Kita's eyes grew bigger and he gasped for breath, now in full panic mode. This god/man wanted to move in with him?! “This doesn't make any sense!” He stuttered. “I'm a no one. Why? Why? I don't understand!” His words had taken on a certain tone that Kita refused to think of as wailing. Definitely not anything like a banshee. He would never.
Fate winced. “Calm down. I'll explain... some of it once we reach your place.”
Kita's lower lip trembled and he worked hard not to let tears of frustration pour down his face. He could do this. They would go back to his new penthouse and he would explain in great detail that this just wouldn't work out. He would trot out all the reasons, and then the god of fate would nod and agree that he should just live at his own place. Kita would make a horrible roommate.
He took a deep breath and let it out slowly. He called on all those years of meditation he did when he was younger. Granted, it had been a few hundred years since the last time he'd needed it, but it still had the ability to give him the calm he required to deal with this.
“Okay. We'll go back to my place, but, only to talk like rational beings on a higher spiritual plane.” Kita held out a hand, one finger pointed upwards to make his point. He was proud that it barely trembled at all.
The god nodded and rolled his eyes. Kita thought that sort of signified that Fate wasn't actually a rational being on a higher spiritual plane, but he ignored it and began walking his way out of the back alleyway.
Fate cleared his throat when Kita was almost to the exit. “Fox, you may have forgotten something.”
“What?” Kita blinked up at the god. He had wrapped himself in calm and nothing could phase him for the duration.
The god stalked over to the fox and reached a hand over. He traced one of the fox's ears, his finger gentle and slow. The contact jolted through Kita's calm and heat swirled around inside him, telegraphed from the simple delicate touch all the way to the fox's toes.
His knees went liquid and Fate caught him before he could fall. He pulled Kita close, as the fox looked up at him with stunned surprise. “You forgot your enchantment, little fox.” Fate whispered in that same ear. His warm breath tickled the sensitive ear and drove a whimper out from Kita's lips.
Fate placed a hand on top of Kita's head. The fox was doused in a cool wave of magic. He focused on the feeling, using it to help him gain back some control. A few meditative breaths later, Kita was able to pull away and stand on his own.
It had been an eternity since someone had touched his real ears. Kita turned pink with embarrassment. So much for being a rational being on a higher plane. He rubbed a hand over his face and peered up at the god. Fate simply stood still as he tried to look nonthreatening.
Kita took a moment to look down at himself, and he raised an eyebrow at what he saw. The god's idea of an enchantment seemed slightly different than the fox's. He wasn't sure that even he could get away with wearing this without people staring.
