isabel wouldn't try and talk to her.
Abigail stared in the far distance and saw Avery swinging his arms at her, any normal day she would have laughed at his foolishness, but instead she turned her back on him too, instead she focused on her cheer routine.
Abigail loved summer, it brought happiness and made the days more joyful but she despised that her body was always coated in sweat after a five minute work-out. Abigail excused herself and went to grab her water bottle, she bent down and grabbed her bag, opening it and retrieving her bottle. She felt a slender hand on her backside and straightened up immediately. Turning around, Isabel was giving her the warmest smile.
"Excuse me." Abigail mumbled, walking around her to get back to her group. Isabel ignored her, grasping her arm and dragging her to the back of the bleachers, where they were in no one's sight. Abigail squirmed, wanting to let go but Isabel's hold only tightened even more.
"I need to go." Abigail spoke in a monotone voice, bringing shivers to Isabel. Isabel had always heard the more cheerful tone from Abigail, she never once heard her speak without any emotions. Isabel pushed her against the metal pole, Abigail releasing a soft grunt.
"Abigail why are you so upset? You know what he said wasn't true. I made a mistake thinking he was perfect for you, clearly I was-"
"But it was true." Abigail interrupted, her lips pursed and her arms folded in front of her chest.
"No it wasn't, what the fuck."
"It was true, Isabel. I've always followed you around like a lost puppy, doing everything you say, not saying no. Waking up in the middle of the night just to listen to your problems, to give you advice you probably never used. I'm sick of being used by you. I get it, we all need someone to release stress on but..." Abigail continued, not stopping once in her sentence. Her built up rage was slowly releasing. "I can't always be your punching bag." Abigail spoke the last sentence slowly, her emotions finally vivid.
Isabel didn't know where all this attitude was coming from, this was definitely a first. Isabel didn't know what to say, for once in her life she was speechless.
Abigail rushed past her without another word, leaving Isabel still in shock. Did Isabel really use her? She realized that Abigail never really expressed her worries or problems to her, it was always Isabel crying out her emotions to her. But they were friends after all, best friends to clarify so why was Abigail making such a big deal out of it?
Isabel got back to practice, which had ended, grabbing her belongings Isabel went away, the side of her eye capturing Abigail's head. She could see her talking to Avery and she seemed less angry there. Isabel felt a strange sensation in her heart,as if it was being dropped. Abigail seemed perfectly happy next to Avery but not her?
"I'm sorry about what I said earlier on." Avery confessed, removing his balance from one foot to the next.
"It's alright, I guess it was true." Abigail chuckled and Avery smiled sadly.
"I want to ask you something." Abigail raised her brow in question. She smiled softly, urging for him to continue.
Taking hold of Abigail's delicate hand, he sandwiched it between his manly ones, his eyes were filled with hope and fear.
"Will you do the honor of becoming my girlfriend?" He asked, bringing her hand closer and placing a chaste kiss upon it.
