Patrick awoke to birds chirping and a empty space where Grace was sleeping next to him. He scanned the room and saw Emily wasn't here either, quickly getting out of bed, slipping on the worn shoes he had before he left the room and the inn. He made his way to the market place, knowing that's where Grace would have went, seeing as most people went there in the early morning. He scanned the crowd, seeing adults, elders, children playing or close by their older siblings or parents side. He heard Emily's familiar caw and followed it, hoping he could find Grace, he didn't know what he could do without her. He weaved his way through the morning crowd and saw Grace chatting with Lou. He got an idea and decided to sneak up on Grace. Quietly he sneaked up behind her, before wrapping her in a bear hug.

"Patrick!"She squeaked, jumping. Patrick laughed, whipping a fake tear away from his eye.

"Sorry, I couldn't miss the opportunity Gracie."He said, letting her go. Grace quickly turned around and shoved him,

"Jerk!You gave me a heart attack."She said pouting. Lou smiled at the relationship these two had, wishing her boyfriend, Manny was nicer to the two.

"So, why did you move?"She asked, catching both of them off guard.

"Uh, we sort of had a fallout with our families."Patrick half-lied, it was sort of true. Lou nodded,

"Makes sense, I'd move to if that happened to me."Lou said.

"So what was with that guy?"Patrick asked her, wanting to know what his problem was. Lou sighed, pinching her nose.

"He's like that with any guy who walks up to me...then he turns around and talks to another girl, flirting right in front of me..."Lou explained, tears welling up she had to blink them away so they wouldn't she her cry. Grace felt anger boiling up inside of her, she scanned Patrick's eyes seeing that he was the same.

"Hypocrite, he shouldn't do that..."Grace snarled, her hands forming tight fists. Lou nodded, hearing angry footsteps she knew belonged to Manny. She felt a hand latch onto her shoulder and rip her backwards, making her lose her footing. Manny stared at Patrick, growling.

"I said you should leave her alone, didn't I?"He snarled out, his grip getting tighter as the seconds passes, Lou knew this was drawing blood. Grace's eyes narrowed at the grip Manny had on Lou's shoulder. Patrick saw out the corner of his eyes and shoved Manny back, grabbing onto Lou and pulling her towards him. Ignoring Manny, he started down Lou and smiled in a loving older brother kind of way, gently pulling back the collar of her shirt, he saw the marks that Manny's fingernails left, blood pouring from them and running down her arm and back. Taking a piece of his shirt in his hands, pulling it until it ripped.

"Yo-"Lou started but Patrick cut her off,

"I'm doing this."Was all he said as he got to the task of wrapping her wound. He stepped past Lou so he was standing over Manny, glaring down at him as Grace wrapped an arm around Lou and Emily perched on her head, ready to peck anyone to death if they to close to either of the girls, like a guard protecting their lord. Patrick shook his head, staring Manny down his gold eyes boring into Manny's muddy brown ones.

"You have a girlfriend.I'm only going to say this once:If you want to be a playboy, don't get a girlfriend."He snarled, not even bothering to look at him as he stepped over him, badly wanting to kick mud in his face, but he wasn't going to snoop to Manny's level. He turned to the girls,

"You three coming?"He asks, taking a few steps forward before shoving his hands in his pockets, leaving his thumbs out. Grace and Lou quickly followed, falling in step with Patrick. Lou looked up at the clock that sat in the center of the market place, seeing what time it was she turned to the pair and Emily, petting her before speaking,

"I need to go home, see you guys tomorrow?"She asked with a smile.

"Yeah, see you tomorrow."Patrick confirmed. With one last smile Lou turned on her heel and walked home, hoping she wasn't going to be late. Grace looked at Patrick, who was staring up at the clouds.

"We're going to have trouble here now, he's a guard.Or at least I think he is..."She spoke up, all Patrick did was nod, not wanting to speak knowing he would speak before thinking, he hated when he did that it made him seem like he was a fool. Grace interlocked their hands, swaying them back and forth, trying to get Patrick's mind off of what he was thinking about.

"So, we need jobs, or something that will get us Crowns....trading or questing maybe?"He suggested, pressing his lips into a thin line. Grace thought for a moment,

"You could help some farmers and I could organize the library?"She suggested, thinking that wouldn't be to out of the ordinary or draw to much attention to them. Patrick shrugged again, not really caring, he was to busy looking around for guards, seeing if any of them would walk over to the teens, asking questions. Grace saw what he was doing, and gently placed a hand on his arm, like a mother would in comforting their child. Patrick's eyes looked into her grey ones, they weren't gold anymore they were like the color of a sapphire. This confused Grace, she's only seen Patrick's black and golden eyes and occasionally green eyes, nothing like this.

"What?What color are they?"Patrick asked, knowing something was off.

"They're like sapphire...I've never seen this before...."She whispered, Patrick quickly looked down, playing with his fingers.

"They've never done that...so why now?"Patrick asked aloud, turning to Grace, his eyes still sapphire, his eyes held a pleading look to them, he was scared and so was she.
