Kids Aren't Heroes

Feb 04, 2019

The day went by slowly and he groaned internally to himself as lunch was barely rolling around. Due to the small school and almost 1,000+ kids they had 2 separate lunches. Maroon had the 1st lunch with just Peter and Oliver. While the girls had the second lunch. They met up by the anime club and they started to talk about whatever not caring they already had their lunches. Maroon was eating a cupcake his mom made him for his birthday which made him smile a little.

As him and his friends walked around the campus without a care and losing track of time, the bell rang and the three boys said their goodbyes and parted different ways to get to their classes. As soon as Maroon entered his math class for 4th period a few kids wished him a happy birthday. He smiled and only replied with a thanks. He sat in his usual seat and stared off into the distance until a certain someone walked in. A boy of 13 with short raven hair sat 3 seats in front of him. Damien, thought Maroon to himself dreamily. His face turned a light shade of pink. The older boy turned around to face him and Maroon snapped back into reality. “Happy birthday.” Damien told him and turned back around. Maroon got all giddy and laughed to himself to calm down. He just couldn’t. His crush just told him happy birthday could this day get any better he thought to himself. As class started to get going he tuned out his surroundings and just left his mind drift. “Harris!” The teacher yelled for what must have been the tenth time at this point. Finally the small boy snapped to attention and looked at the teacher with a confused face.

“Mr.Harris could you please tell us what we were talking about.” The teacher said to him. The boy turned a slightly pink showing his embarrassment. “I wasn’t paying attention, and you obviously knew that. So why don’t you just tell me.” He heard kids whisper quiet burns or respect or that one or two idiot. The small boy had a smug look on his face. The teacher just grunted and returned to the lesson. The class ended and as he was packing up Damien walked up to him. “Hey, could you not be so mean to the teacher. I get that your like 9 and crap but that doesn’t give you the right to be a piece of shit.” Damien said a lot more harsher than Maroon would’ve liked. He put on his backpack and just muttered a sorry before walking away.
